   אַל־תִּתְהַלֵּלal-tit/hal/LELdo not boastבְּיוֹםbe/YOMof the day ofמָחָרma/CHARtomorrowכִּיkiforלֹא־תֵדַעlo-te/DAyou do not knowמַה־יֵּלֶדma-YE/ledwhat will bring forthיוֹם׃yoma day

   Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

   יְהַלֶּלְךָye/hal/lel/KHAlet praise youזָרzara strangerוְלֹא־פִיךָve/LO-FI/khaand not your own mouthנׇכְרִיnokh/RIa foreignerוְאַל־שְׂפָתֶיךָ׃ve/AL-se/fa/TE/khaand not your own lips

   Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

   כֹּבֶד־אֶבֶןKO/ved-E/venthe heaviness of a stoneוְנֵטֶלve/NE/teland the weight ofהַחוֹלha/CHOLthe sandוְכַעַסve/KHA/asbut the vexation ofאֱוִילe/VILa foolכָּבֵדka/VEDis heavierמִשְּׁנֵיהֶם׃mish/she/ne/HEMmore than both of them

   A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.

   אַכְזְרִיּוּתakh/ze/riy/YUTcruelty isחֵמָהche/MAwrathוְשֶׁטֶףve/SHE/tefand a flood isאָףafangerוּמִיu/MIbut whoיַעֲמֹדya/a/MODcan standלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeקִנְאָה׃kin/Ajealousy

   Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

   טוֹבָהto/VAbetter isתּוֹכַחַתto/KHA/chatrebukeמְגֻלָּהme/gul/LAopenמֵאַהֲבָהme/a/ha/VAthan loveמְסֻתָּרֶת׃me/sut/TA/rethidden

   Open rebuke is better than secret love.

   נֶאֱמָנִיםne/e/ma/NIMfaithfulפִּצְעֵיpits/Ethe wounds ofאוֹהֵבo/HEVa friendוְנַעְתָּרוֹתve/na/ta/ROTbut profuse areנְשִׁיקוֹתne/shi/KOTthe kisses ofשׂוֹנֵא׃so/NEan enemy

   Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

   נֶפֶשׁNE/fesha soulשְׂבֵעָהse/ve/Afullתָּבוּסta/VUStramplesנֹפֶתNO/feta honeycombוְנֶפֶשׁve/NE/feshbut to a soulרְעֵבָהre/e/VAhungryכׇּל־מַרkol-marevery bitter thingמָתוֹק׃ma/TOKis sweet

   The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

   כְּצִפּוֹרke/tsip/PORlike a birdנוֹדֶדֶתno/DE/detwhich wandersמִן־קִנָּהּmin-kin/NAfrom its nestכֵּן־אִישׁken-ishso is a manנוֹדֵדno/DEDwho wandersמִמְּקוֹמוֹ׃mim/me/ko/MOfrom his place

   As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.

   שֶׁמֶןSHE/menoilוּקְטֹרֶתu/ke/TO/retand the incense ofיְשַׂמַּח־לֵבye/sam/MACH-levmake glad the heartוּמֶתֶקu/ME/tekand the sweetness ofרֵעֵהוּre/E/huhis friendמֵעֲצַת־נָפֶשׁ׃me/a/TSAT-NA/feshfrom counsel of the soul

   Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.

    רֵעֲךָre/a/KHAyour neighbor(ורעה)varh[וְרֵעַ]ve/RE/aand the friend ofאָבִיךָa/VI/khayour fatherאַל־תַּעֲזֹבal-ta/a/ZOVdo not forsakeוּבֵיתu/VETand the house ofאָחִיךָa/CHI/khayour brotherאַל־תָּבוֹאal-ta/VOdo not enterבְּיוֹםbe/YOMin the day ofאֵידֶךָe/DE/khayour calamityטוֹבtovbetter isשָׁכֵןsha/KHENis a neighborקָרוֹבka/ROVnearמֵאָחme/ACHthan a brotherרָחוֹק׃ra/CHOKfar

    Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

    My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.

    עָרוּםa/RUMthe prudentרָאָהra/Aseesרָעָהra/Aevilנִסְתָּרnis/TARhides himselfפְּתָאיִםpe/ta/YIMthe simpleעָבְרוּa/ve/RUpass onנֶעֱנָשׁוּ׃ne/e/NA/shuare punished

    A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.

13. 13

    קַח־בִּגְדוֹkach-big/DOtake his garmentכִּי־עָרַבki-A/ravwhen he has become surety forזָרzara strangerוּבְעַדu/ve/ADand forנׇכְרִיָּהnokh/riy/YAa foreign womanחַבְלֵהוּ׃chav/LE/huhold him in pledge

    Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

    מְבָרֵךְme/VA/rekhone who blessesרֵעֵהוּre/E/huhis neighborבְּקוֹלbe/KOLwith a voiceגָּדוֹלga/DOLloudבַּבֹּקֶרbab/BO/kerin the morningהַשְׁכֵּיםhash/KEMrising earlyקְלָלָהke/la/LAa curseתֵּחָשֶׁבte/CHA/shevit will be countedלוֹ׃loto him

    He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.

    דֶּלֶףDE/lefa drippingטוֹרֵדto/REDcontinualבְּיוֹםbe/YOMin the day ofסַגְרִירsag/RIRsteady rainוְאֵשֶׁתve/E/shetand a wife of(מדונים)madavanayam[מִדְיָנִים]mid/ya/NIMquarrelsנִשְׁתָּוָה׃nish/ta/VAare alike

    A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.

    צֹפְנֶיהָtsof/NE/hawhoever restrains herצָפַן־רוּחַtsa/FAN-RU/achrestrains the windוְשֶׁמֶןve/SHE/menand oilיְמִינוֹye/mi/NOhis right handיִקְרָא׃yik/RAmeets

    Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.

    בַּרְזֶלbar/ZELironבְּבַרְזֶלbe/var/ZELwith ironיָחַדYA/chadsharpensוְאִישׁve/ISHso a manיַחַדYA/chadsharpensפְּנֵי־רֵעֵהוּ׃pe/NE-re/E/huthe face of his friend

    Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

18. 18

    נֹצֵרno/TSERhe who tendsתְּאֵנָהte/e/NAa fig treeיֹאכַלyo/KHALwill eatפִּרְיָהּpir/YAits fruitוְשֹׁמֵרve/sho/MERand he who guardsאֲדֹנָיוa/do/NAYVhis masterיְכֻבָּד׃ye/khub/BADwill be honored

    Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.

19. 19

    כַּמַּיִםkam/MA/yimas in waterהַפָּנִיםhap/pa/NIMfaceלַפָּנִיםlap/pa/NIMto the faceכֵּןkensoלֵב־הָאָדָםlev-ha/a/DAMthe heart of manלָאָדָם׃la/a/DAMfor man

    As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.

20. 20

    שְׁאוֹלShe/OLSheolוַאֲבַדֹּהva/a/vad/DOand destructionלֹאlonotתִשְׂבַּעְנָהtis/BA/nathey are satisfiedוְעֵינֵיve/e/NEand the eyes ofהָאָדָםha/a/DAMthe manלֹאlonotתִשְׂבַּעְנָה׃tis/BA/nathey are satisfied

    Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

    מַצְרֵףmats/REFthe crucibleלַכֶּסֶףlak/KE/sefis for silverוְכוּרve/KHURand the furnaceלַזָּהָבlaz/za/HAVfor goldוְאִישׁve/ISHand a manלְפִיle/FIbyמַהֲלָלוֹ׃ma/ha/la/LOhis praise

    As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.

    אִם־תִּכְתּוֹשׁ־אֶת־הָאֱוִילim-tikh/TOSH-et-ha/e/VILif you pound the foolבַּמַּכְתֵּשׁbam/makh/TESHin the mortarבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongהָרִיפוֹתha/ri/FOTthe grainבַּעֱלִיba/e/LIwith the pestleלֹא־תָסוּרlo-ta/SURwill not departמֵעָלָיוme/a/LAYVfrom himאִוַּלְתּוֹ׃iv/val/TOhis folly

    Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.

    יָדֹעַya/DO/aknowתֵּדַעte/DAyou shall knowפְּנֵיpe/NEthe face ofצֹאנֶךָtso/NE/khayour flockשִׁיתshitsetלִבְּךָlib/be/KHAyour heartלַעֲדָרִים׃la/a/da/RIMon the herds

    Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.

24. 24

    כִּיkiforלֹאlonotלְעוֹלָםle/o/LAMforeverחֹסֶןCHO/senis wealthוְאִם־נֵזֶרve/IM-NE/zerand is a crownלְדוֹרle/DORto generation(דור)davar[וָדוֹר]׃va/DORand generation

    For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?

25. 25

    גָּלָהga/LAis removedחָצִירcha/TSIRthe grassוְנִרְאָה־דֶשֶׁאve/nir/A-DE/sheand the new growth appearsוְנֶאֶסְפוּve/ne/es/FUand are gatheredעִשְּׂבוֹתis/se/VOTthe herbs ofהָרִים׃ha/RIMthe mountains

    The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.

    כְּבָשִׂיםke/va/SIMlambs areלִלְבוּשֶׁךָlil/vu/SHE/khafor your clothingוּמְחִירu/me/CHIRand the price ofשָׂדֶהsa/DEa fieldעַתּוּדִים׃at/tu/DIMgoats are

    The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.

    וְדֵיve/DEand enoughחֲלֵבcha/LEVmilk ofעִזִּיםiz/ZIMgoatsלְלַחְמְךָle/lach/me/KHAfor your foodלְלֶחֶםle/LE/chemfor the bread ofבֵּיתֶךָbe/TE/khayour houseוְחַיִּיםve/chay/YIMand lifeלְנַעֲרוֹתֶיךָ׃le/na/a/ro/TE/khafor your maidens

    And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.
