   O that I were an angel, and could have the wish of mine heart, that I might go forth and speak with the trump of God, with a voice to shake the earth, and cry repentance unto every people!

   הֵןhenyeaוְאַגִּידָהve/ag/GI/daI would declareלְכׇל־נֶפֶשׁle/KHOL-NE/feshunto every soulכְּקוֹלke/KOLas with the voiceרַעַםRA/amof thunderתְּשׁוּבָהte/shu/VArepentanceוַעֲצַתva/a/TSATand the planהַגְּאֻלָּהhag/ge/ul/LAof redemptionלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיָשׁוּבוּya/SHU/vuthey should repentוְיָבֹאוּve/ya/VO/uand comeאֶל־אֱלֹהֵינוּel-e/lo/HE/nuunto our Godוְלֹא־יִהְיֶהve/LO-yih/YEthat there might not beעוֹדodmoreיָגוֹןya/GONsorrowעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEupon the faceכׇל־הָאָרֶץ׃khol-ha/A/retsof all the earth

   Yea, I would declare unto every soul, as with the voice of thunder, repentance and the plan of redemption, that they should repent and come unto our God, that there might not be more sorrow upon all the face of the earth.

   אַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאָדָםa/DAMa manאֲנִיa/NII amוְחוֹטֵאve/cho/TEand sinאֲנִיa/NIIבְּמִשְׁאֲלָתִיbe/mish/a/la/TIin my wishכִּיkiforעָלַיa/LAYI oughtלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beשָׂמֵחַsa/ME/achcontentבַּאֲשֶׁרba/a/SHERwith that whichחָלַקcha/LAKallottedלִיliunto meיְהוָה׃AdonaiAdonai

   But behold, I am a man, and do sin in my wish; for I ought to be content with the things which the Lord hath allotted unto me.

   I ought not to harrow up in my desires the firm decree of a just God, for I know that he granteth unto men according to their desire, whether it be unto death or unto life; yea, I know that he allotteth unto men, yea, decreeth unto them decrees which are unalterable, according to their wills, whether they be unto salvation or unto destruction.

   Yea, and I know that good and evil have come before all men; he that knoweth not good from evil is blameless; but he that knoweth good and evil, to him it is given according to his desires, whether he desireth good or evil, life or death, joy or remorse of conscience.

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAnowבְּדַעְתִּיbe/da/TIseeing that I knowאֶת־אֵלֶּהet-EL/lethese thingsלָמָּהLAM/mawhyאֶתְאַוֶּהet/av/VEshould I desireיוֹתֵרyo/TERmoreמֵעֲשׂוֹתme/a/SOTthan to performאֶת־הַמְּלָאכָהet-ham/me/la/KHAthe workאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichקֹרֵאתִיko/re/TII have been calledלָהּ׃launto it

   Now, seeing that I know these things, why should I desire more than to perform the work to which I have been called?

   לָמָּהLAM/mawhyאֶתְאַוֶּהet/av/VEshould I wishלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beמַלְאָךְmal/AKHan angelלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERto speakאֶל־כׇּל־קְצוֹתel-kol-ke/TSOTunto all the endsהָאָרֶץ׃ha/A/retsof the earth

   Why should I desire that I were an angel, that I could speak unto all the ends of the earth?

   כִּיkiforהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdיִתֵּןyit/TENgrantsיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiלְכׇל־הַגּוֹיִםle/KHOL-hag/go/YIMunto all nationsמִבְּנֵיmib/be/NEof the childrenעַמָּםam/MAMof their nationוּלְשׁוֹנָםu/le/sho/NAMand their tongueלְלַמֵּדle/lam/MEDto teachאֶת־דְּבָרוֹet-de/va/ROhis wordאַףafyeaבְּחׇכְמָהbe/chokh/MAin wisdomכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרkol-a/SHERall thatיִרְאֶהyir/Ehe seesטוֹבtovfitלָתֵתla/TETto giveלָהֶםla/HEMthemלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeנִרְאֶהnir/Ewe seeכִּיkithatיוֹעֵץyo/ETScounselsיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiבְּחׇכְמָהbe/chokh/MAin wisdomכְּפִיke/FIaccording toצֶדֶקTSE/dekjusticeוֶאֱמֶת׃ve/e/METand truth

   For behold, the Lord doth grant unto all nations, of their own nation and tongue, to teach his word, yea, in wisdom, all that he seeth fit that they should have; therefore we see that the Lord doth counsel in wisdom, according to that which is just and true.

   יָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERthat whichצִוַּנִיtsiv/VA/nicommanded meיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiוְאֶתְהַלֵּלve/et/hal/LELand I gloryבּוֹboin itלֹאloI do notאֶתְהַלֵּלet/hal/LELgloryבְּנַפְשִׁיbe/naf/SHIof myselfכִּי־אִםki-imbutאֶתְהַלֵּלet/hal/LELI gloryבַּאֲשֶׁרba/a/SHERin that whichצִוַּנִיtsiv/VA/nicommanded meיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiהֵןhenyeaוְזֹאתve/ZOTand this isתְּהִלָּתִיte/hil/la/TImy gloryאוּלַיu/LAYthat perhapsיַעֲשֵׂנִיya/a/se/NImay make meאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodכְּלִיke/LIan instrumentבְּיָדוֹbe/ya/DOin his handsלְהָשִׁיבle/ha/SHIVto bring to repentanceנֶפֶשׁNE/feshsome soulוְזֹאתve/ZOTand this isשִׂמְחָתִי׃sim/cha/TImy joy

   I know that which the Lord hath commanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdבִּרְאוֹתִיbir/o/TIwhen I seeרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyמֵאַחַיme/a/CHAYof my brethrenשָׁבִיםsha/VIMpenitentבֶּאֱמֶתbe/e/METtrulyוּבָאִיםu/va/IMand comingאֶל־יְהוָהel-Adonaito Adonaiאֱלֹהֵיהֶםe/lo/he/HEMtheir Godאָזazthenתִּמָּלֵאtim/ma/LEis filledנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHImy soulשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAwith joyאָזazthenאֶזְכֹּרez/KORdo I rememberאֶת־אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהet-a/SHER-a/SAwhat didלִיlifor meיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאַףafyeaכִּיkieven thatשָׁמַעsha/MAhe heardאֶת־תְּפִלָּתִיet-te/fil/la/TImy prayerאָזazthenאֶזְכֹּרez/KORdo I rememberזְרוֹעַze/RO/athe armחַסְדּוֹchas/DOof his mercyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנָטָהna/TAhe extendedאֵלָי׃e/LAYtowards me

    And behold, when I see many of my brethren truly penitent, and coming to the Lord their God, then is my soul filled with joy; then do I remember what the Lord has done for me, yea, even that he hath heard my prayer; yea, then do I remember his merciful arm which he extended towards me.

    הֵןhenyeaוְאֶזְכֹּרve/ez/KORand I rememberאֶת־שִׁבְיַתet-shiv/YATthe captivityאֲבוֹתַיa/vo/TAYof my fathersכִּיkiforיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowאׇמְנָםom/NAMsurelyכִּיkithatהִצִּילָםhits/tsi/LAMdelivered themיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiמֵעַבְדוּתme/av/DUTout of bondageוּבָזֹאתu/va/ZOTand by thisהֵקִיםhe/KIMestablishedאֶת־עֲדָתוֹet-a/da/TOhis churchאַףafyeaיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe GodאַבְרָהָםAv/ra/HAMof Abrahamאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe GodיִצְחָקYits/CHAKof Isaacוֵאלֹהֵיve/lo/HEand the GodיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVof Jacobהִצִּילָםhits/tsi/LAMdelivered themמֵעַבְדוּת׃me/av/DUTout of bondage

    Yea, and I also remember the captivity of my fathers; for I surely do know that the Lord did deliver them out of bondage, and by this did establish his church; yea, the Lord God, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, did deliver them out of bondage.

    הֵןhenyeaזָכַרְתִּיza/KHAR/tiI rememberedתָמִידta/MIDalwaysאֶת־שִׁבְיַתet-shiv/YATthe captivityאֲבוֹתַיa/vo/TAYof my fathersוְהָאֱלֹהִיםve/ha/e/lo/HIMand the Godהַהוּאha/HUthat sameאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהִצִּילָםhits/tsi/LAMdelivered themמִיַּדmiy/YADout of the handsמִצְרַיִםMits/RA/yimof the Egyptiansהוּאhuheהִצִּילָםhits/tsi/LAMdelivered themמֵעַבְדוּת׃me/av/DUTout of bondage

    Yea, I have always remembered the captivity of my fathers; and that same God who delivered them out of the hands of the Egyptians did deliver them out of bondage.

    הֵןhenyeaוְהָאֱלֹהִיםve/ha/e/lo/HIMand the Godהַהוּאha/HUthat sameהֵקִיםhe/KIMestablishedאֶת־עֲדָתוֹet-a/da/TOhis churchבְּקִרְבָּםbe/kir/BAMamong themהֵןhenyeaוְהָאֱלֹהִיםve/ha/e/lo/HIMand the Godהַהוּאha/HUthat sameקְרָאַנִיke/ra/a/NIcalled meבִּקְרִיאָהbik/ri/Aby a callingקְדוֹשָׁהke/do/SHAholyלִקְרֹאlik/ROto preachדְּבָרוֹde/va/ROhis wordלָעָםla/AMunto the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוַיִּתֶּן־לִיvay/YIT/ten-liand gave meהַצְלָחָהhats/la/CHAsuccessרַבָּהrab/BAmuchאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבָּהּbain itמָלְאָהma/le/Ais fullשִׂמְחָתִי׃sim/cha/TImy joy

    Yea, and that same God did establish his church among them; yea, and that same God hath called me by a holy calling, to preach the word unto this people, and hath given me much success, in the which my joy is full.

    אַךְakhbutלֹאloI do notאֶשְׂמַחes/MACHjoyבְּהַצְלָחָתִיbe/hats/la/cha/TIin my own successלְבַדִּיle/vad/DIaloneכִּיkibutתִּמָּלֵאtim/ma/LEis fullשִׂמְחָתִיsim/cha/TImy joyיוֹתֵרyo/TERmoreבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofהַצְלָחַתhats/la/CHATthe successאַחַיa/CHAYof my brethrenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoעָלוּa/LUwent upאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsto the landנֶפִי׃NE/fiof Nephi

    But I do not joy in my own success alone, but my joy is more full because of the success of my brethren, who have been up to the land of Nephi.

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdעָמְלוּa/me/LUthey laboredעַד־מְאֹדad-me/ODexceedinglyוַיָּבִיאוּvay/ya/VI/uand brought forthפְּרִיpe/RIfruitרָבravmuchוּמַה־גָּדוֹלu/MA-ga/DOLand how greatיִהְיֶהyih/YEshall beשְׂכָרָם׃se/kha/RAMtheir reward

    Behold, they have labored exceedingly, and have brought forth much fruit; and how great shall be their reward!

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAnowבְּחׇשְׁבִיbe/chosh/VIwhen I thinkעַלalofהַצְלָחַתhats/la/CHATthe successאַחַיa/CHAYof my brethrenאֵלֶּהEL/letheseתִּנָּשֵׂאtin/na/SEis carried awayנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHImy soulעַדadeven toכְּהִפָּרְדָהּke/hip/pa/re/DAas it were its separationמִןminfromהַגְּוִיָּהhag/ge/viy/YAthe bodyכִּיkisoגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreat isשִׂמְחָתִי׃sim/cha/TImy joy

    Now, when I think of the success of these my brethren my soul is carried away, even to the separation of it from the body, as it were, so great is my joy.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowיִתֵּןyit/TENmay grantהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodלְאַחַיle/a/CHAYunto my brethrenאֵלֶּהEL/letheseלָשֶׁבֶתla/SHE/vetthat they may sit downבְּמַלְכוּתbe/mal/KHUTin the kingdomהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMof Godהֵןhenyeaוְגַםve/GAMand alsoלְכׇלle/KHOLunto allפְּרִיpe/RIthe fruitעֲמָלָםa/ma/LAMof their laborsלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TIthat they may notיֵצְאוּyets/Ugo outעוֹדodmoreוִיהַלְלוּהוּvi/hal/lu/HUbut that they may praise himלְעוֹלָםle/o/LAMforeverוְיִתֵּןve/yit/TENand may grantאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodכִּיkithatיֵעָשֶׂהye/a/SEit may be doneכִדְבָרַיkhid/va/RAYaccording to my wordsכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHEReven asדִּבַּרְתִּיdib/BAR/tiI spokeאָמֵן׃a/MENAmen

    And now may God grant unto these, my brethren, that they may sit down in the kingdom of God; yea, and also all those who are the fruit of their labors that they may go no more out, but that they may praise him forever. And may God grant that it may be done according to my words, even as I have spoken. Amen.
