   The words which Jacob, the brother of Nephi, spake unto the people of Nephi, after the death of Nephi:

   Now, my beloved brethren, I, Jacob, according to the responsibility which I am under to God, to magnify mine office with soberness, and that I might rid my garments of your sins, I come up into the temple this day that I might declare unto you the word of God.

   And ye yourselves know that I have hitherto been diligent in the office of my calling; but I this day am weighed down with much more desire and anxiety for the welfare of your souls than I have hitherto been.

   For behold, as yet, ye have been obedient unto the word of the Lord, which I have given unto you.

   But behold, hearken ye unto me, and know that by the help of the all-powerful Creator of heaven and earth I can tell you concerning your thoughts, how that ye are beginning to labor in sin, which sin appeareth very abominable unto me, yea, and abominable unto God.

   הֵןhenyeaתַּדְאִיבtad/IVit shall grieveנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHImy soulוְתַכְרִיעֵנִיve/takh/ri/e/NIand causes me to shrinkבַבֹּשֶׁתvab/BO/shetwith the shameלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeעֹשִׂיO/SImy Makerכִּיkithatעָלַיa/LAYupon meלְהָעִידle/ha/IDto bear witnessבִּרְשַׁעbir/SHAconcerning the wickednessלְבַבְכֶם׃le/vav/KHEMof your hearts

   Yea, it grieveth my soul and causeth me to shrink with shame before the presence of my Maker, that I must testify unto you concerning the wickedness of your hearts.

   וְגַם־יַכְאִיבve/GAM-yakh/IVand also it grievesלִיlimeלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERto speakדִּבְרֵיdiv/REthe wordsעֹזozof boldnessכָּאֵלֶּהka/EL/lesuch as theseעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMconcerning youלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeנְשֵׁיכֶםne/she/KHEMyour wivesוּבְנֵיכֶםu/ve/ne/KHEMand your childrenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyמֵהֶםme/HEMof themרַכֵּי־לֵבָבrak/KE-le/VAVare tender of heartוּטְהוֹרִיםu/te/ho/RIMand chasteוַעֲדִינִיםva/a/di/NIMand delicateלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich thingיִרְצֶהyir/TSEhe delightsבָם׃vamin them

   And also it grieveth me that I must use so much boldness of speech concerning you, before your wives and your children, many of whose feelings are exceedingly tender and chaste and delicate before God, which thing is pleasing unto God;

   וַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iחֹשֵׁבcho/SHEVsupposeכִּיkithatעָלוּa/LUcame upהֵנָּהHEN/nahitherלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato hearאֶת־דְּבַר־אֱלֹהִיםet-de/VAR-e/lo/HIMthe word of Godהַנָּעִיםhan/na/IMthe pleasingהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe wordהָרֹפֵאha/ro/FEwhich healsאֶת־הַנֶּפֶשׁet-han/NE/feshthe soulהַפְּצוּעָה׃hap/pe/tsu/Athe wounded

   And it supposeth me that they have come up hither to hear the pleasing word of God, yea, the word which healeth the wounded soul.

   Wherefore, it burdeneth my soul that I should be constrained, because of the strict commandment which I have received from God, to admonish you according to your crimes, to enlarge the wounds of those who are already wounded, instead of consoling and healing their wounds; and those who have not been wounded, instead of feasting upon the pleasing word of God have daggers placed to pierce their souls and wound their delicate minds.

    וְאַףve/AFand evenכִּי־גָדְלָהki-ga/de/LAthat great isהַמְּלָאכָהham/me/la/KHAthe taskעָלַיa/LAYupon meלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doכְּפִיke/FIaccording toמִצְוֹת־אֱלֹהִיםmits/VOT-e/lo/HIMthe commandments of Godהַחֲזָקוֹתha/cha/za/KOTthe strictוּלְהַגִּידu/le/hag/GIDand to tellלָכֶםla/KHEMyouרִשְׁעַתְכֶםrish/at/KHEMyour wickednessוְתוֹעֲבוֹתֵיכֶםve/to/a/vo/te/KHEMand your abominationsלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeטְהוֹרֵיte/ho/REthe pure inלֵבlevheartוְנִשְׁבְּרֵיve/nish/be/REand the brokenלֵבlevheartוְתַחַתve/TA/chatand underמַבַּטmab/BATthe glanceעֵין־אֵלen-elof the eye of GodשַׁדַּיShad/DAYAlmightyהַחוֹדֶרֶת׃ha/cho/DE/retthe piercing

    But, notwithstanding the greatness of the task, I must do according to the strict commands of God, and tell you concerning your wickedness and abominations, in the presence of the pure in heart, and the broken heart, and under the glance of the piercing eye of the Almighty God.

    לָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeאַגִּידag/GIDI must tellלָכֶםla/KHEMyouהָאֱמֶתha/e/METthe truthכְּיֹשֶׁרke/YO/sheraccording to the plainnessדְּבַר־אֱלֹהִיםde/VAR-e/lo/HIMof the word of Godכִּיkiforהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasשָׁאַלְתִּיsha/AL/tiI inquired ofמֵאֵתme/ETfromיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiכֵּןkenthusבָּאbacameאֵלַיe/LAYunto meהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe wordלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVJacobעֲלֵהa/LEgo upאֶל־הַהֵיכָלel-ha/he/KHALunto the templeמָחָרma/CHARon the morrowוְהַגֵּדve/hag/GEDand declareאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאֶתֵּן־לְךָet/TEN-le/KHAI shall give youלָעָםla/AMunto the peopleהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    Wherefore, I must tell you the truth according to the plainness of the word of God. For behold, as I inquired of the Lord, thus came the word unto me, saying: Jacob, get thou up into the temple on the morrow, and declare the word which I shall give thee unto this people.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאַחַיa/CHAYmy brethrenזֶהzethis isהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe wordאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאַגִּידag/GIDI tellלָכֶםla/KHEMyouכִּיkithatהֵחֵלּוּhe/CHEL/lubeganרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyמִכֶּםmik/KEMof youלְבַקֵּשׁle/vak/KESHto search forזָהָבza/HAVgoldוָכֶסֶףva/KHE/sefand silverוְכׇל־מִינֵיve/KHOL-mi/NEand all mannerמַתְכּוֹתmat/KOTof metalsיְקָרוֹתye/ka/ROTpreciousאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwherewithהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisאֶרֶץE/retsthe landהַנַּחֲלָהhan/na/cha/LAof promiseלָכֶםla/KHEMyouוּלְזַרְעֲכֶםu/le/zar/a/KHEMand unto your seedמְלֵאָהme/le/Afullבָּהֶםba/HEMwith themבְּשֶׁפַעbe/SHE/fain abundanceרָב׃ravgreat

    And now behold, my brethren, this is the word which I declare unto you, that many of you have begun to search for gold, and for silver, and for all manner of precious ores, in the which this land, which is a land of promise unto you and to your seed, doth abound most plentifully.

    וַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand wasיַדyadthe handאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godהַטּוֹבָהhat/to/VAthe goodעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMupon youוַתַּשִּׂיגוּvat/tas/si/GUand you obtainedעֹשֶׁרO/sherrichesרָבravgreatוּבִגְלַלu/vig/LALand becauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatהִשִּׂיגוּhis/SI/guobtainedאֲחָדִיםa/cha/DIMa fewמִכֶּםmik/KEMof youיוֹתֵרyo/TERmoreמֵאֲחֵיכֶםme/a/che/KHEMthan your brethrenהִתְנַשְּׂאוּhit/nas/se/Uyou are lifted upבְּגַאֲוַתbe/ga/a/VATin the prideלְבַבְכֶםle/vav/KHEMof your heartsוַתֵּלְכוּvat/tel/KHUand you walkבְּעֹרֶףbe/O/refwith a neckקָשֶׁהka/SHEstiffוּבְרֹאשׁu/ve/ROSHand with headsמוּרָםmu/RAMheld highמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofיֹקֶרYO/kerthe costlinessמַלְבּוּשֵׁיכֶםmal/bu/she/KHEMof your apparelוַתִּרְדְּפוּvat/tir/de/FUand you persecuteאֶת־אֲחֵיכֶםet-a/che/KHEMyour brethrenכִּיkibecauseתַחְשְׁבוּtach/she/VUyou supposeכִּיkithatטוֹבִיםto/VIMbetterאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areמֵהֶם׃me/HEMthan they

    And the hand of providence hath smiled upon you most pleasingly, that you have obtained many riches; and because some of you have obtained more abundantly than that of your brethren ye are lifted up in the pride of your hearts, and wear stiff necks and high heads because of the costliness of your apparel, and persecute your brethren because ye suppose that ye are better than they.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאַחַיa/CHAYmy brethrenהֲתַחְשְׁבוּha/tach/she/VUdo you supposeכִּיkithatיַצְדִּיקyats/DIKjustifiesאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouבַּדָּבָרbad/da/VARin the thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֹמֵרo/MERsayאֲנִיa/NIIלָכֶםla/KHEMunto youלֹאlonoכִּיkibutיַרְשִׁיעַyar/SHI/ahe shall condemnאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouוְאִםve/IMand ifתַּחֲזִיקוּta/cha/zi/KUyou shall persistבַּדְּבָרִיםbad/de/va/RIMin the thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseבּוֹאbomustיָבֹאוּya/VO/ucomeמִשְׁפָּטָיוmish/pa/TAYVhis judgmentsעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMupon youמְהֵרָה׃me/he/RAspeedily

    And now, my brethren, do ye suppose that God justifieth you in this thing? Behold, I say unto you, Nay. But he condemneth you, and if ye persist in these things his judgments must speedily come unto you.

    מִי־יִתֵּןmi-yit/TENO thatוְיַרְאֶהve/yar/Eand he shall manifestלָכֶםla/KHEMunto youכִּיkithatיוּכַלyu/KHALhe canלִדְקֹרlid/KORto pierceאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouוּבְמַבָּטu/ve/mab/BATand with a glanceאֶחָדe/CHADoneמֵעֵינָיוme/e/NAYVfrom his eyesיוּכַלyu/KHALhe canלְהַכּוֹתְכֶםle/hak/kot/KHEMto smite youעַדaduntoעָפָר׃a/FARthe dust

    O that he would show you that he can pierce you, and with one glance of his eye he can smite you to the dust!

16. 16

    מִי־יִתֵּןmi-yit/TENO thatוִיטַהֵרvi/ta/HERthat he would cleanseאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouמֵהָעָוֹןme/ha/a/VONfrom the iniquityוְהַתּוֹעֵבָהve/hat/to/e/VAand the abominationהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוּמִי־יִתֵּןu/MI-yit/TENand O thatוְתִשְׁמְעוּve/tish/me/Uthat you would hearkenלְדִבְרֵיle/div/REunto the wordsמִצְוֹתָיוmits/vo/TAYVof his commandmentsוְאַל־תַּשְׁחִיתve/AL-tash/CHITand let not destroyגַּאֲוַתga/a/VATthe prideלְבַבְכֶםle/vav/KHEMof your heartsאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹתֵיכֶם׃et-naf/sho/te/KHEMyour souls

    O that he would rid you from this iniquity and abomination. And, O that ye would listen unto the word of his commands, and let not this pride of your hearts destroy your souls!

17. 17

    חִשְׁבוּchish/VUthinkעַל־אֲחֵיכֶםal-a/che/KHEMof your brethrenכְּמוֹתְכֶםke/mot/KHEMlike unto yourselvesוְהִתְחַבְּרוּve/hit/chab/be/RUand be familiarעִם־כֻּלָּםim-kul/LAMwith allוּפַזְּרוּu/faz/ze/RUand be free withמֵרְכוּשְׁכֶםmer/khush/KHEMyour substanceלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיַעֲשִׁירוּya/a/shi/RUthey may be richכְּמוֹתְכֶם׃ke/mot/KHEMlike unto you

    Think of your brethren like unto yourselves, and be familiar with all and free with your substance, that they may be rich like unto you.

18. 18

    אַךְakhbutלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeבַקֶּשְׁכֶםvak/kesh/KHEMyour seekingעֹשֶׁרO/sherrichesבַּקְּשׁוּbak/ke/SHUseekאֶת־מַלְכוּתet-mal/KHUTthe kingdomהָאֱלֹהִים׃ha/e/lo/HIMof God

    But before ye seek for riches, seek ye for the kingdom of God.

19. 19

    וְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatתַּשִּׂיגוּtas/si/GUyou obtainedתִּקְוָהtik/VAa hopeבַּמָּשִׁיחַbam/Ma/SHI/achin Christתַּשִּׂיגוּtas/si/GUyou shall obtainעֹשֶׁרO/sherrichesאִם־תְּבַקְּשׁוּהוּim-te/vak/ke/shu/HUif you seek itוּתְבַקְּשׁוּהוּu/te/vak/ke/shu/HUand you shall seek itלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatהֵיטִיבhe/TIVto do goodלְהַלְבִּישׁle/hal/BISHto clotheעֲרֻמִּיםa/rum/MIMthe nakedוּלְהַאֲכִילu/le/ha/a/KHILand to feedרְעֵבִיםre/e/VIMthe hungryוּלְשַׁלַּחu/le/shal/LACHand to setאֲסִירִיםa/si/RIMthe captivesחׇפְשִׁיםchof/SHIMfreeוּלְהָבִיאu/le/ha/VIand to bringרְוָחָהre/va/CHAreliefלַחוֹלִיםla/cho/LIMunto the sickוְלַנִּדְכָּאִים׃ve/lan/nid/ka/IMand unto the afflicted

    And after ye have obtained a hope in Christ ye shall obtain riches, if ye seek them; and ye will seek them for the intent to do good—to clothe the naked, and to feed the hungry, and to liberate the captive, and administer relief to the sick and the afflicted.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאַחַיa/CHAYmy brethrenדִּבַּרְתִּיdib/BAR/tiI spokeאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youעַל־הַגַּאֲוָהal-hag/ga/a/VAconcerning the prideוְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהִכְאַבְתֶּםhikh/av/TEMafflictedלְרֵעֲכֶםle/re/a/KHEMyour neighborוּרְדַפְתֶּםu/re/daf/TEMand persecutedאוֹתוֹo/TOhimכִּיkibecauseהִתְגָּאִיתֶםhit/ga/i/TEMyou were proudבִּלְבַבְכֶםbil/vav/KHEMin your heartsעַל־הַדְּבָרִיםal-had/de/va/RIMof the thingsאֲשֶׁר־נָתַןa/SHER-na/TANwhich gaveלָכֶםla/KHEMyouאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodמַה־תֹּאמְרוּma-to/me/RUwhat have you to sayעַל־זֹאת׃al-zotof this

    And now, my brethren, I have spoken unto you concerning pride; and those of you which have afflicted your neighbor, and persecuted him because ye were proud in your hearts, of the things which God hath given you, what say ye of it?

21. 21

    הֲלֹאha/LOdo you notתַחְשְׁבוּtach/she/VUsupposeכִּיkithatתוֹעֵבָהto/e/VAabominableהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeבּוֹרֵאBo/RECreatorכׇּל־בָּשָׂרkol-ba/SARof all fleshוְהָאֶחָדve/ha/e/CHADand the oneיָקָרya/KARis preciousבְּעֵינָיוbe/e/NAYVin his eyesכְּמוֹke/MOasהָאַחֵרha/a/CHERthe otherוְכׇל־בָּשָׂרve/KHOL-ba/SARand all fleshמִן־הֶעָפָרmin-he/a/FARfrom the dustוּלְתַכְלִיתu/le/takh/LITand for a purposeאַחַתa/CHAToneבְּרָאָםbe/ra/AMdid he create themלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto keepמִצְוֹתָיוmits/vo/TAYVhis commandmentsוּלְפָאֲרוֹu/le/fa/a/ROand to glorify himלָעַד׃la/ADforever

    Do ye not suppose that such things are abominable unto him who created all flesh? And the one being is as precious in his sight as the other. And all flesh is of the dust; and for the selfsame end hath he created them, that they should keep his commandments and glorify him forever.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאֲכַלֶּהa/khal/LEI shall make an end ofלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERto speakאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youעַל־הַגַּאֲוָהal-hag/ga/a/VAconcerning the prideהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוְלוּלֵאve/lu/LEand were it notהָיָהha/YAwould have beenעָלַיa/LAYupon meלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERto speakאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youעַל־פֶּשַׁעal-PE/shaconcerning a transgressionגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatמִזֶּהmiz/ZEthan thisשָׂשׂsasrejoicingהָיָהha/YAwould have beenלִבִּיlib/BImy heartמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyבִּגְלַלְכֶם׃big/lal/KHEMbecause of you

    And now I make an end of speaking unto you concerning this pride. And were it not that I must speak unto you concerning a grosser crime, my heart would rejoice exceedingly because of you.

    אַךְakhbutדְּבַר־אֱלֹהִיםde/VAR-e/lo/HIMthe word of Godמַכְבִּידmakh/BIDburdensעָלַיa/LAYupon meבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofפִּשְׁעֵיכֶםpish/e/KHEMyour crimesהַגְּדוֹלִיםhag/ge/do/LIMthe greatכִּיkiforהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiהֵחֵלhe/CHELbeganהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEthis peopleלִגְדֹּלlig/DOLto growבֶּעָוֹןbe/a/VONin iniquityלֹאlonotיָבִינוּya/VI/nuthey understandאֶת־הַכְּתוּבִיםet-hak/ke/tu/VIMthe scripturesכִּיkiforמְבַקְּשִׁיםme/vak/ke/SHIMthey seekלְהַצְדִּיקle/hats/DIKto justifyנַפְשָׁםnaf/SHAMtheir soulבַּעֲשׂוֹתָםba/a/so/TAMin their doingזְנוּנִיםze/nu/NIMwhoredomsבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMthe thingsהַכְּתוּבִיםhak/ke/tu/VIMwhich were writtenעַל־דָּוִדal-Da/VIDconcerning Davidוּשְׁלֹמֹהu/She/lo/MOand Solomonבְּנוֹ׃be/NOhis son

    But the word of God burdens me because of your grosser crimes. For behold, thus saith the Lord: This people begin to wax in iniquity; they understand not the scriptures, for they seek to excuse themselves in committing whoredoms, because of the things which were written concerning David, and Solomon his son.

24. 24

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdדָוִדDa/VIDDavidוּשְׁלֹמֹהu/She/lo/MOand Solomonאׇמְנָםom/NAMtrulyהָיוּha/YUwereלָהֶםla/HEMunto themנָשִׁיםna/SHIMwivesרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyוּפִילַגְשִׁיםu/fi/lag/SHIMand concubinesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich thingהָיָהha/YAwasתּוֹעֵבָהto/e/VAabominationלְפָנַיle/fa/NAYbefore meנְאֻם־יְהוָה׃ne/UM-Adonaisays Adonai

    Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord.

25. 25

    לָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiהוֹצֵאתִיho/TSE/tiI ledאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsout of the landיְרוּשָׁלַיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimof Jerusalemבִּזְרוֹעַbiz/RO/aby the armעֻזִּיuz/ZIof my powerלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatאָקִיםa/KIMI might raise upלִיliunto meעָנָףa/NAFa branchצַדִּיקtsad/DIKrighteousמִפְּרִיmip/pe/RIfrom the fruitחַלְצֵיchal/TSEof the loinsיוֹסֵף׃Yo/SEFof Joseph

    Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph.

26. 26

    לָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeאֲנִיa/NIIיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodלֹא־אֶתֵּןlo-et/TENnot shall I sufferלָעָםla/AMthe peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doכַּקַּדְמוֹנִים׃kak/kad/mo/NIMlike unto them of old

    Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old.

27. 27

    לָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeאַחַיa/CHAYmy brethrenשִׁמְעוּ־לִיshim/U-lihear meוְהַקְשִׁיבוּve/hak/SHI/vuand hearkenלִדְבַרlid/VARunto the wordיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiכִּי־לֹאki-lofor notיִהְיֶהyih/YEshall beלְאִישׁle/ISHunto any manמִכֶּםmik/KEMamong youכִּי־אִםki-imbutאִשָּׁהish/SHAa wifeאֶחָתe/CHAToneוּפִילַגְשִׁיםu/fi/lag/SHIMand concubinesלֹא־תִהְיֶינָהlo-tih/YE/nashall not beלוֹ׃lounto him

    Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;

28. 28

    כִּי־אֲנִיki-a/NIfor IיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodחָפֵץcha/FETSdelightבְּטׇהֳרַתbe/to/ho/RATin the chastityהַנָּשִׁיםhan/na/SHIMof the womenוְהַזְּנוּנִיםve/haz/ze/nu/NIMand the whoredomsתּוֹעֵבָהto/e/VAare an abominationלְפָנַיle/fa/NAYbefore meנְאֻם־יְהוָהne/UM-Adonaisays Adonaiצְבָאוֹת׃Tse/va/OTof Hosts

    For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.

29. 29

    לָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeיִשְׁמֹרyish/MORshall keepהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEthis peopleאֶת־מִצְוֹתַיet-mits/vo/TAYmy commandmentsנְאֻם־יְהוָהne/UM-Adonaisays AdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsוְאִם־לֹאve/IM-loand if notאָרוֹרa/RORcurseתֵּאָרֵרte/a/RERit shall be cursedהָאָרֶץha/A/retsthe landבַּעֲבוּרָם׃ba/a/vu/RAMbecause of them

    Wherefore, this people shall keep my commandments, saith the Lord of Hosts, or cursed be the land for their sakes.

30. 30

    כִּיkiforאִםimifאֶחְפֹּץech/POTSI willנְאֻם־יְהוָהne/UM-Adonaisays AdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsלְהָקִיםle/ha/KIMto raise upלִיliunto meזֶרַעZE/raseedאֲצַוֶּהa/tsav/VEI will commandאֶת־עַמִּיet-am/MImy peopleוְאִם־לֹאve/IM-loand if notיִשְׁמְעוּyish/me/Uthey shall hearkenלַדְּבָרִיםlad/de/va/RIMunto the thingsהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

    For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.

31. 31

    כִּיkiforהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֲנִיa/NIIיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiרָאִיתִיra/I/tiI sawאֶת־הַיָּגוֹןet-hay/ya/GONthe sorrowוְשָׁמַעְתִּיve/sha/ma/TIand heardאֶת־אַנְחַתet-an/CHATthe mourningבְּנוֹתbe/NOTof the daughtersעַמִּיam/MIof my peopleבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the landיְרוּשָׁלַיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimof Jerusalemוּבְכׇל־אַרְצוֹתu/ve/KHOL-ar/TSOTand in all the landsעַמִּיam/MIof my peopleמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofרִשְׁעַתrish/ATthe wickedness ofוְתוֹעֲבוֹתve/to/a/VOTand the abominationsבַּעְלֵיהֶן׃ba/le/HENof their husbands

    For behold, I, the Lord, have seen the sorrow, and heard the mourning of the daughters of my people in the land of Jerusalem, yea, and in all the lands of my people, because of the wickedness and abominations of their husbands.

32. 32

    וְנָתוֹןve/na/TONand sufferלֹא־אֶתֵּןlo-et/TENI will not sufferנְאֻם־יְהוָהne/UM-Adonaisays AdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsכִּיkithatתַעֲלֶינָהta/a/LE/nashall come upזַעֲקוֹתza/a/KOTthe criesבְּנוֹתbe/NOTof the daughtersהָעָםha/AMof the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisהַיָּפוֹתhay/ya/FOTthe fairאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomהוֹצֵאתִיho/TSE/tiI ledמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsout of the landיְרוּשָׁלַיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimof Jerusalemאֵלַיe/LAYunto meנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe menעַמִּיam/MIof my peopleנְאֻם־יְהוָהne/UM-Adonaisays Adonaiצְבָאוֹת׃Tse/va/OTof Hosts

    And I will not suffer, saith the Lord of Hosts, that the cries of the fair daughters of this people, which I have led out of the land of Jerusalem, shall come up unto me against the men of my people, saith the Lord of Hosts.

33. 33

    כִּי־לֹאki-lofor notיִשְׁבּוּyish/BUthey shall lead away captiveאֶת־בְּנוֹתet-be/NOTthe daughtersעַמִּיam/MIof my peopleבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofרַכּוּתָןrak/ku/TANtheir tendernessאִם־לֹאim-loexceptפָּקוֹדpa/KODvisitאֶפְקֹדef/KODI shall visitעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themבִּקְלָלָהbik/la/LAwith a curseנִמְרֶצֶתnim/RE/tsetsoreעַד־לְהַשְׁמִידad-le/hash/MIDeven unto destroyingכִּי־לֹאki-lofor notיַעֲשׂוּya/a/SUthey shall commitזְנוּנִיםze/nu/NIMwhoredomsכַּקַּדְמוֹנִיםkak/kad/mo/NIMlike unto those of oldנְאֻם־יְהוָהne/UM-Adonaisays Adonaiצְבָאוֹת׃Tse/va/OTof Hosts

    For they shall not lead away captive the daughters of my people because of their tenderness, save I shall visit them with a sore curse, even unto destruction; for they shall not commit whoredoms, like unto them of old, saith the Lord of Hosts.

34. 34

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאַחַיa/CHAYmy brethrenיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowכִּיkithatנִתְּנוּnit/te/NUwere givenהַמִּצְוֹתham/mits/VOTthe commandmentsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseלְאָבִינוּle/a/VI/nuunto our fatherלֶחִיLE/chiLehiוִידַעְתֶּםvi/da/TEMand you knewאוֹתָןo/TANthemמִלְּפָנִיםmil/le/fa/NIMof oldוּבָאתֶםu/va/TEMand you cameבְּאַשְׁמָהbe/ash/MAinto condemnationגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatכִּיkiforעֲשִׂיתֶםa/si/TEMyou didאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe thingsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלֹא־הָיָהlo-ha/YAwas notלָכֶםla/KHEMfor youלַעֲשׂוֹת׃la/a/SOTto do

    And now behold, my brethren, ye know that these commandments were given to our father, Lehi; wherefore, ye have known them before; and ye have come unto great condemnation; for ye have done these things which ye ought not to have done.

35. 35

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdעֲשִׂיתֶםa/si/TEMyou didעֲוֹנוֹתa/vo/NOTiniquitiesגְּדוֹלִיםge/do/LIMgreatמִן־הַלָּמָנִיםmin-Hal/la/ma/NIMthan the Lamanitesאַחֵינוּa/CHE/nuour brethrenשְׁבַרְתֶּםshe/var/TEMyou brokeאֶת־לִבּוֹתet-lib/BOTthe heartsנְשֵׁיכֶםne/she/KHEMof your wivesהָרַכּוֹתha/rak/KOTthe tenderוַתְּאַבְּדוּvat/te/ab/be/DUand you lostאֱמוּנַתe/mu/NATthe confidenceבְּנֵיכֶםbe/ne/KHEMof your childrenבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofמוֹפְתֵיכֶםmof/te/KHEMyour examplesהָרָעִיםha/ra/IMthe badלִפְנֵיהֶםlif/ne/HEMbefore themוְעוֹלוֹתve/o/LOTand ascend upאַנְחוֹתan/CHOTthe sobbingsלִבָּםlib/BAMof their heartsאֶל־אֱלֹהִיםel-e/lo/HIMunto Godנֶגְדְּכֶםneg/de/KHEMagainst youוּמִפְּנֵיu/mip/pe/NEand becauseחֶזְקַתchez/KATof the strictnessדְּבַר־אֱלֹהִיםde/VAR-e/lo/HIMof the word of Godהַיּוֹרֵדhay/yo/REDwhich comes downעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMagainst youמֵתוּME/tudiedלְבָבוֹתle/va/VOTheartsרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyמְדֻקָּרִיםme/duk/ka/RIMpiercedבִּפְצָעִיםbif/tsa/IMwith woundsעֲמֻקִּים׃a/muk/KIMdeep

    Behold, ye have done greater iniquities than the Lamanites, our brethren. Ye have broken the hearts of your tender wives, and lost the confidence of your children, because of your bad examples before them; and the sobbings of their hearts ascend up to God against you. And because of the strictness of the word of God, which cometh down against you, many hearts died, pierced with deep wounds.
