Isaiah 57 יְשַׁעְיָהוּ פרק נ״ז

1. 1

   הַצַּדִּיקthe-righteousאָבָדperishesוְאֵיןand-noאִישׁmanשָׂםlays-itעַל־לֵבupon-heartוְאַנְשֵׁי־חֶסֶדand-merciful-menנֶאֱסָפִיםare-taken-awayבְּאֵיןnoneמֵבִיןconsideringכִּי־מִפְּנֵיthat-fromהָרָעָהthe-evil-to-comeנֶאֱסַףis-taken-awayהַצַּדִּיק׃the-righteous

   The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.

   יָבוֹאshall-enter-inשָׁלוֹםpeaceיָנוּחוּto-them-that-restעַל־מִשְׁכְּבוֹתָםin-their-gravesהֹלֵךְhe-that-walks-inנְכֹחוֹ׃his-uprightness

   He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.

   וְאַתֶּםbutקִרְבוּ־הֵנָּהdraw-near-hitherבְּנֵיO-sons-ofעֹנְנָהthe-sorceressזֶרַעthe-seed-ofמְנָאֵףthe-adultererוַתִּזְנֶה׃and-the-harlot

   But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the whore.

   עַל־מִיagainst-whomתִּתְעַנָּגוּdo-you-make-sportעַל־מִיagainst-whomתַּרְחִיבוּdo-you-open-wideפֶהyour-mouthתַּאֲרִיכוּand-draw-outלָשׁוֹןthe-tongueהֲלוֹא־אַתֶּםare-you-notיִלְדֵי־פֶשַׁעchildren-of-transgressionזֶרַעa-seed-ofשָׁקֶר׃falsehood

   Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, and draw out the tongue? are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood,

   הַנֵּחָמִיםinflaming-yourselvesבָּאֵלִיםamong-the-terebinthsתַּחַתunderכׇּל־עֵץevery-treeרַעֲנָןgreenשֹׁחֲטֵיslayingהַיְלָדִיםthe-childrenבַּנְּחָלִיםin-the-valleysתַּחַתunderסְעִפֵיthe-clefts-ofהַסְּלָעִים׃the-rocks

   Enflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the clifts of the rocks?

   בְּחַלְּקֵי־נַחַלamong-the-smooth-stones-of-the-wadiחֶלְקֵךְis-your-portionהֵםtheyהֵםthey-areגּוֹרָלֵךְyour-lotגַּם־לָהֶםeven-to-themשָׁפַכְתְּhave-you-pouredנֶסֶךְa-drink-offeringהֶעֱלִיתyou-have-offeredמִנְחָהa-meal-offeringהַעַלshall-forאֵלֶּהtheseאֶנָּחֵם׃I-be-appeased

   Among the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these?

   עַלuponהַר־גָּבֹהַּa-lofty-mountainוְנִשָּׂאand-highשַׂמְתְּhave-you-setמִשְׁכָּבֵךְyour-bedגַּם־שָׁםalso-thereעָלִיתyou-went-upלִזְבֹּחַto-offerזָבַח׃sacrifice

   Upon a lofty and high mountain hast thou set thy bed: even thither wentest thou up to offer sacrifice.

   וְאַחַרbehindהַדֶּלֶתthe-doorsוְהַמְּזוּזָהand-the-postsשַׂמְתְּhave-you-set-upזִכְרוֹנֵךְyour-symbolכִּיforמֵאִתִּיto-others-than-meגִּלִּיתyou-have-uncovered-yourselfוַתַּעֲלִיand-are-gone-upהִרְחַבְתְּyou-have-enlargedמִשְׁכָּבֵךְyour-bedוַתִּכְרׇת־לָךְand-made-a-covenantמֵהֶםwith-some-of-themאָהַבְתְּyou-did-loveמִשְׁכָּבָםtheir-lying-with-youיָדa-placeחָזִית׃you-did-select

   Behind the doors also and the posts hast thou set up thy remembrance: for thou hast discovered thyself to another than me, and art gone up; thou hast enlarged thy bed, and made thee a covenant with them; thou lovedst their bed where thou sawest it.

   וַתָּשֻׁרִיand-you-wentלַמֶּלֶךְto-the-kingבַּשֶּׁמֶןwith-ointmentוַתַּרְבִּיand-did-increaseרִקֻּחָיִךְyour-perfumesוַתְּשַׁלְּחִיand-did-sendצִרַיִךְyour-messengersעַד־מֵרָחֹקfar-offוַתַּשְׁפִּילִיand-sent-downעַד־שְׁאוֹל׃even-to-Sheol

   And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers far off, and didst debase thyself even unto hell.

    בְּרֹבwith-the-length-ofדַּרְכֵּךְyour-wayיָגַעַתְּyou-are-weariedלֹאnotאָמַרְתְּdid-you-sayנוֹאָשׁit-is-hopelessחַיַּתa-renewal-ofיָדֵךְyour-strengthמָצָאתyou-have-foundעַל־כֵּןthereforeלֹאnotחָלִית׃you-were-sick

    Thou art wearied in the greatness of thy way; yet saidst thou not, There is no hope: thou hast found the life of thine hand; therefore thou wast not grieved.

    וְאֶת־מִיand-whoדָּאַגְתְּhave-you-been-afraidוַתִּירְאִיor-fearedכִּיthatתְכַזֵּבִיyou-were-falseוְאוֹתִיand-meלֹאnotזָכַרְתְּhave-you-rememberedלֹא־שַׂמְתְּnor-laid-itעַל־לִבֵּךְupon-your-heartהֲלֹאis-it-not-thatאֲנִיIמַחְשֶׁהheld-my-peaceוּמֵעֹלָםeven-of-oldוְאוֹתִיmeלֹאnotתִירָאִי׃you-fear-me-not

    And of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of old, and thou fearest me not?

    אֲנִיIאַגִּידwill-declareצִדְקָתֵךְyour-righteousnessוְאֶת־מַעֲשַׂיִךְand-as-for-your-worksוְלֹאand-notיוֹעִילוּךְ׃they-shall-profit-you

    I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; for they shall not profit thee.

    בְּזַעֲקֵךְwhen-you-cryיַצִּילֻךְlet-them-deliver-youקִבּוּצַיִךְyour-collection-of-idolsוְאֶת־כֻּלָּםbut-them-allיִשָּׂא־רוּחַthe-wind-shall-carry-awayיִקַּח־הָבֶלa-breath-shall-bear-them-offוְהַחוֹסֶהbut-he-that-puts-his-trustבִיin-meיִנְחַל־אֶרֶץshall-possess-the-landוְיִירַשׁand-shall-inheritהַר־קׇדְשִׁי׃my-holy-mountain

    When thou criest, let thy companies deliver thee; but the wind shall carry them all away; vanity shall take them: but he that putteth his trust in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy mountain;

    וְאָמַרand-one-shall-sayסֹלּוּ־סֹלּוּbank-up-build-upפַּנּוּ־דָרֶךְprepare-the-wayהָרִימוּtake-upמִכְשׁוֹלthe-stumblingblockמִדֶּרֶךְout-of-the-way-ofעַמִּי׃my-people

    And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people.

    כִּיforכֹהthusאָמַרsaidרָםthe-highוְנִשָּׂאand-lofty-Oneשֹׁכֵןthat-inhabitsעַדeternityוְקָדוֹשׁand-Holyשְׁמוֹis-his-nameמָרוֹםon-highוְקָדוֹשׁand-in-a-holy-placeאֶשְׁכּוֹןI-dwellוְאֶת־דַּכָּאyet-with-him-that-is-of-a-contriteוּשְׁפַל־רוּחַand-humble-spiritלְהַחֲיוֹתto-reviveרוּחַthe-spirit-ofשְׁפָלִיםthe-humbleוּלְהַחֲיוֹתand-to-reviveלֵבthe-heart-ofנִדְכָּאִים׃the-contrite-ones

    For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

    כִּיbecauseלֹאnotלְעוֹלָםfor-everאָרִיבwill-I-contendוְלֹאand-notלָנֶצַחalwaysאֶקְצוֹףwill-I-be-angryכִּי־רוּחַbut-the-spiritמִלְּפָנַיbefore-meיַעֲטוֹףshould-faintוּנְשָׁמוֹתand-the-soulאֲנִיIעָשִׂיתִי׃have-made

    For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.

    בַּעֲוֺןfor-the-iniquity-ofבִּצְעוֹhis-covetousnessקָצַפְתִּיwas-I-wrathfulוְאַכֵּהוּand-smote-himהַסְתֵּרI-hid-meוְאֶקְצֹףand-was-angryוַיֵּלֶךְbut-he-went-onשׁוֹבָבperverselyבְּדֶרֶךְby-the-way-ofלִבּוֹ׃his-heart

    For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart.

18. 18

    דְּרָכָיוhis-waysרָאִיתִיI-have-seenוְאֶרְפָּאֵהוּand-I-will-heal-himוְאַנְחֵהוּI-will-lead-him-alsoוַאֲשַׁלֵּםand-bestowנִחֻמִיםcomfortsלוֹon-himוְלַאֲבֵלָיו׃and-on-his-mourners

    I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.

19. 19

    בּוֹרֵאI-will-create(נוב)[נִיב]a-new-expression-ofשְׂפָתָיִםthe-lipsשָׁלוֹםpeaceשָׁלוֹםpeaceלָרָחוֹקboth-for-farוְלַקָּרוֹבand-nearאָמַרsaidיְהֹוָהthe-LORDוּרְפָאתִיו׃and-I-will-heal-him

    I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.

20. 20

    וְהָרְשָׁעִיםbut-the-wickedכַּיָּםare-like-the-seaנִגְרָשׁtroubledכִּיbecauseהַשְׁקֵטbe-stillלֹאnotיוּכׇלwhich-cannotוַיִּגְרְשׁוּand-whose-cast-upמֵימָיוwatersרֶפֶשׁmireוָטִיט׃and-dirt

    But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.

    אֵיןthere-will-be-noשָׁלוֹםpeaceאָמַרsaidאֱלֹהַיmy-Godלָרְשָׁעִים׃for-the-wicked

    There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
