   And now it came to pass in the commencement of the twenty and ninth year of the judges, that Ammoron sent unto Moroni desiring that he would exchange prisoners.

   And it came to pass that Moroni felt to rejoice exceedingly at this request, for he desired the provisions which were imparted for the support of the Lamanite prisoners for the support of his own people; and he also desired his own people for the strengthening of his army.

   Now the Lamanites had taken many women and children, and there was not a woman nor a child among all the prisoners of Moroni, or the prisoners whom Moroni had taken; therefore Moroni resolved upon a stratagem to obtain as many prisoners of the Nephites from the Lamanites as it were possible.

   Therefore he wrote an epistle, and sent it by the servant of Ammoron, the same who had brought an epistle to Moroni. Now these are the words which he wrote unto Ammoron, saying:

   הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdעַמּוֹרוֹןAM/mo/ronAmmoronכָּתַבְתִּיka/TAV/tiI wroteאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khaunto youדָּבָרda/VARsomewhatעַל־הַמִּלְחָמָהal-ham/mil/cha/MAconcerning the warהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichעָרַכְתָּa/rakh/TAyou wagedנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstעַמִּיam/MImy peopleאוֹoorיוֹתֵרyo/TERmoreנָכוֹןna/KHONrightlyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichעָרַךְa/RAKHwagedאָחִיךָa/CHI/khayour brotherנֶגְדָּםneg/DAMagainst themוַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand whichאַתָּהat/TAyouעוֹדodstillנָכוֹןna/KHONare determinedלַעֲרֹךְla/a/ROKHto carry onאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterמוֹתוֹ׃mo/TOhis death

   Behold, Ammoron, I have written unto you somewhat concerning this war which ye have waged against my people, or rather which thy brother hath waged against them, and which ye are still determined to carry on after his death.

   Behold, I would tell you somewhat concerning the justice of God, and the sword of his almighty wrath, which doth hang over you except ye repent and withdraw your armies into your own lands, or the land of your possessions, which is the land of Nephi.

   Yea, I would tell you these things if ye were capable of hearkening unto them; yea, I would tell you concerning that awful hell that awaits to receive such murderers as thou and thy brother have been, except ye repent and withdraw your murderous purposes, and return with your armies to your own lands.

   אַךְakhbutכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasמְאַסְתֶּםme/as/TEMyou rejectedפַּעַםPA/amtimeאַחַתa/CHAToneאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַתִּלָּחֲמוּvat/til/la/cha/MUand foughtבְּעַםbe/AMagainst the peopleיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiכֵּןkeneven soאֲצַפֶּהa/tsap/PEI may expectכִּיkithatתַּעֲשׂוּta/a/SUyou will do itעוֹד׃odagain

   But as ye have once rejected these things, and have fought against the people of the Lord, even so I may expect you will do it again.

9. 9

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdנְכוֹנִיםne/kho/NIMpreparedאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuwe areלְקַבֶּלְכֶםle/kab/bel/KHEMto receive youוּבִלְתִּיu/vil/TIyea and exceptאִם־תָּסִירוּim-ta/si/RUyou withdrawאֶת־מְזִמּוֹתֵיכֶםet-me/zim/mo/te/KHEMyour purposesהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdתּוֹרִידוּto/ri/DUyou will pull downעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMupon youאֶת־חֲרוֹןet-cha/RONthe wrathהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMof the Godאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomמְאַסְתֶּםme/as/TEMyou rejectedבּוֹboin himעַד־הִשָּׁמֶדְכֶם׃ad-hish/sha/med/KHEMeven to your destruction

   And now behold, we are prepared to receive you; yea, and except you withdraw your purposes, behold, ye will pull down the wrath of that God whom you have rejected upon you, even to your utter destruction.

    אַךְakhbutחַי־יְהוָהchay-Adonaias Adonai livesיָבֹאוּya/VO/ushall comeצִבְאוֹתֵינוּtsiv/o/te/NUour armiesעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMupon youבִּלְתִּיbil/TIexceptאִם־תָּסוֹגוּim-ta/so/GUyou withdrawוְתִפָּקְדוּve/tip/pa/ke/DUand you shall be visitedמְהֵרָהme/he/RAsoonבַּמָּוֶתbam/MA/vetwith deathכִּיkiforנַחֲזִיקna/cha/ZIKwe will retainבְּעָרֵינוּbe/a/re/NUour citiesוּבְאַרְצוֹתֵינוּu/ve/ar/tso/te/NUand our landsוְנִשְׁמֹרve/nish/MORand we will maintainאֶת־דָּתֵנוּet-da/te/NUour religionוְאֶת־דֶּרֶךְve/ET-DE/rekhand the causeאֱלֹהֵינוּ׃e/lo/HE/nuof our God

    But, as the Lord liveth, our armies shall come upon you except ye withdraw, and ye shall soon be visited with death, for we will retain our cities and our lands; yea, and we will maintain our religion and the cause of our God.

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֲנִיa/NIIחוֹשֵׁבcho/SHEVsupposeכִּיkithatלַשָּׁוְאlash/SHAVin vainאֲדַבֵּרa/dab/BERI speakאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khaunto youעַל־הַדְּבָרִיםal-had/de/va/RIMconcerning the thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseאוֹoorחוֹשֵׁבcho/SHEVsupposeאֲנִיa/NIIכִּיkithatבֶּן־שְׁאוֹלben-she/OLa child of hellאָתָּהAT/taare youלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeאֶחְתֹּםech/TOMI will closeאֶת־אִגַּרְתִּיet-ig/gar/TImy epistleלֵאמֹרle/MORby tellingכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notאָמִירa/MIRI will exchangeשְׁבוּיִיםshe/vu/YIMprisonersבִּלְתִּיbil/TIsaveאִם־תִּתְּנוּim-tit/te/NUyou deliver upאִישׁisha manוְאִשְׁתּוֹve/ish/TOand his wifeוִילָדָיוvi/la/DAYVand his childrenתַּחַתTA/chatforשָׁבוּיsha/VUYprisonerאֶחָדe/CHADoneאִם־תַּעֲשׂוּim-ta/a/SUif you will doכֵןkhensoאָמִיר׃a/MIRI will exchange

    But behold, it supposeth me that I talk to you concerning these things in vain; or it supposeth me that thou art a child of hell; therefore I will close my epistle by telling you that I will not exchange prisoners, save it be on conditions that ye will deliver up a man and his wife and his children, for one prisoner; if this be the case that ye will do it, I will exchange.

12. 12

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאִם־לֹאim-loif notתַעֲשׂוּta/a/SUyou doזֹאתzotthisאָבוֹאa/VOI will comeעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMupon youעִם־צִבְאוֹתַיim-tsiv/o/TAYwith my armiesאַףafyeaאֶחְגֹּרech/GORI will armגַּםgamevenאֶת־נָשַׁיet-na/SHAYmy womenוְטַפִּיve/tap/PIand my childrenנֶשֶׁקNE/shekwith armsוְאָבוֹאve/a/VOand I will comeעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMupon youוְאֶרְדֹּףve/er/DOFand I will followאַחֲרֵיכֶםa/cha/re/KHEMafter youעַד־אַרְצְכֶםad-ar/tse/KHEMeven into your landהִיאhiwhich isאֶרֶץE/retsthe landנַחֲלָתֵנוּna/cha/la/TE/nuof our inheritanceהָרִאשׁוֹנָהha/ri/sho/NAfirstהֵןhenyeaוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beדָםdambloodתַּחַתTA/chatforדָםdambloodנֶפֶשׁNE/feshlifeתַּחַתTA/chatforנָפֶשׁNA/feshlifeוְאֶלָּחֵםve/el/la/CHEMand I will fightבָּכֶםba/KHEMagainst youעַדadeven untilהִשָּׁמֶדְכֶםhish/sha/med/KHEMyou are destroyedמֵעַלme/ALfrom offפְּנֵיpe/NEthe faceהָאֲדָמָה׃ha/a/da/MAof the earth

    And behold, if ye do not this, I will come against you with my armies; yea, even I will arm my women and my children, and I will come against you, and I will follow you even into your own land, which is the land of our first inheritance; yea, and it shall be blood for blood, yea, life for life; and I will give you battle even until you are destroyed from off the face of the earth.

    Behold, I am in my anger, and also my people; ye have sought to murder us, and we have only sought to defend ourselves. But behold, if ye seek to destroy us more we will seek to destroy you; yea, and we will seek our land, the land of our first inheritance.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאֶחְתֹּםech/TOMI closeאֶת־אִגַּרְתִּיet-ig/gar/TImy epistleאֲנִיa/NIIמוֹרוֹנִיMo/RO/niam Moroniאֲנִיa/NIIרֹאשׁrosham a leaderעַםamof the peopleהַנֶּפִיִּים׃han/Ne/fiy/YIMof the Nephites

    Now I close my epistle. I am Moroni; I am a leader of the people of the Nephites.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenקִבֵּלkib/BELreceivedעַמּוֹרוֹןAM/mo/ronAmmoronאֶת־הָאִגֶּרֶתet-ha/ig/GE/retthe epistleהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוַיִּקְצֹףvay/yik/TSOFhe was angryוַיִּכְתֹּבvay/yikh/TOVand he wroteאִגֶּרֶתig/GE/retan epistleאַחֶרֶתa/CHE/retanotherאֶל־מוֹרוֹנִיel-Mo/RO/niunto Moroniוְאֵלֶּהve/EL/leand theseהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMare the wordsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichכָּתַבka/TAVhe wroteלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    Now it came to pass that Ammoron, when he had received this epistle, was angry; and he wrote another epistle unto Moroni, and these are the words which he wrote, saying:

    אֲנִיa/NIIעַמּוֹרוֹןAM/mo/ronam AmmoronמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe kingהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesאֲנִיa/NIIאֲחִיa/CHIam the brotherאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaof Amalickiahאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomהֲרַגְתֶּםha/rag/TEMyou murderedהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֶנְקֹםen/KOMI will avengeאֶת־דָּמוֹet-da/MOhis bloodבָּכֶםba/KHEMupon youהֵןhenyeaוְאָבוֹאve/a/VOand I will comeעֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMupon youעִם־צִבְאוֹתַיim-tsiv/o/TAYwith my armiesכִּי־לֹאki-lofor notאִירָאi/RAI fearמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofגַּעֲרוֹתֵיכֶם׃ga/a/ro/te/KHEMyour threatenings

    I am Ammoron, the king of the Lamanites; I am the brother of Amalickiah whom ye have murdered. Behold, I will avenge his blood upon you, yea, and I will come upon you with my armies for I fear not your threatenings.

    כִּיkiforהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdעָשְׁקוּASH/kuwrongedאֲבוֹתֵיכֶםa/vo/te/KHEMyour fathersאֶת־אֲחֵיהֶםet-a/che/HEMtheir brethrenעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatגָּזְלוּga/ze/LUthey robbedמֵהֶםme/HEMfrom themאֶת־מִשְׁפַּטet-mish/PATthe rightהַמֶּמְשָׁלָהham/mem/sha/LAof the governmentאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהָיְתָהha/ye/TAbelongedלָהֶםla/HEMunto themבְּצֶדֶק׃be/TSE/dekrightly

    For behold, your fathers did wrong their brethren, insomuch that they did rob them of their right to the government when it rightly belonged unto them.

18. 18

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאִם־תַּנִּיחוּim-tan/ni/CHUif you will lay downאֶת־נִשְׁקְכֶםet-nish/ke/KHEMyour armsוְתִכָּנְעוּve/tik/ka/ne/Uand subject yourselvesתַּחַתTA/chatunderיַדyadthe handאֲשֶׁרa/SHERof those to whomלָהֶםla/HEMbelongsהַמֶּמְשָׁלָהham/mem/sha/LAthe governmentבְּצֶדֶקbe/TSE/dekrightlyאָזazthenאֲצַוֶּהa/tsav/VEI will commandכִּיkithatיַנִּיחַyan/NI/achshall lay downעַמִּיam/MImy peopleאֶת־כְּלֵיet-ke/LEthe weaponsנִשְׁקָםnish/KAMof their armsוְלֹא־יִהְיוּve/LO-yih/YUand shall not beעוֹדodany moreבְּמִלְחָמָה׃be/mil/cha/MAat war

    And now behold, if ye will lay down your arms, and subject yourselves to be governed by those to whom the government doth rightly belong, then will I cause that my people shall lay down their weapons and shall be at war no more.

19. 19

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdנְפַחְתֶּםne/fach/TEMyou breathed outגְּעָרוֹתge/a/ROTthreateningsרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyנֶגְדִּיneg/DIagainst meוְנֶגֶדve/NE/gedand againstעַמִּיam/MImy peopleאַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdלֹאlonotנִירָאNI/rawe fearמִגַּעֲרוֹתֵיכֶם׃mig/ga/a/ro/te/KHEMyour threatenings

    Behold, ye have breathed out many threatenings against me and my people; but behold, we fear not your threatenings.

    אַךְakhneverthelessאוֹאִילo/ILI will grantלְהָמִירle/ha/MIRto exchangeשְׁבוּיִיםshe/vu/YIMprisonersכְּבַקָּשָׁתְךָke/vak/ka/sha/te/KHAaccording to your requestבְּשִׂמְחָהbe/sim/CHAgladlyלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatאֶשְׁמֹרesh/MORI may preserveאֶת־מְזוֹנִיet-me/zo/NImy foodלְאַנְשֵׁיle/an/SHEfor the menהַמִּלְחָמָהham/mil/cha/MAof warוְנַעֲרֹךְve/na/a/ROKHand we will wageמִלְחֶמֶתmil/CHE/meta warעוֹלָםo/LAMeternalעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERuntilיִכָּנְעוּyik/ka/ne/Ube subjectedהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe NephitesתַּחַתTA/chatunderיָדֵנוּya/DE/nuour handאוֹoorעַדaduntoהִכָּרְתָםhik/ka/re/TAMtheir extinctionלָנֶצַח׃la/NE/tsachforever

    Nevertheless, I will grant to exchange prisoners according to your request, gladly, that I may preserve my food for my men of war; and we will wage a war which shall be eternal, either to the subjecting the Nephites to our authority or to their eternal extinction.

    And as concerning that God whom ye say we have rejected, behold, we know not such a being; neither do ye; but if it so be that there is such a being, we know not but that he hath made us as well as you.

    וְאִם־יֵשׁve/IM-yeshand if there isשָׂטָןsa/TANa devilוּשְׁאוֹלu/she/OLand a hellהֲלֹאha/LOwill he notיִשְׁלַחyish/LACHsendאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathereלָשֶׁבֶתla/SHE/vetto dwellעִם־אָחִיim-a/CHIwith my brotherאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomהֲרַגְתֶּםha/rag/TEMyou murderedאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomאֲמַרְתֶּםa/mar/TEMyou saidכִּיkithatהָלַךְha/LAKHwentלְמָקוֹםle/ma/KOMto a placeכָּזֶהka/ZEsuchאַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseאַחַתa/CHAToneהִיא׃hiit is

    And if it so be that there is a devil and a hell, behold will he not send you there to dwell with my brother whom ye have murdered, whom ye have hinted that he hath gone to such a place? But behold these things matter not.

    I am Ammoron, and a descendant of Zoram, whom your fathers pressed and brought out of Jerusalem.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֲנִיa/NIIלָמָנִיLA/Ma/niam a Lamaniteעַז־נֶפֶשׁaz-NE/feshbold of soulהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהַמִּלְחָמָהham/mil/cha/MAthe warהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisנֶעֶשְׂתָהne/es/TAhas been wagedלִנְקֹםlin/KOMto avengeאֶת־עׇשְׁקָםet-osh/KAMtheir wrongsוּלְהַחֲזִיקu/le/ha/cha/ZIKand to maintainוּלְהַשִּׂיגu/le/has/SIGand to obtainאֶת־מִשְׁפַּטet-mish/PATthe rightהַמֶּמְשָׁלָהham/mem/sha/LAof the governmentוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iחוֹתֵםcho/TEMcloseאֶת־אִגַּרְתִּיet-ig/gar/TImy epistleלְמוֹרוֹנִי׃le/Mo/RO/nito Moroni

    And behold now, I am a bold Lamanite; behold, this war hath been waged to avenge their wrongs, and to maintain and to obtain their rights to the government; and I close my epistle to Moroni.
