   And it came to pass that he wrote again to the governor of the land, who was Pahoran, and these are the words which he wrote, saying: Behold, I direct mine epistle to Pahoran, in the city of Zarahemla, who is the chief judge and the governor over the land, and also to all those who have been chosen by this people to govern and manage the affairs of this war.

   For behold, I have somewhat to say unto them by the way of condemnation; for behold, ye yourselves know that ye have been appointed to gather together men, and arm them with swords, and with cimeters, and all manner of weapons of war of every kind, and send forth against the Lamanites, in whatsoever parts they should come into our land.

   And now behold, I say unto you that myself, and also my men, and also Helaman and his men, have suffered exceedingly great sufferings; yea, even hunger, thirst, and fatigue, and all manner of afflictions of every kind.

   אַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdלוּluifרַקrakonlyזֹאתzotthisסָבַלְנוּsa/val/NUwe sufferedלֹאlonotנִלּוֹןnil/LONwe would have murmuredוְלֹאve/LOnorנִתְאוֹנֵן׃nit/o/NENcomplained

   But behold, were this all we had suffered we would not murmur nor complain.

   אַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatהָיָהha/YAhas beenהַהֶרֶגha/HE/regthe slaughterבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongעַמֵּנוּam/ME/nuour peopleאַףafyeaאֲלָפִיםa/la/FIMthousandsנָפְלוּna/fe/LUfellבַּחֶרֶבba/CHE/revby the swordבְּעוֹדbe/ODwhileיָכֹלya/KHOLit couldהָיָהha/YAhaveלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTbeenאַחֶרֶתa/CHE/retotherwiseלוּluifנְתַתֶּםne/tat/TEMyou renderedלְצִבְאוֹתֵינוּle/tsiv/o/te/NUunto our armiesכֹּחַKO/achstrengthוְעֶזְרָהve/ez/RAand succorכְּדַיke/DAYsufficientאַףafyeaגְּדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatהָיְתָהha/ye/TAhas beenעֲזוּבַתְכֶםa/zu/vat/KHEMyour neglectאוֹתָנוּ׃o/TA/nutowards us

   But behold, great has been the slaughter among our people; yea, thousands have fallen by the sword, while it might have otherwise been if ye had rendered unto our armies sufficient strength and succor for them. Yea, great has been your neglect towards us.

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdחֲפֵצִיםcha/fe/TSIMdesireאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweלָדַעַתla/DA/atto knowסִבַּתsib/BATthe causeהָעֲזוּבָהha/a/zu/VAof the neglectהַגְּדוֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAthe greatמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisאַףafyeaחֲפֵצִיםcha/fe/TSIMdesireאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweלָדַעַתla/DA/atto knowסִבַּתsib/BATthe causeשִׁכְחַתְכֶם׃shikh/chat/KHEMof your forgetfulness

   And now behold, we desire to know the cause of this exceedingly great neglect; yea, we desire to know the cause of your thoughtless state.

   הֲתוּכְלוּha/tukh/LUcan youלָשֶׁבֶתla/SHE/vetto sitעַל־כִּסְאוֹתֵיכֶםal-kis/o/te/KHEMupon your thronesבְּתַרְדֵּמַתbe/tar/de/MATin the stuporשִׁכְחָהshikh/CHAof forgetfulnessבְּעוֹדbe/ODwhileאוֹיְבֵיכֶםoy/ve/KHEMyour enemiesמְפִיצִיםme/fi/TSIMare spreadingמַעֲשֵׂהma/a/SEthe workמָוֶתMA/vetof deathסְבִיבְכֶםse/vi/ve/KHEMaround youאַףafyeaבְּעוֹדbe/ODwhileהוֹרְגִיםhor/GIMare murderingהֵםhemtheyאֲלָפִיםa/la/FIMthousandsמֵאֲחֵיכֶם׃me/a/che/KHEMof your brethren

   Can you think to sit upon your thrones in a state of thoughtless stupor, while your enemies are spreading the work of death around you? Yea, while they are murdering thousands of your brethren—

   אַףafyeaאֵלֶּהEL/lethoseאֲשֶׁר־נָשְׂאוּa/SHER-na/se/Uwho lifted upעֵינֵיהֶםe/ne/HEMtheir eyesאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youלְהָגֵןle/ha/GENto defendעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMthemאַףafyeaשָׂמוּSA/muplacedאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouבְּמָקוֹםbe/ma/KOMin a placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיְכָלְתֶּםye/khal/TEMyou might have been ableלַעֲזֹרla/a/ZORto succorלָהֶםla/HEMthemהֵןhenyeaיְכָלְתֶּםye/khal/TEMyou might haveלִשְׁלֹחַlish/LO/achto sendצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTarmiesאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMunto themלְחַזְּקָםle/chaz/ze/KAMto strengthen themוּלְהַצִּילu/le/hats/TSILand to saveאֲלָפִיםa/la/FIMthousandsמִנְּפֹלmin/ne/FOLfrom fallingבֶּחָרֶב׃be/CHA/revby the sword

   Yea, even they who have looked up to you for protection, yea, have placed you in a situation that ye might have succored them, yea, ye might have sent armies unto them, to have strengthened them, and have saved thousands of them from falling by the sword.

   אַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdלֹא־רַקlo-raknot onlyזֹאתzotthisמְנַעְתֶּםme/na/TEMyou have withheldמֵהֶםme/HEMfrom themאֶת־צֵידָתָםet-tse/da/TAMtheir provisionsעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyנִלְחֲמוּnil/cha/MUfoughtוְשָׁפְכוּve/sha/fe/KHUand poured outאֶת־חַיֵּיהֶםet-chay/ye/HEMtheir livesבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofרְצוֹנָםre/tso/NAMtheir desireהָרַבha/RAVthe greatלְטוֹבַתle/to/VATfor the welfareהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEof this peopleהֵןhenyeaוְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisעָשׂוּa/SUthey didכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenהָיוּha/YUthey wereעֹמְדִיםom/DIMaboutלִגְוֹעַlig/VO/ato perishבָּרָעָבba/ra/AVwith hungerבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofעֲזוּבַתְכֶםa/zu/vat/KHEMyour neglectהַגְּדוֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAthe greatמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyאוֹתָם׃o/TAMtowards them

   But behold, this is not all—ye have withheld your provisions from them, insomuch that many have fought and bled out their lives because of their great desires which they had for the welfare of this people; yea, and this they have done when they were about to perish with hunger, because of your exceedingly great neglect towards them.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאַחַיa/CHAYmy brethrenהָאֲהוּבִיםha/a/hu/VIMthe belovedכִּיkiforרְאוּיִיםre/u/YIMworthyאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areלְהֵאָהֵבle/he/a/HEVto be belovedהֵןhenyeaוּרְאוּיִיםu/re/u/YIMand worthyהֱיִיתֶםhe/yi/TEMyou wereלְהִתְעוֹרֵרle/hit/o/RERto stir yourselves upבְּיֶתֶרbe/YE/terwith moreחֲרִיצוּתcha/ri/TSUTdiligenceלְטוֹבַתle/to/VATfor the welfare ofוּדְרוֹרu/de/RORand the freedomהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEof this peopleאַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdעֲזַבְתֶּםa/zav/TEMyou neglectedאוֹתָםo/TAMthemעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatדַּםdamthe bloodאֲלָפִיםa/la/FIMof thousandsיָבוֹאya/VOshall comeעַל־רָאשֵׁיכֶםal-ra/she/KHEMupon your headsלְנָקָםle/na/KAMfor vengeanceכִּיkiforיָדַעya/DAknewאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֶת־כׇּל־צַעֲקוֹתֵיהֶםet-kol-tsa/a/ko/te/HEMall their criesוְכׇל־עׇנְיָם׃ve/KHOL-on/YAMand all their affliction

    And now, my beloved brethren—for ye ought to be beloved; yea, and ye ought to have stirred yourselves more diligently for the welfare and the freedom of this people; but behold, ye have neglected them insomuch that the blood of thousands shall come upon your heads for vengeance; yea, for known unto God were all their cries, and all their sufferings—

    הֲתוּכְלוּha/tukh/LUcan youלַחְשֹׁבlach/SHOVto thinkכִּיkithatתֵשְׁבוּTESH/vuyou should sitעַל־כִּסְאוֹתֵיכֶםal-kis/o/te/KHEMupon your thronesוּמֵרֹבu/me/ROVand because of the abundanceחֶסֶדCHE/sedof the goodnessהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMof Godלֹאlonotתַעֲשׂוּta/a/SUyou doדָבָרda/VARa thingוְהוּאve/HUand heיַצִּילְכֶםyats/tsi/le/KHEMwould deliver youהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאִם־חֲשַׁבְתֶּםim-cha/shav/TEMif you supposedזֹאתzotthisלַשָּׁוְאlash/SHAVin vainחֲשַׁבְתֶּם׃cha/shav/TEMhave you supposed

    Behold, could ye suppose that ye could sit upon your thrones, and because of the exceeding goodness of God ye could do nothing and he would deliver you? Behold, if ye have supposed this ye have supposed in vain.

    הֲתַחְשְׁבוּha/tach/she/VUdo you supposeכִּיkithatנֶהֶרְגוּne/her/GUhave been killedרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyמֵאֲחֵיכֶםme/a/che/KHEMof your brethrenבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofרִשְׁעָתָםrish/a/TAMtheir wickednessאֹמֵרo/MERsayאֲנִיa/NIIלָכֶםla/KHEMunto youאִם־חֲשַׁבְתֶּםim-cha/shav/TEMif you supposedזֹאתzotthisלַשָּׁוְאlash/SHAVin vainחֲשַׁבְתֶּםcha/shav/TEMyou supposedכִּיkiforאֹמֵרo/MERsayאֲנִיa/NIIלָכֶםla/KHEMunto youרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyנָפְלוּna/fe/LUfellבַּחֶרֶבba/CHE/revby the swordוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdזֹאתzotthis isלְאַשְׁמַתְכֶם׃le/ash/mat/KHEMto your condemnation

    Do ye suppose that, because so many of your brethren have been killed it is because of their wickedness? I say unto you, if ye have supposed this ye have supposed in vain; for I say unto you, there are many who have fallen by the sword; and behold it is to your condemnation;

    כִּיkiforמַנִּיחַman/NI/achsuffersיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiלַצַּדִּיקִיםlats/tsad/di/KIMthe righteousלְהֵהָרֵגle/he/ha/REGto be slainלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיָבוֹאya/VOmay comeמִשְׁפָּטוֹmish/pa/TOhis judgmentוְצִדְקָתוֹve/tsid/ka/TOand his justiceעַל־הָרְשָׁעִיםal-ha/re/sha/IMupon the wickedלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeאַל־תַּחְשְׁבוּal-tach/she/VUyou need not supposeכִּיkithatאָבְדוּa/ve/DUare lostהַצַּדִּיקִיםhats/tsad/di/KIMthe righteousבְּהֵהָרְגָםbe/he/ha/re/GAMin their being slainכִּיkibutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבָּאִיםba/IMenterהֵםhemtheyאֶל־מְנוּחַתel-me/nu/CHATinto the restיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiאֱלֹהֵיהֶם׃e/lo/he/HEMtheir God

    For the Lord suffereth the righteous to be slain that his justice and judgment may come upon the wicked; therefore ye need not suppose that the righteous are lost because they are slain; but behold, they do enter into the rest of the Lord their God.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֹמֵרo/MERsayאֲנִיa/NIIלָכֶםla/KHEMunto youיָרֵאya/REfearאֲנִיa/NIIמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyפֶּן־יָבוֹאוּpen-ya/VO/ulest should comeמִשְׁפְּטֵיmish/pe/TEthe judgmentsאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godעַל־הָעָםal-ha/AMupon the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofעַצְלוּתָםats/lu/TAMtheir slothfulnessהָרַבָּהha/rab/BAexceedingאַףafyeaעַצְלוּתats/LUTthe slothfulnessמֶמְשַׁלְתֵּנוּmem/shal/te/NUof our governmentוַעֲזוּבָתָםva/a/zu/va/TAMand their neglectהַגְּדוֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAthe greatמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyאֶת־אֲחֵיהֶםet-a/che/HEMtowards their brethrenאַףafyeaאֶת־אֵלֶּהet-EL/letowards thoseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoנֶהֶרְגוּ׃ne/her/GUhave been slain

    And now behold, I say unto you, I fear exceedingly that the judgments of God will come upon this people, because of their exceeding slothfulness, yea, even the slothfulness of our government, and their exceedingly great neglect towards their brethren, yea, towards those who have been slain.

    For were it not for the wickedness which first commenced at our head, we could have withstood our enemies that they could have gained no power over us.

    Yea, had it not been for the war which broke out among ourselves; yea, were it not for these king-men, who caused so much bloodshed among ourselves; yea, at the time we were contending among ourselves, if we had united our strength as we hitherto have done; yea, had it not been for the desire of power and authority which those king-men had over us; had they been true to the cause of our freedom, and united with us, and gone forth against our enemies, instead of taking up their swords against us, which was the cause of so much bloodshed among ourselves; yea, if we had gone forth against them in the strength of the Lord, we should have dispersed our enemies, for it would have been done, according to the fulfilling of his word.

    אַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdעַתָּהat/TAnowהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesבָּאִיםba/IMare comingעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuupon usוְיוֹרְשִׁיםve/yor/SHIMand taking possessionאֶת־אַרְצוֹתֵינוּet-ar/tso/te/NUof our landsוְהוֹרְגִיםve/hor/GIMand they are murderingאֶת־עַמֵּנוּet-am/ME/nuour peopleבַּחֶרֶבba/CHE/revwith the swordאַףafyeaאֶת־נָשֵׁינוּet-na/SHE/nuour womenוְטַפֵּנוּve/tap/PE/nuand our childrenוְגַםve/GAMand alsoשׁוֹבִיםsho/VIMtaking captiveאוֹתָםo/TAMthemוּמְעַנִּיםu/me/an/NIMand afflictingאוֹתָםo/TAMthemבְּכׇל־מִינֵיbe/KHOL-mi/NEwith all mannerצָרוֹתtsa/ROTof afflictionsוְכׇל־זֹאתve/KHOL-zotand all thisבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofרִשְׁעַתrish/ATthe wickednessהַמְבַקְשִׁיםham/vak/SHIMof those who are seekingשְׂרָרָהse/ra/RApowerוּמֶמְשָׁלָהu/mem/sha/LAand authorityאַףafyeaאַנְשֵׁי־הַמֶּלֶךְan/SHE-ham/ME/lekhthe kingmenהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

    But behold, now the Lamanites are coming upon us, taking possession of our lands, and they are murdering our people with the sword, yea, our women and our children, and also carrying them away captive, causing them that they should suffer all manner of afflictions, and this because of the great wickedness of those who are seeking for power and authority, yea, even those king-men.

    אַךְakhbutלָמָּהLAM/mawhyאַרְבֶּהar/BEshould I multiplyלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERto speakבַּדָּבָרbad/da/VARconcerning the matterהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisכִּי־לֹאki-lofor notנֵדַעne/DAwe knowאִם־לֹאim-lowhetherאַתֶּםat/TEMyouמְבַקְשִׁיםme/vak/SHIMare seekingשִׁלְטוֹןshil/TONauthorityלֹאlonotנֵדַעne/DAwe knowאִם־לֹאim-lowhetherבּוֹגְדִיםbog/DIMtraitorsאַתֶּםat/TEMyouבְּאַרְצְכֶם׃be/ar/tse/KHEMto your country

    But why should I say much concerning this matter? For we know not but what ye yourselves are seeking for authority. We know not but what ye are also traitors to your country.

19. 19

    אוֹoorהַאִםha/IMis it thatעֲזַבְתֶּםa/zav/TEMyou neglectedאוֹתָנוּo/TA/nuusכִּיkibecauseאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areבְּלֵבbe/LEVin the heartהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the landוּבְטוּחִיםu/ve/tu/CHIMand secureמִסָּבִיבmis/sa/VIVround aboutוְלָכֵןve/la/KHENand thereforeלֹאlonotשְׁלַחְתֶּםshe/lach/TEMyou sentלָנוּLA/nuunto usאֹכֶלO/khelfoodוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenלְחַזֵּקle/chaz/ZEKto strengthenאֶת־צִבְאוֹתֵינוּ׃et-tsiv/o/te/NUour armies

    Or is it that ye have neglected us because ye are in the heart of our country and ye are surrounded by security, that ye do not cause food to be sent unto us, and also men to strengthen our armies?

20. 20

    הַשְׁכַחְתֶּםhash/khach/TEMhave you forgottenאֶת־מִצְוֹתet-mits/VOTthe commandmentsיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiאֱלֹהֵיכֶםe/lo/he/KHEMyour Godאַףafyeaהַשְׁכַחְתֶּםhash/khach/TEMhave you forgottenאֶת־שְׁבִיet-she/VIthe captivityאֲבוֹתֵינוּa/vo/TE/nuof our fathersהַשְׁכַחְתֶּםhash/khach/TEMhave you forgottenאֶת־הַפְּעָמִיםet-hap/pe/a/MIMthe timesהָרַבּוֹתha/rab/BOTmanyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatנִצַּלְנוּnits/TSAL/nuwe have been deliveredמִיַּדmiy/YADout of the handאוֹיְבֵינוּ׃oy/VE/nuof our enemies

    Have ye forgotten the commandments of the Lord your God? Yea, have ye forgotten the captivity of our fathers? Have ye forgotten the many times we have been delivered out of the hands of our enemies?

21. 21

    הֲתַחְשְׁבוּha/tach/she/VUdo you supposeכִּי־עוֹדki-odthat stillיַצִּילֵנוּyats/tsi/LE/nuwill deliver usיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiבְּעוֹדbe/ODwhileאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweיֹשְׁבִיםyosh/VIMsitעַל־כִּסְאוֹתֵינוּal-kis/o/te/NUupon our thronesוְלֹאve/LOand notנַעֲשֶׂהna/a/SEmake useבַּדְּבָרִיםbad/de/va/RIMof the meansאֲשֶׁר־נָתַןa/SHER-na/TANwhich gaveלָנוּLA/nufor usיְהוָה׃AdonaiAdonai

    Or do ye suppose that the Lord will still deliver us, while we sit upon our thrones and do not make use of the means which the Lord has provided for us?

22. 22

    הֲתֵשְׁבוּha/tesh/VUwill you sitבְּאֶפֶסbe/E/fesin nothingnessמַעֲשֶׂהma/a/SEof deedבְּעוֹדbe/ODwhileסְבִיבְכֶםse/vi/ve/KHEMround about youאֲלָפִיםa/la/FIMthousandsהֵןhenyeaוְרִבְבוֹתve/riv/VOTand tens of thousandsהַיּוֹשְׁבִיםhay/yosh/VIMwho sitגַּם־הֵםgam-hemthey alsoבְּאֶפֶסbe/E/fesin nothingnessמַעֲשֶׂהma/a/SEof deedבְּעוֹדbe/ODwhileאֲלָפִיםa/la/FIMthousandsבִּגְבוּלוֹתbig/vu/LOTin the bordersהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the landנֹפְלִיםnof/LIMare fallingבַּחֶרֶבba/CHE/revby the swordאַףafyeaפְּצוּעִיםpe/tsu/IMwoundedוְזָבֵיve/za/VEand flowing withדָם׃damblood

    Yea, will ye sit in idleness while ye are surrounded with thousands of those, yea, and tens of thousands, who do also sit in idleness, while there are thousands round about in the borders of the land who are falling by the sword, yea, wounded and bleeding?

23. 23

    הֲתַחְשְׁבוּha/tach/she/VUdo you supposeכִּיkithatיִרְאֶהyir/Ewill look uponאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodנְקִיִּיםne/kiy/YIMguiltlessבְּשִׁבְתְּכֶםbe/shiv/te/KHEMwhile you sitוּרְאוֹתְכֶםu/re/ot/KHEMand beholdאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֹמֵרo/MERsayאֲנִיa/NIIלָכֶםla/KHEMunto youלֹאlonayוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowחָפֵץcha/FETSdesireאֲנִיa/NIIכִּיkithatתִזְכְּרוּtiz/ke/RUyou should rememberכִּיkithatאָמַרa/MARsaidאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodכִּיkithatהַכְּלִיhak/ke/LIthe vesselהַפְּנִימִיhap/pe/ni/MIthe inwardיְטֹהַרye/to/HARshall be cleansedתְּחִלָּהte/chil/LAfirstוְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןve/a/cha/RE-khenand thenיְטֹהַרye/to/HARshall be cleansedגַּםgamalsoהַכְּלִיhak/ke/LIthe vesselהַחִיצוֹן׃ha/chi/TSONthe outer

    Do ye suppose that God will look upon you as guiltless while ye sit still and behold these things? Behold I say unto you, Nay. Now I would that ye should remember that God has said that the inward vessel shall be cleansed first, and then shall the outer vessel be cleansed also.

24. 24

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאִם־לֹאim-loexceptתָשׁוּבוּta/shu/VUyou repentמִמַּעֲשֵׂיכֶםmim/ma/a/se/KHEMof your deedsוְתָחֵלּוּve/ta/chel/LUand beginלָקוּםla/KUMto ariseוְלַעֲשׂוֹתve/la/a/SOTand to doוְתִשְׁלְחוּve/tish/le/CHUand send forthאֹכֶלO/khelfoodוַאֲנָשִׁיםva/a/na/SHIMand menאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nuunto usוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶל־הֵילָמָןel-HE/la/manunto Helamanלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיַחֲזִיקya/cha/ZIKhe may supportבְּחֶלְקֵיbe/chel/KEthe partsאַרְצֵנוּar/TSE/nuof our countryאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהֵשִׁיבhe/SHIVhe regainedוּלְמַעַןu/le/MA/anand thatנָשִׁיבna/SHIVwe may recoverגַּםgamalsoאֶת־יֶתֶרet-YE/terthe remainderאֲחֻזָּתֵנוּa/chuz/za/te/NUof our possessionsבַּמְּקוֹמוֹתbam/me/ko/MOTin the placesהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdנָכוֹןna/KHONit will be expedientכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notנִלָּחֵםnil/la/CHEMwe contendעוֹדodmoreבַּלָּמָנִיםbal/La/ma/NIMwith the Lamanitesעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERuntilנְטַהֵרne/ta/HERwe cleansedתְּחִלָּהte/chil/LAfirstאֶת־כֶּלְיֵנוּet-kel/ye/NUour vesselהַפְּנִימִיhap/pe/ni/MIthe inwardאַףafyeaאֶת־רֹאשׁet-roshthe headמֶמְשַׁלְתֵּנוּmem/shal/te/NUof our governmentהַגָּדוֹל׃hag/ga/DOLthe great

    And now, except ye do repent of that which ye have done, and begin to be up and doing, and send forth food and men unto us, and also unto Helaman, that he may support those parts of our country which he has regained, and that we may also recover the remainder of our possessions in these parts, behold it will be expedient that we contend no more with the Lamanites until we have first cleansed our inward vessel, yea, even the great head of our government.

25. 25

    וְאִם־לֹאve/IM-loand exceptתַּעֲנוּta/a/NUyou answerלְאִגַּרְתִּיle/ig/gar/TImy epistleוְתֵצְאוּve/tets/Uand come outוְתַרְאוּve/tar/Uand showלִיlimeרוּחַRU/acha spiritדְּרוֹרde/RORof freedomאֲמִתִּיתa/mit/TITtrueוְתִשְׁקְדוּve/tish/ke/DUand be diligentלְחַזֵּקle/chaz/ZEKto strengthenוּלְבַצֵּרu/le/vats/TSERand fortifyאֶת־צִבְאוֹתֵינוּet-tsiv/o/te/NUour armiesוְתִתְּנוּve/tit/te/NUand grantלָהֶםla/HEMthemאֹכֶלO/khelfoodלְמִחְיָתָםle/mich/ya/TAMfor their supportהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאַשְׁאִירash/IRI will leaveחֵלֶקCHE/leka partמִבְּנֵיmib/be/NEof the sonsהַחׇפְשִׁיםha/chof/SHIMof the freemenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho areלִיlimineלְהַחֲזִיקle/ha/cha/ZIKto maintainבְּחֵלֶקbe/CHE/lekin the partזֶהzethisמֵאַרְצֵנוּme/ar/TSE/nuof our landוְאַשְׁאִירve/ash/IRand I will leaveאֶת־כֹּחַet-KO/achthe strengthוּבִרְכַּתu/vir/KATand the blessingאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TIthat notיוּכַלyu/KHALmay be ableכֹּחַKO/achpowerאַחֵרa/CHERotherלִפְעֹלlif/OLto operateנֶגְדָּם׃neg/DAMagainst them

    And except ye grant mine epistle, and come out and show unto me a true spirit of freedom, and strive to strengthen and fortify our armies, and grant unto them food for their support, behold I will leave a part of my freemen to maintain this part of our land, and I will leave the strength and the blessings of God upon them, that none other power can operate against them—

26. 26

    וְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofאֱמוּנָתָםe/mu/na/TAMtheir faithהָרַבָּהha/rab/BAexceedingוְאֹרֶךְve/O/rekhand the lengthרוּחָםru/CHAMof their spiritבְּצָרוֹתֵיהֶם׃be/tsa/ro/te/HEMin their tribulations

    And this because of their exceeding faith, and their patience in their tribulations—

27. 27

    וּבָאתִיu/VA/tiand I will comeאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youוְאִם־יֵשׁve/IM-yeshand if there beבָּכֶםba/KHEMamong youמִיmianyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatחָפֵץcha/FETSdesiresבַּדְּרוֹרbad/de/RORfreedomאַףafyeaאִםimifנוֹתַרno/TARthere remainsאַףafevenנִיצוֹץni/TSOTSa sparkדְּרוֹרde/RORof freedomהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאָעִירa/IRI will stir upמֶרֶדME/redinsurrectionבֵּינֵיכֶםbe/ne/KHEMamong youעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHEReven untilיִכְלוּyikh/LUshall be consumedהַמְבַקְשִׁיםham/vak/SHIMthose who seekלִתְפֹּסlit/POSto seizeשְׂרָרָהse/ra/RApowerוּמֶמְשָׁלָה׃u/mem/sha/LAand authority

    And I will come unto you, and if there be any among you that has a desire for freedom, yea, if there be even a spark of freedom remaining, behold I will stir up insurrections among you, even until those who have desires to usurp power and authority shall become extinct.

28. 28

    הֵןhenyeaהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdלֹאlonotאִירָאi/RAI fearמִכֹּחֲכֶםmik/ko/cha/KHEMyour powerוּמִמֶּמְשַׁלְתְּכֶםu/mim/mem/shal/te/KHEMand your authorityכִּי־אִםki-imbutמֵאֱלֹהַיme/e/lo/HAYof my Godאֲנִיa/NIIיָרֵאya/REfearוּכְמִצְוֹתָיוu/khe/mits/vo/TAYVand according to his commandmentsאֶשָּׂאes/SAI take upאֶת־חַרְבִּיet-char/BImy swordלְהָגֵןle/ha/GENto defendעַל־דְּבַרal-de/VARthe causeאַרְצִיar/TSIof my countryוּבַעֲבוּרu/va/a/VURand becauseעֲוֹנְכֶםa/von/KHEMof your iniquityסָבַלְנוּsa/val/NUwe sufferedאׇבְדָןov/DANlossרַבravmuchכָּזֶה׃ka/ZEsuch

    Yea, behold I do not fear your power nor your authority, but it is my God whom I fear; and it is according to his commandments that I do take my sword to defend the cause of my country, and it is because of your iniquity that we have suffered so much loss.

29. 29

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהִגִּיעָהhig/gi/Acameהָעֵתha/ETthe timeאַףafyeaהָעֵתha/ETthe timeקְרוֹבָהke/ro/VAis nearמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyכִּי־אִםki-imthat ifלֹאlonotתִּתְעוֹרְרוּtit/or/RUbestir yourselvesלְהָגֵןle/ha/GENto defendעַל־אַרְצְכֶםal-ar/tse/KHEMyour countryוְטַפְּכֶםve/tap/pe/KHEMand your little onesחֶרֶבCHE/revthe swordהַצֶּדֶקhats/TSE/dekof justiceתְּלוּיָהte/lu/YAhangsמֵעֲלֵיכֶםme/a/le/KHEMover youהֵןhenyeaוְתִפֹּלve/tip/POLand it shall fallעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMupon youוּפָקְדָהu/fa/ke/DAand visitאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouעַד־כְּלוֹתְכֶם׃ad-ke/lot/KHEMeven to your destruction

    Behold it is time, yea, the time is now at hand, that except ye do bestir yourselves in the defence of your country and your little ones, the sword of justice doth hang over you; yea, and it shall fall upon you and visit you even to your utter destruction.

30. 30

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdמְחַכֶּהme/chak/KEwaitאֲנִיa/NIIלְעֶזְרַתְכֶםle/ez/rat/KHEMfor your assistanceוְאִם־לֹאve/IM-loand exceptתַעַזְרוּta/az/RUyou helpלִרְוָחָתֵנוּlir/va/cha/te/NUto our reliefהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאָבוֹאa/VOI comeאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the landזָרַהֶמְלָהZa/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemlaוְהִכֵּיתִיve/hik/ke/TIand I will smiteאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouבַּחֶרֶבba/CHE/revwith the swordעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERuntilלֹא־יִהְיֶהlo-yih/YEthere shall not beלָכֶםla/KHEMto youעוֹדodany moreכֹּחַKO/achpowerלַעֲצֹרla/a/TSORto impedeאֶת־דֶּרֶךְet-DE/rekhthe wayהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEof this peopleבִּדְבַרbid/VARin the causeדְּרוֹרֵנוּ׃de/ro/re/NUof our freedom

    Behold, I wait for assistance from you; and, except ye do administer unto our relief, behold, I come unto you, even in the land of Zarahemla, and smite you with the sword, insomuch that ye can have no more power to impede the progress of this people in the cause of our freedom.

31. 31

    כִּיkiforהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdלֹא־יִתֵּןlo-yit/TENwill not sufferיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiכִּיkithatתִחְיוּtich/YUyou shall liveוְתִתְחַזְּקוּve/tit/chaz/ze/KUand wax strongבַּעֲוֹנֹתֵיכֶםba/a/vo/no/te/KHEMin your iniquitiesלְהַשְׁמִידle/hash/MIDto destroyאֶת־עַמּוֹet-am/MOhis peopleהַצַּדִּיק׃hats/tsad/DIKthe righteous

    For behold, the Lord will not suffer that ye shall live and wax strong in your iniquities to destroy his righteous people.

32. 32

    הֲתַחְשְׁבוּha/tach/she/VUdo you supposeכִּיkithatיַחְמֹלyach/MOLwill spareעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMyouיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiוְיֵצֵאve/ye/TSEand come outלְמִשְׁפָּטle/mish/PATin judgmentנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenמָסֹרֶתma/SO/retthe traditionאֲבוֹתָםa/vo/TAMof their fathersהֵבִיאָהhe/VI/acausedאֶת־שִׂנְאָתָםet-sin/a/TAMtheir hatredהֵןhenyeaוְהֻכְפְּלָהve/hukh/pe/LAand it has been redoubledבְּיַדbe/YADbyהַפּוֹרְשִׁיםhap/por/SHIMthose who dissentedמֵאִתָּנוּme/it/TA/nufrom usבְּעוֹדbe/ODwhileעֲוֹנְכֶםa/von/KHEMyour iniquityהוּאhuisבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURforאַהֲבַתa/ha/VATthe loveכְּבוֹדְכֶםke/vod/KHEMof your gloryוְהַבְלֵיve/hav/LEand the vain thingsהָעוֹלָם׃ha/o/LAMof the world

    Behold, can you suppose that the Lord will spare you and come out in judgment against the Lamanites, when it is the tradition of their fathers that has caused their hatred, yea, and it has been redoubled by those who have dissented from us, while your iniquity is for the cause of your love of glory and the vain things of the world?

33. 33

    יוֹדְעִיםyod/IMknowאַתֶּםat/TEMyouכִּיkithatעוֹבְרִיםov/RIMare transgressingאַתֶּםat/TEMyouעַל־תּוֹרוֹתal-to/ROTthe lawsאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godוְיוֹדְעִיםve/yod/IMand knowאַתֶּםat/TEMyouכִּיkithatרוֹמְסִיםrom/SIMtrampleאַתֶּםat/TEMyouאוֹתָןo/TANthemבְּרַגְלֵיכֶםbe/rag/le/KHEMunder your feetהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאָמַרa/MARsaithאֵלַיe/LAYunto meיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאִם־לֹאim-loif notיָשׁוּבוּya/SHU/vuthey repentמֵחַטֹּאתָםme/chat/to/TAMof their sinsוַעֲוֹנֹתֵיהֶםva/a/vo/no/te/HEMand iniquitiesאֵלֶּהEL/lethoseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomהִפְקַדְתֶּםhif/kad/TEMyou appointedלִמְשֹׁלlim/SHOLto governתַּעֲלוּta/a/LUyou shall go upלַמִּלְחָמָהlam/mil/cha/MAto battleנֶגְדָּם׃neg/DAMagainst them

    Ye know that ye do transgress the laws of God, and ye do know that ye do trample them under your feet. Behold, the Lord saith unto me: If those whom ye have appointed your governors do not repent of their sins and iniquities, ye shall go up to battle against them.

34. 34

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֲנִיa/NIIמוֹרוֹנִיMo/RO/niMoroniמְאֻלָּץme/ul/LATSam constrainedכְּפִיke/FIaccording toהַבְּרִיתhab/be/RITthe covenantאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichכָּרַתִּיka/RAT/tiI madeלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto keepאֶת־מִצְוֹתet-mits/VOTthe commandmentsאֱלֹהָיe/lo/HAYof my Godלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeחָפַצְתִּיcha/FATS/tiI wouldכִּיkithatתִדְבְּקוּtid/be/KUyou should adhereבִּדְבַרbid/VARto the wordאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godוְתִשְׁלְחוּve/tish/le/CHUand sendבִּמְהֵרָהbim/he/RAspeedilyמִצֵּידַתְכֶםmits/tse/dat/KHEMof your provisionsוּמֵאַנְשֵׁיכֶםu/me/an/she/KHEMand of your menאֵלַיe/LAYunto meוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶל־הֵילָמָן׃el-HE/la/manunto Helaman

    And now behold, I, Moroni, am constrained, according to the covenant which I have made to keep the commandments of my God; therefore I would that ye should adhere to the word of God, and send speedily unto me of your provisions and of your men, and also to Helaman.

    And behold, if ye will not do this I come unto you speedily; for behold, God will not suffer that we should perish with hunger; therefore he will give unto us of your food, even if it must be by the sword. Now see that ye fulfil the word of God.

    Behold, I am Moroni, your chief captain. I seek not for power, but to pull it down. I seek not for honor of the world, but for the glory of my God, and the freedom and welfare of my country. And thus I close mine epistle.
