   מַעֲשֵׂיma/a/SEworksאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godוַעֲצוֹתָיוva/a/tso/TAYVand his designsוּמַחְשְׁבוֹתָיוu/mach/she/vo/TAYVand his purposesלֹאlonotיֻפָרוּyu/fa/RUshall be frustratedוְלֹאve/LOand notיִהְיוּyih/YUshall comeלְאָיִן׃le/a/YINto naught

   The works, and the designs, and the purposes of God cannot be frustrated, neither can they come to naught.

   כִּיkiforאֵלelGodלֹאlonotיֵלֵךְye/LEKHwalksבׇּאֳרָחוֹתbo/o/ra/CHOTin pathsעֲקַלְקַלּוֹתa/kal/kal/LOTcrookedוְלֹאve/LOand notיָסוּרya/SURturns asideיָמִיןya/MINrightוּשְׂמֹאלu/se/MOLand leftוְלֹאve/LOand notיִשְׁתַּנֶּהyish/tan/NEchangesמֵאֲשֶׁרme/a/SHERfrom whatדִּבֵּרdib/BERhe spokeעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeאֹרְחֹתָיוor/cho/TAYVhis pathsיְשָׁרִיםye/sha/RIMstraightוְדַרְכּוֹve/dar/KOand his wayמַעְגַּלma/GALone roundעוֹלָם׃o/LAMeternal

   For God doth not walk in crooked paths, neither doth he turn to the right hand nor to the left, neither doth he vary from that which he hath said, therefore his paths are straight, and his course is one eternal round.

   Remember, remember that it is not the work of God that is frustrated, but the work of men;

   For although a man may have many revelations, and have power to do many mighty works, yet if he boasts in his own strength, and sets at naught the counsels of God, and follows after the dictates of his own will and carnal desires, he must fall and incur the vengeance of a just God upon him.

   הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהׇפְקְדוּhof/ke/DUwere entrustedבְּיָדְךָbe/ya/de/KHAinto your handהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseאַךְakhbutמַה־קָשׁוֹתma-ka/SHOThow strictהָיוּha/YUwereמִצְוֹתֶיךָmits/vo/te/KHAyour commandmentsוּזְכֹרu/ze/KHORand rememberגַּםgamalsoאֶת־הַהַבְטָחוֹתet-ha/hav/ta/CHOTthe promisesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנִתְּנוּnit/te/NUwere madeלְךָle/KHAto youאִםimifלֹאlonotתַעֲבֹרta/a/VORyou transgressעֲלֵיהֶן׃a/le/HENagainst them

   Behold, you have been entrusted with these things, but how strict were your commandments; and remember also the promises which were made to you, if you did not transgress them.

   וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdכַּמָּהkam/MAhow manyפְעָמִיםfe/a/MIMtimesעָבַרְתָּa/VAR/tayou transgressedעַלalagainstהַמִּצְוֹתham/mits/VOTthe commandmentsוְעַלve/ALand againstתּוֹרוֹתto/ROTlawsאֵלelof Godוְהָלַכְתָּve/ha/lakh/TAand you walkedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterפִּתּוּיֵיpit/tu/YEpersuasionsאֲנָשִׁים׃a/na/SHIMof men

   And behold, how oft you have transgressed the commandments and the laws of God, and have gone on in the persuasions of men.

   כִּיkiforהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdלֹאlonotהָיָהha/YAwasלְךָle/KHAunto youלִירֹאli/ROto fearאָדָםa/DAMmanיוֹתֵרyo/TERmoreמֵאֱלֹהִיםme/e/lo/HIMthan Godגַּם־כִּיgam-kialthoughיָפֵרוּya/fe/RUset at naughtאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenאֶת־עֲצוֹתet-a/TSOTthe counselsאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godוְיִבְזוּve/yiv/ZUand despiseדְבָרָיו׃de/va/RAYVhis words

   For, behold, you should not have feared man more than God. Although men set at naught the counsels of God, and despise his words—

   אֲבָלa/VALbutאַתָּהat/TAyouהָיָהha/YAit wasלְךָle/KHAfor youלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beנֶאֱמָןne/e/MANfaithfulוְהוּאve/HUand heנָטָהna/TAwould have extendedזְרוֹעוֹze/ro/Ohis armוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand would have beenלְךָle/KHAto youלְמִשְׁעָןle/mish/ANa supportמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEagainstכׇּל־חִצֵּיkol-chits/TSEall the arrowsהַשָּׂטָןhas/sa/TANof the adversaryהַבּוֹעֲרִיםhab/bo/a/RIMthe burningוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand would beעִמְּךָim/me/KHAwith youבְּכׇל־עֵתbe/KHOL-etin every timeצָרָה׃tsa/RAof trouble

   Yet you should have been faithful; and he would have extended his arm and supported you against all the fiery darts of the adversary; and he would have been with you in every time of trouble.

   הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאַתָּהat/TAyouיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephוְנִבְחַרְתָּve/niv/char/TAand were chosenלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doמְלֶאכֶתme/LE/khetworkיְהוָהAdonaiof the LORDאַךְakhbutבִּגְלַלbig/LALbecause ofהַפֶּשַׁעhap/PE/shathe transgressionאִםimifלֹאlonotתִשָּׁמֵרtish/sha/MERyou take heedתִּפֹּל׃tip/POLshall fall

   Behold, thou art Joseph, and thou wast chosen to do the work of the Lord, but because of transgression, if thou art not aware thou wilt fall.

10. 10

    אַךְakhbutזְכֹרze/KHORrememberכִּיkithatאֵלelGodרַחוּםra/CHUMmercifulהוּאhuis heעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeשׁוּבshuvrepentמֵאֲשֶׁרme/a/SHERfrom whatעָבַרְתָּa/VAR/tayou transgressedעַל־הַמִּצְוָהal-ham/mits/VAagainst the commandmentאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichצִוִּיתִיךָtsiv/vi/TI/khaI commanded youוְעוֹדְךָve/od/KHAand still youנִבְחָרniv/CHARchosenוְנִקְרֵאתָve/nik/re/TAand are calledעוֹדodagainלַמְּלָאכָה׃lam/me/la/KHAto the work

    But remember, God is merciful; therefore, repent of that which thou hast done which is contrary to the commandment which I gave you, and thou art still chosen, and art again called to the work;

    וְאִםve/IMand ifלֹאlonotתַעֲשֶׂהta/a/SEyou doכֵןkhensoתִּנָּתֵןtin/na/TENyou are delivered upוְהָיִיתָve/ha/YI/taand becomeכִּשְׁאָרkish/ARlike the restאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMof menוְאֵין־לְךָve/EN-le/KHAand have noעוֹדodstillמַתָּנָה׃mat/ta/NAgift

    Except thou do this, thou shalt be delivered up and become as other men, and have no more gift.

12. 12

    וּבְתִתְּךָu/ve/tit/te/KHAand when you gaveאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERwhatנָתַןna/TANgaveלְךָle/KHAyouאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodעֵינַיִםe/NA/yimsightוְכֹחַve/KHO/achand powerלְתַרְגְּמוֹle/tar/ge/MOto translate itנָתַתָּna/TAT/tayou gaveקֹדֶשׁKO/desha sacred thingבִּידֵיbi/DEinto the handsאִישׁishof a manרָשָׁע׃ra/SHAwicked

    And when thou deliveredst up that which God had given thee sight and power to translate, thou deliveredst up that which was sacred into the hands of a wicked man,

13. 13

    אֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoבָּזָהba/ZAset at naughtאֶת־עֲצוֹתet-a/TSOTthe counselsאֵלelof Godוְהֵפֵרve/he/FERand brokeהַהַבְטָחוֹתha/hav/ta/CHOTthe promisesקֹדֶשׁ־קׇדָשִׁיםKO/desh-ko/da/SHIMmost sacredאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנִתְּנוּnit/te/NUwere madeלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוְנִשְׁעַןve/nish/ANand leanedעַלaluponבִּינָתוֹbi/na/TOhis own understandingוְהִתְפָּאֵרve/hit/pa/ERand boastedבְּחׇכְמָתוֹ׃be/chokh/ma/TOin his wisdom

    Who has set at naught the counsels of God, and has broken the most sacred promises which were made before God, and has depended upon his own judgment and boasted in his own wisdom.

14. 14

    וְעַל־כֵּןve/AL-kenand thereforeאָבְדוּa/ve/DUwere lostלְךָle/KHAunto youזְכֻיּוֹתֶיךָze/khuy/yo/te/KHAyour privilegesעַד־עֵת׃ad-etfor a season

    And this is the reason that thou hast lost thy privileges for a season—

15. 15

    כִּיkiforהִנַּחְתָּhin/nach/TAyou letאֶת־עֲצַתet-a/TSATcounselמוֹרְךָmor/KHAof your directorלְהֵרָמֵסle/he/ra/MESto be trampledמֵרֵאשִׁית׃me/re/SHITfrom the beginning

    For thou hast suffered the counsel of thy director to be trampled upon from the beginning.

16. 16

    אַךְakhneverthelessמְלַאכְתִּיme/lakh/TImy workתֵּצֵאte/TSEshall go forthכִּיkiforכַאֲשֶׁרkha/a/SHERasבָּאָהba/AcameדַעַתDA/atknowledgeמוֹשִׁיעַMo/SHI/aof a Saviorלָעוֹלָםla/o/LAMinto the worldבְּעֵדוּתbe/e/DUTthrough the testimonyהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMof the Jewsכֵּןkensoתָּבֹאta/VOshall comeדַעַתDA/atknowledgeמוֹשִׁיעַMo/SHI/aof a Saviorאֶל־עַמִּי׃el-am/MIunto my people

    Nevertheless, my work shall go forth, for inasmuch as the knowledge of a Savior has come unto the world, through the testimony of the Jews, even so shall the knowledge of a Savior come unto my people—

17. 17

    וְאֶל־הַנֶּפִיִּיםve/EL-han/ne/fiy/YIMand to the Nephitesוְהַיַּעֲקֹבִיםve/hay/Ya/a/ko/VIMand the Jacobitesוְהַיּוֹסְפִיםve/hay/Yos/FIMand the Josephitesוְהַזּוֹרָמִיםve/haz/Zo/ra/MIMand the Zoramitesבְּעֵדוּתbe/e/DUTthrough the testimonyאֲבוֹתֵיהֶם׃a/vo/te/HEMof their fathers

    And to the Nephites, and the Jacobites, and the Josephites, and the Zoramites, through the testimony of their fathers—

18. 18

    וְהָעֵדוּתve/ha/e/DUTand the testimonyהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisתָּבֹאta/VOshall comeלְדַעַתle/DA/atto knowledgeהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesוְהַלְּמוּאֵלִיםve/hal/Le/mu/e/LIMand the Lemuelitesוְהַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִיםve/hay/Yish/me/e/LIMand the Ishmaelitesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoדָּעֲכוּda/a/KHUdwindledבְּאֵיןbe/ENwithoutאֱמוּנָהe/mu/NAfaithבַּעֲוֹןba/a/VONby iniquityאֲבוֹתֵיהֶםa/vo/te/HEMof their fathersאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomיְהוָהAdonaithe LORDהִנִּיחָםhin/ni/CHAMsuffered themלְהַשְׁמִידle/hash/MIDto destroyאֶת־אֲחֵיהֶםet-a/che/HEMtheir brethrenהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesבַּעֲוֹנֹתֵיהֶםba/a/vo/no/te/HEMbecause of their iniquitiesוּבְתוֹעֲבוֹתֵיהֶם׃u/ve/to/a/vo/te/HEMand their abominations

    And this testimony shall come to the knowledge of the Lamanites, and the Lemuelites, and the Ishmaelites, who dwindled in unbelief because of the iniquity of their fathers, whom the Lord has suffered to destroy their brethren the Nephites, because of their iniquities and their abominations.

    וּלְמַעַןu/le/MA/anand for sakeהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARof the matterהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisנִשְׁמְרוּnish/me/RUwere preservedהַלֻּחוֹתhal/lu/CHOTthe platesהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבָּהֶםba/HEMin themהַכְּתָבִיםhak/ke/ta/VIMthe recordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיִמָּלְאוּyim/ma/le/Umay be fulfilledהַבְטָחוֹתhav/ta/CHOTthe promisesיְהוָהAdonaiof the LORDאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichדִּבֶּרdib/BERhe promisedלְעַמּוֹ׃le/am/MOto his people

    And for this very purpose are these plates preserved, which contain these records—that the promises of the Lord might be fulfilled, which he made to his people;

20. 20

    וּלְמַעַןu/le/MA/anand so thatיָבֹאוּya/VO/umay comeהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesלְדַעַתle/DA/atto knowledgeאֲבוֹתֵיהֶםa/vo/te/HEMof their fathersוְיֵדְעוּve/yed/Uand may knowאֶת־הַבְטָחוֹתet-hav/ta/CHOTpromisesיְהוָהAdonaiof the LORDוְיַאֲמִינוּve/ya/a/MI/nuand may believeבַבְּשׂוֹרָהvab/be/so/RAin the gospelוְיִבְטְחוּve/yiv/te/CHUand may relyבְּצִדְקוֹתbe/tsid/KOTupon the meritsיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aof JesusהַמָּשִׁיחַHam/ma/SHI/achChristוְיִכָּבְדוּve/yik/ka/ve/DUand may be glorifiedבֶאֱמוּנַתve/e/mu/NATthrough the faithשְׁמוֹshe/MOof his nameוּבְשׁוּבָםu/ve/shu/VAMand through their repentanceיִוָּשְׁעוּyiv/va/she/Umay be savedאָמֵן׃a/MENamen

    And that the Lamanites might come to the knowledge of their fathers, and that they might know the promises of the Lord, and that they may believe the gospel and rely upon the merits of Jesus Christ, and be glorified through faith in his name, and that through their repentance they might be saved. Amen.
