   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatלֹא־בָאוּlo-VA/udid not comeהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesלַמִּלְחָמָהlam/mil/cha/MAto battleשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainעַדaduntilעֲבֹרa/VORpassedעֶשֶׂרE/sertenשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsעוֹדodmoreוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdהֶעֱבַדְתִּיhe/e/vad/TII employedאֶת־עַמִּיet-am/MImy peopleהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesבַּהֲכִינָםba/ha/khi/NAMin preparingאֶת־אַדְמוֹתָםet-ad/mo/TAMtheir landsוְכֵלֵיve/khe/LEand the instrumentsנִשְׁקָםnish/KAMof their armsלְעֵתle/ETagainst the timeהַמִּלְחָמָה׃ham/mil/cha/MAof the war

   And it came to pass that the Lamanites did not come to battle again until ten years more had passed away. And behold, I had employed my people, the Nephites, in preparing their lands and their arms against the time of battle.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֵלַיe/LAYto meזְעַקze/AKcryאֶל־הָעָםel-ha/AMunto the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisשׁוּבוּSHU/vurepent youוּבֹאוּu/VO/uand comeאֵלַיe/LAYto meוְהִטָּבְלוּve/hit/ta/ve/LUand be baptizedוּבְנוּu/ve/NUand build upאֶת־עֲדָתִיet-a/da/TImy churchשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainוְתִנָּצְלוּ׃ve/tin/na/tse/LUand you shall be spared

   And it came to pass that the Lord did say unto me: Cry unto this people—Repent ye, and come unto me, and be ye baptized, and build up again my church, and ye shall be spared.

   וָאֶזְעַקva/ez/AKand I criedאֶל־הָעָםel-ha/AMunto the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאַךְakhbutהָיָהha/YAit wasלַשָּׁוְאlash/SHAVin vainוְלֹאve/LOand notהִכִּירוּhik/KI/ruthey did realizeכִּי־יְהוָהki-Adonaithat Adonaiהוּאhuit was heאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatחָמַלcha/MALsparedעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themוְנָתַןve/na/TANand gaveלָהֶםla/HEMthemעֵתeta chanceלָשׁוּבla/SHUVto repentוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdהִקְשׁוּhik/SHUthey hardenedאֶת־לִבָּםet-lib/BAMtheir heartsנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֱלֹהֵיהֶם׃e/lo/he/HEMtheir God

   And I did cry unto this people, but it was in vain; and they did not realize that it was the Lord that had spared them, and granted unto them a chance for repentance. And behold they did harden their hearts against the Lord their God.

   And it came to pass that after this tenth year had passed away, making, in the whole, three hundred and sixty years from the coming of Christ, the king of the Lamanites sent an epistle unto me, which gave unto me to know that they were preparing to come again to battle against us.

   וָאֲצַוva/a/TSAVand I causedאֶת־עַמִּיet-am/MImy peopleוְיִתְקַבְּצוּve/yit/kab/be/TSUthat should gather themselvesיַחַדYA/chadtogetherבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsat the landהַשְּׁמָמָהhash/She/ma/MAof the Desolationאֶל־עִירel-irto a cityאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבַּגְּבוּלוֹתbag/ge/vu/LOTin the bordersעַל־יַדal-yadbyהַמַּעֲבָרham/ma/a/VARthe passהַצַּרhats/TSARthe narrowהַמּוֹלִיךְham/mo/LIKHwhich ledאֶל־הָאָרֶץel-ha/A/retsunto the landדָּרוֹמָה׃da/ro/MAsouthward

   And it came to pass that I did cause my people that they should gather themselves together at the land Desolation, to a city which was in the borders, by the narrow pass which led into the land southward.

   וְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereהִצַּבְנוּhits/tsav/NUdid we placeאֶת־צִבְאוֹתֵינוּet-tsiv/o/te/NUour armiesלַעֲצֹרla/a/TSORthat we might stopאֶת־צִבְאוֹתet-tsiv/OTthe armiesהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TIthat they might notיִירְשׁוּYI/re/shuget possessionמֵאַדְמוֹתֵינוּme/ad/mo/te/NUof any of our landsלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeבִּצַּרְנוּbits/tsar/NUwe fortifiedנֶגְדָּםneg/DAMagainst themבְּכׇל־כֹּחֵנוּ׃be/KHOL-ko/che/NUwith all our force

   And there we did place our armies, that we might stop the armies of the Lamanites, that they might not get possession of any of our lands; therefore we did fortify against them with all our force.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedבִּשְׁנַתbish/NATin the yearשְׁלֹשׁshe/LOSHof threeמֵאוֹתme/OThundredשִׁשִּׁיםshish/SHIMsixtyוְאַחַתve/a/CHATand firstוַיֵּרְדוּvay/yer/DUcame downהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesאֶל־עִירel-irto the cityהַשְּׁמָמָהhash/She/ma/MAof the Desolationלְהִלָּחֵםle/hil/la/CHEMto battleבָּנוּBA/nuagainst usוַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedבַּשָּׁנָהbash/sha/NAin the yearהַהִיאha/HIthatוַנַּכֵּםvan/nak/KEMand we beat themעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERinsomuch thatשָׁבוּSHA/vuthey returnedלְאַרְצָם׃le/ar/TSAMto their own lands

   And it came to pass that in the three hundred and sixty and first year the Lamanites did come down to the city of Desolation to battle against us; and it came to pass that in that year we did beat them, insomuch that they did return to their own lands again.

   וּבִשְׁנַתu/vish/NATand in the yearשְׁלֹשׁshe/LOSHthreeמֵאוֹתme/OThundredשִׁשִּׁיםshish/SHIMsixtyוּשְׁתַּיִםush/TA/yimand secondיָרְדוּya/re/DUthey came downשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainלַמִּלְחָמָהlam/mil/cha/MAto battleוַנַּכֵּםvan/nak/KEMand we beat themשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainוַנַּהֲרֹגvan/na/ha/ROGand slewמֵהֶםme/HEMof themמִסְפָּרmis/PARa numberרַבravgreatוַיֻּשְׁלְכוּvay/yush/le/KHUand were castחַלְלֵיהֶםchal/le/HEMtheir slainאֶל־הַיָּם׃el-hay/YAMinto the sea

   And in the three hundred and sixty and second year they did come down again to battle. And we did beat them again, and did slay a great number of them, and their dead were cast into the sea.

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLthe greatהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichעָשׂוּa/SUdidעַמִּיam/MImy peopleהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesהֵחֵלּוּhe/CHEL/luthey beganלְהִתְפָּאֵרle/hit/pa/ERto boastבְּכֹחָםbe/kho/CHAMin their own strengthוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand they beganלְהִשָּׁבַעle/hish/SHA/vato swearלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimthe heavensכִּיkithatיִנְקְמוּyin/ke/MUwould avenge themselvesאֶת־דַּםet-damof the bloodאֲחֵיהֶםa/che/HEMof their brethrenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoנֶהֶרְגוּne/her/GUhad been slainבִּידֵיbi/DEby the handsאוֹיְבֵיהֶם׃oy/ve/HEMof their enemies

   And now, because of this great thing which my people, the Nephites, had done, they began to boast in their own strength, and began to swear before the heavens that they would avenge themselves of the blood of their brethren who had been slain by their enemies.

10. 10

    וַיִּשָּׁבְעוּvay/yish/sha/ve/Uand they sworeבַּשָּׁמַיִםbash/sha/MA/yimby the heavensוְגַםve/GAMand alsoבְּכִסֵּאbe/khis/SEby the throneאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godכִּיkithatיַעֲלוּya/a/LUthey would go upלַמִּלְחָמָהlam/mil/cha/MAto battleנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstאוֹיְבֵיהֶםoy/ve/HEMtheir enemiesוְיַכְרִיתוּםve/yakh/ri/TUMand would cut them offמֵעַלme/ALfrom uponפְּנֵיpe/NEthe faceהָאֲדָמָה׃ha/a/da/MAof the land

    And they did swear by the heavens, and also by the throne of God, that they would go up to battle against their enemies, and would cut them off from the face of the land.

11. 11

    וָאֶמְאַסva/em/ASand I refusedאֲנִיa/NIIמוֹרְמוֹןMOR/monMormonכָּלִילka/LILutterlyמֵהָעֵתme/ha/ETfrom the timeהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוָהָלְאָהva/HAL/aforthלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beמְפַקֵּדme/fak/KEDa commanderוְנָגִידve/na/GIDand leaderלָעָםla/AMto the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofרִשְׁעָתָםrish/a/TAMtheir wickednessוְתוֹעֲבָתָם׃ve/to/a/va/TAMand their abomination

    And it came to pass that I, Mormon, did utterly refuse from this time forth to be a commander and a leader of this people, because of their wickedness and abomination.

12. 12

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdנָהַגְתִּיna/hag/TII ledאוֹתָםo/TAMthemאַף־גַּם־זֹאתaf-gam-zotnotwithstandingרִשְׁעָתָםrish/a/TAMtheir wickednessהוֹבַלְתִּיםho/val/TIMI led themפְּעָמִיםpe/a/MIMtimesרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyלַקְּרָבlak/ke/RAVto the battleוַאֲהַבְתִּיםva/a/hav/TIMand I loved themכְּאַהֲבַתke/a/ha/VATaccording to the loveאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבִּיbiwas in meבְּכׇל־לְבָבִיbe/KHOL-le/va/VIwith all my heartוַתִּשְׁתַּפֵּךְvat/tish/tap/PEKHand poured outנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHImy soulבִּתְפִלָּהbit/fil/LAin prayerלֵאלֹהַיle/lo/HAYto my Godכׇּל־הַיּוֹםkol-hay/YOMall the day longבַּעֲדָםba/a/DAMfor themאַךְakhneverthelessהָיָהha/YAit wasבְּלִיbe/LIwithoutאֱמוּנָהe/mu/NAfaithמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofקְשִׁיke/SHIthe hardnessלִבָּם׃lib/BAMof their hearts

    Behold, I had led them, notwithstanding their wickedness I had led them many times to battle, and had loved them, according to the love of God which was in me, with all my heart; and my soul had been poured out in prayer unto my God all the day long for them; nevertheless, it was without faith, because of the hardness of their hearts.

13. 13

    וּשְׁלֹשׁu/she/LOSHand threeפְּעָמִיםpe/a/MIMtimesהִצַּלְתִּיםhits/tsal/TIMI delivered themמִיַּדmiy/YADfrom the handאוֹיְבֵיהֶםoy/ve/HEMof their enemiesוְלֹא־שָׁבוּve/LO-SHA/vuand they repented notמֵחַטֹּאתֵיהֶם׃me/chat/to/te/HEMof their sins

    And thrice have I delivered them out of the hands of their enemies, and they have repented not of their sins.

14. 14

    וְכַאֲשֶׁרve/kha/a/SHERand whenנִשְׁבְּעוּnish/be/Uthey sworeבְּכֹלbe/KHOLby allאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנֶאֱסַרne/e/SARhad been forbiddenעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themבִּידֵיbi/DEby the handsאֲדוֹנֵנוּa/do/ne/NUof our Lordוּמוֹשִׁיעֵנוּu/Mo/shi/e/NUand SaviorיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהַמָּשִׁיחַHam/ma/SHI/achChristכִּיkithatיַעֲלוּya/a/LUthey would go upעַל־אוֹיְבֵיהֶםal-oy/ve/HEMupon their enemiesלַמִּלְחָמָהlam/mil/cha/MAto battleוְיִנְקְמוּve/yin/ke/MUand avenge themselvesאֶת־דַּםet-damof the bloodאֲחֵיהֶםa/che/HEMof their brethrenהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבָּאbacameקוֹל־יְהוָהkol-Adonaithe voice of Adonaiאֵלַיe/LAYto meלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    And when they had sworn by all that had been forbidden them by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that they would go up unto their enemies to battle, and avenge themselves of the blood of their brethren, behold the voice of the Lord came unto me, saying:

15. 15

    נְקָמָהne/ka/MAvengeanceלִיliis mineוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iאֲשַׁלֵּםa/shal/LEMwill repayוְיַעַןve/YA/anand becauseלֹא־שָׁבlo-shavrepented notהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEthis peopleאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהַצִּילִיhats/tsi/LII deliveredאוֹתָםo/TAMthemהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdיִכָּרְתוּyik/ka/re/TUthey shall be cut offמֵעַלme/ALfrom uponפְּנֵיpe/NEthe faceהָאֲדָמָה׃ha/a/da/MAof the earth

    Vengeance is mine, and I will repay; and because this people repented not after I had delivered them, behold, they shall be cut off from the face of the earth.

16. 16

    וָאֶמְאַסva/em/ASand I refusedכָּלִילka/LILutterlyלַעֲלוֹתla/a/LOTto go upנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstאוֹיְבַיoy/VAYmy enemiesוָאֶעֱשֶׂהva/e/e/SEand I didכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHEReven asצִוַּנִיtsiv/VA/nicommanded meיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiוָאֶעֱמֹדva/e/e/MODand I stoodמִנֶּגֶדmin/NE/gedidleכְּעֵדke/EDas witnessלְהוֹדִיעַle/ho/DI/ato manifestלָעוֹלָםla/o/LAMto the worldאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe thingsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichרָאִיתִיra/I/tiI sawוְשָׁמַעְתִּיve/sha/ma/TIand I heardכְּפִיke/FIaccording toמַרְאוֹתmar/OTthe manifestationsהָרוּחַha/RU/achof the Spiritאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהֵעִידhe/IDtestifiedעַל־הַדְּבָרִיםal-had/de/va/RIMconcerning the thingsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיָבֹאוּ׃ya/VO/uto come

    And it came to pass that I utterly refused to go up against mine enemies; and I did even as the Lord had commanded me; and I did stand as an idle witness to manifest unto the world the things which I saw and heard, according to the manifestations of the Spirit which had testified of things to come.

17. 17

    עַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeאֶכְתֹּבekh/TOVI writeאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youגּוֹיִםGo/YIMGentilesוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youבֵּית־יִשְׂרָאֵלbet-Yis/ra/ELhouse of Israelכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenיָחֵלya/CHELshall commenceהַמַּעֲשֶׂהham/ma/a/SEthe workכִּיkithatתָּחֵלּוּta/CHEL/luyou shall be aboutלְהִכּוֹןle/hik/KONto prepareלָשׁוּבla/SHUVto returnאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsunto the landנַחֲלַתְכֶם׃na/cha/lat/KHEMof your inheritance

    Therefore I write unto you, Gentiles, and also unto you, house of Israel, when the work shall commence, that ye shall be about to prepare to return to the land of your inheritance;

18. 18

    אַףafyeaהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iכֹּתֵבko/TEVwritingאֶל־כׇּל־קְצוֹתel-kol-ke/TSOTunto all the endsהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the earthאַףafyeaאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youשְׁנֵיםshe/NEMtwoעָשָׂרa/SARtenשִׁבְטֵיshiv/TEtribesיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELof Israelאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoתִּשָּׁפְטוּtish/sha/fe/TUshall be judgedכְּפִיke/FIaccording toמַעֲשֵׂיכֶםma/a/se/KHEMyour worksבִּידֵיbi/DEby the handsהַשְּׁנֵיםhash/she/NEMof the twoעָשָׂרa/SARtenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomבָּחַרba/CHARchoseיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beתַּלְמִידָיוtal/mi/DAYVhis disciplesבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the landיְרוּשָׁלַיִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimof Jerusalem

    Yea, behold, I write unto all the ends of the earth; yea, unto you, twelve tribes of Israel, who shall be judged according to your works by the twelve whom Jesus chose to be his disciples in the land of Jerusalem.

19. 19

    וְכֹתֵבve/kho/TEVand writingאֲנִיa/NIIגַםgamalsoאֶל־שְׁאֵרִיתel-she/e/RITunto the remnantהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEof this peopleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoיִשָּׁפְטוּyish/sha/fe/TUshall be judgedגַם־הֵםgam-hemalso theyבִּידֵיbi/DEby the handsהַשְּׁנֵיםhash/she/NEMof the twoעָשָׂרa/SARtenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomבָּחַרba/CHARchoseיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוְיִשָּׁפְטוּve/yish/sha/fe/TUand shall be judgedבִּידֵיbi/DEby the handsשְׁנֵים־הֶעָשָׂרshe/NEM-he/a/SARof the twelveהָאֲחֵרִיםha/a/che/RIMthe otherאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomבָּחַרba/CHARchoseיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the landיְרוּשָׁלַיִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimof Jerusalem

    And I write also unto the remnant of this people, who shall also be judged by the twelve whom Jesus chose in this land; and they shall be judged by the other twelve whom Jesus chose in the land of Jerusalem.

    וְאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםve/ET-had/de/va/RIMand the thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseמוֹדִיעָהmo/di/Amanifestsהָרוּחַha/RU/achthe Spiritאֵלַיe/LAYto meלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeאֶכְתֹּבekh/TOVI writeאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youכֻּלְּכֶםkul/le/KHEMall of youוּבַעֲבוּרu/va/a/VURand becauseזֹאתzotof thisאֶכְתֹּבekh/TOVI writeאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatתֵּדְעוּted/Uyou may knowכִּיkithatתַּעַמְדוּta/am/DUyou must standכֻּלְּכֶםkul/le/KHEMall of youלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeכִּסֵּא־מִשְׁפַּטkis/SE-mish/PATthe judgment seatהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achof Christאַףafyeaכׇּל־נֶפֶשׁkol-NE/feshevery soulאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho belongsלְכׇל־מִשְׁפַּחַתle/KHOL-mish/PA/chatto all the familyאָדָםA/DAMof Adamוְתַעַמְדוּve/ta/am/DUand you must standלְהִשָּׁפֵטle/hish/sha/FETto be judgedלְפִיle/FIaccording toמַעֲשֵׂיכֶםma/a/se/KHEMyour worksאִם־טוֹבִיםim-to/VIMwhether they be goodוְאִם־רָעִים׃ve/IM-ra/IMor evil

    And these things doth the Spirit manifest unto me; therefore I write unto you all. And for this cause I write unto you, that ye may know that ye must all stand before the judgment-seat of Christ, yea, every soul who belongs to the whole human family of Adam; and ye must stand to be judged of your works, whether they be good or evil;

    And also that ye may believe the gospel of Jesus Christ, which ye shall have among you; and also that the Jews, the covenant people of the Lord, shall have other witness besides him whom they saw and heard, that Jesus, whom they slew, was the very Christ and the very God.

    וּמִי־יִתֵּןu/MI-yit/TENand O thatוְאוּכַלve/u/KHALand I couldלְהָשִׁיבle/ha/SHIVto turnאֶת־כׇּל־קְצוֹתet-kol-ke/TSOTall the endsהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the earthלָשׁוּבla/SHUVto repentוּלְהִכּוֹןu/le/hik/KONand to prepareלַעֲמֹדla/a/MODto standלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeכִּסֵּא־מִשְׁפַּטkis/SE-mish/PATthe judgment seatהַמָּשִׁיחַ׃ham/Ma/SHI/achof Christ

    And I would that I could persuade all ye ends of the earth to repent and prepare to stand before the judgment-seat of Christ.
