   Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king's commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them;)

   The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt: and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.

   And all the rulers of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the deputies, and officers of the king, helped the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them.

   כִּי־גָדוֹלki-ga/DOLfor great wasמׇרְדֳּכַיMor/do/KHAYMordecaiבְּבֵיתbe/VETin the house ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְשׇׁמְעוֹve/shom/Oand his fameהוֹלֵךְho/LEKHwent outבְּכׇל־הַמְּדִינוֹתbe/KHOL-ham/me/di/NOTthroughout all the provincesכִּי־הָאִישׁki-ha/ISHfor the manמׇרְדֳּכַיMor/do/KHAYMordecaiהוֹלֵךְho/LEKHgrewוְגָדוֹל׃ve/ga/DOLand greater

   For Mordecai was great in the king's house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces: for this man Mordecai waxed greater and greater.

   וַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand smoteהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsבְּכׇל־אֹיְבֵיהֶםbe/KHOL-oy/ve/HEMall their enemiesמַכַּת־חֶרֶבmak/KAT-CHE/revwith the stroke of the swordוְהֶרֶגve/HE/regand slaughterוְאַבְדָןve/av/DANand destructionוַיַּעֲשׂוּvay/ya/a/SUand didבְשֹׂנְאֵיהֶםve/son/e/HEMto those who hated themכִּרְצוֹנָם׃kir/tso/NAMaccording to their will

   Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated them.

   וּבְשׁוּשַׁןu/ve/Shu/SHANand in Shushanהַבִּירָהhab/bi/RAthe citadelהָרְגוּha/re/GUslewהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsוְאַבֵּדve/ab/BEDand destroyedחֲמֵשׁcha/MESHfiveמֵאוֹתme/OThundredאִישׁ׃ishmen

   And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men.

   And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,

   And Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,

   וְאֵתve/ETandפַּרְמַשְׁתָּאPar/MASH/taParmashtaוְאֵתve/ETandאֲרִיסַיA/ri/SAYArisaiוְאֵתve/ETandאֲרִידַיA/ri/DAYAridaiוְאֵתve/ETandוַיְזָתָא׃Vay/ZA/taVaizatha

   And Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha,

    עֲשֶׂרֶתa/SE/rettenבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofהָמָןHa/MANHamanבֶּן־הַמְּדָתָאben-Ham/me/DA/tathe son of Hammedathaצֹרֵרtso/RERthe enemy ofהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsהָרָגוּha/RA/guthey slewוּבַבִּזָּהu/vab/biz/ZAbut on the spoilלֹאlonotשָׁלְחוּsha/le/CHUthey laidאֶת־יָדָם׃et-ya/DAMtheir hand

    The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, slew they; but on the spoil laid they not their hand.

    On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king.

    And the king said unto Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king's provinces? now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done.

    וַתֹּאמֶרvat/TO/merand saidאֶסְתֵּרEs/TEREstherאִם־עַל־הַמֶּלֶךְim-al-ham/ME/lekhif to the kingטוֹבtovit seem goodיִנָּתֵןyin/na/TENlet it be grantedגַּם־מָחָרgam-ma/CHARtomorrow alsoלַיְּהוּדִיםlay/Ye/hu/DIMto the Jewsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho areבְּשׁוּשָׁןbe/Shu/SHANin Shushanלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doכְּדָתke/DATaccording to the decree ofהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthis dayוְאֵתve/ETandעֲשֶׂרֶתa/SE/rettenבְּנֵי־הָמָןbe/NE-ha/MANthe sons of Hamanיִתְלוּyit/LUlet them hangעַל־הָעֵץ׃al-ha/ETSupon the gallows

    Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do to morrow also according unto this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלְהֵעָשׂוֹתle/he/a/SOTto be doneכֵּןkensoוַתִּנָּתֵןvat/tin/na/TENand was givenדָּתdatthe decreeבְּשׁוּשָׁןbe/Shu/SHANin Shushanוְאֵתve/ETandעֲשֶׂרֶתa/SE/rettenבְּנֵי־הָמָןbe/NE-ha/MANthe sons of Hamanתָּלוּ׃ta/LUthey hanged

    And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons.

    וַיִּקָּהֲלוּvay/yik/ka/ha/LUand gathered themselves together(היהודיים)hayahavadayayam[הַיְּהוּדִים]Hay/ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsאֲשֶׁר־בְּשׁוּשָׁןa/SHER-Be/shu/SHANthat were in Shushanגַּםgamalsoבְּיוֹםbe/YOMon dayאַרְבָּעָה־עָשָׂרar/ba/A-a/SARthe fourteenthלְחֹדֶשׁle/CHO/deshof the monthאֲדָרA/DARAdarוַיַּהַרְגוּvay/ya/har/GUand slewבְשׁוּשָׁןve/Shu/SHANin Shushanשְׁלֹשׁshe/LOSHthreeמֵאוֹתme/OThundredאִישׁishmenוּבַבִּזָּהu/vab/biz/ZAbut on the spoilלֹאlonotשָׁלְחוּsha/le/CHUthey laidאֶת־יָדָם׃et-ya/DAMtheir hand

    For the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand.

    וּשְׁאָרu/she/ARbut the rest ofהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wereבִּמְדִינוֹתbim/di/NOTin the provinces ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingנִקְהֲלוּnik/ha/LUgathered themselves togetherוְעָמֹדve/a/MODand stoodעַל־נַפְשָׁםal-naf/SHAMfor their livesוְנוֹחַve/NO/achand had restמֵאֹיְבֵיהֶםme/oy/ve/HEMfrom their enemiesוְהָרוֹגve/ha/ROGand slewבְּשֹׂנְאֵיהֶםbe/son/e/HEMof those who hated themחֲמִשָּׁהcha/mish/SHAfiveוְשִׁבְעִיםve/shiv/IMand seventyאָלֶףA/lefthousandוּבַבִּזָּהu/vab/biz/ZAbut on the spoilלֹאlonotשָׁלְחוּsha/le/CHUthey laidאֶת־יָדָם׃et-ya/DAMtheir hand

    But the other Jews that were in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on the prey,

17. 17

    בְּיוֹם־שְׁלוֹשָׁה־עָשָׂרbe/YOM-she/lo/SHA-a/SARon the thirteenth dayלְחֹדֶשׁle/CHO/deshof the monthאֲדָרA/DARAdarוְנוֹחַve/NO/achand restedבְּאַרְבָּעָה־עָשָׂרbe/ar/ba/A-a/SARon the fourteenthבּוֹboof itוְעָשֹׂהve/a/SOand madeאֹתוֹo/TOitיוֹםyoma day ofמִשְׁתֶּהmish/TEfeastingוְשִׂמְחָה׃ve/sim/CHAand gladness

    On the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same rested they, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

    [וְהַיְּהוּדִים]Ve/hay/ye/hu/DIMand the Jewsאֲשֶׁר־בְּשׁוּשָׁןa/SHER-Be/shu/SHANthat were in Shushanנִקְהֲלוּnik/ha/LUassembled togetherבִּשְׁלוֹשָׁה־עָשָׂרbish/lo/SHA-a/SARon the thirteenthבּוֹboof itוּבְאַרְבָּעָה־עָשָׂרu/ve/ar/ba/A-a/SARand on the fourteenthבּוֹboof itוְנוֹחַve/NO/achand restedבַּחֲמִשָּׁה־עָשָׂרba/cha/mish/SHA-a/SARon the fifteenthבּוֹboof itוְעָשֹׂהve/a/SOand madeאֹתוֹo/TOitיוֹםyoma day ofמִשְׁתֶּהmish/TEfeastingוְשִׂמְחָה׃ve/sim/CHAand gladness

    But the Jews that were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day thereof, and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

    עַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jews[הַפְּרָזִים]hap/pe/ra/ZIMthe villagersהַיֹּשְׁבִיםhay/yosh/VIMthat dweltבְּעָרֵיbe/a/REin the cities ofהַפְּרָזוֹתhap/pe/ra/ZOTthe unwalled townsעֹשִׂיםo/SIMmakeאֵת־יוֹםet-yomdayאַרְבָּעָה־עָשָׂרar/ba/A-a/SARthe fourteenthלְחֹדֶשׁle/CHO/deshof the monthאֲדָרA/DARAdarשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAgladnessוּמִשְׁתֶּהu/mish/TEand feastingוְיוֹםve/YOMand a dayטוֹבtovgoodוּמִשְׁלֹחַu/mish/LO/achand of sendingמָנוֹתma/NOTportionsאִישׁisha manלְרֵעֵהוּ׃le/re/E/huto his neighbor

    Therefore the Jews of the villages, that dwelt in the unwalled towns, made the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.

    וַיִּכְתֹּבvay/yikh/TOVand he wroteמׇרְדֳּכַיMor/do/KHAYMordecaiאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentסְפָרִיםse/fa/RIMlettersאֶל־כׇּל־הַיְּהוּדִיםel-Kol-hay/ye/hu/DIMto all the Jewsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wereבְּכׇל־מְדִינוֹתbe/KHOL-me/di/NOTin all the provinces ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֲחַשְׁוֵרוֹשׁA/chash/ve/ROSHAhasuerusהַקְּרוֹבִיםhak/ke/ro/VIMboth nearוְהָרְחוֹקִים׃ve/ha/re/cho/KIMand far

    And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both nigh and far,

    לְקַיֵּםle/kay/YEMto establishעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMamong themלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTthat they shouldעֹשִׂיםo/SIMkeepאֵת־יוֹםet-yomdayאַרְבָּעָה־עָשָׂרar/ba/A-a/SARthe fourteenthלְחֹדֶשׁle/CHO/deshof the monthאֲדָרA/DARAdarוְאֵתve/ETandיוֹם־חֲמִשָּׁה־עָשָׂרyom-cha/mish/SHA-a/SARthe fifteenth dayבּוֹboof itבְּכׇל־שָׁנָהbe/KHOL-sha/NAin every yearוְשָׁנָה׃ve/sha/NAand year

    To stablish this among them, that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,

    As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.

    וְקִבֵּלve/kib/BELand undertookהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־הֵחֵלּוּet-a/SHER-he/CHEL/luwhat they had begunלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doוְאֵתve/ETandאֲשֶׁר־כָּתַבa/SHER-ka/TAVwhat had writtenמׇרְדֳּכַיMor/do/KHAYMordecaiאֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMto them

    And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written unto them;

24. 24

    כִּיkibecauseהָמָןHa/MANHamanבֶּן־הַמְּדָתָאben-Ham/me/DA/tathe son of Hammedathaהָאֲגָגִיha/A/ga/GIthe Agagiteצֹרֵרtso/RERthe enemy ofכׇּל־הַיְּהוּדִיםkol-Hay/ye/hu/DIMall the Jewsחָשַׁבcha/SHAVhad devisedעַל־הַיְּהוּדִיםal-Hay/ye/hu/DIMagainst the Jewsלְאַבְּדָםle/ab/be/DAMto destroy themוְהִפִּלve/hip/PILand had castפּוּרPurPurהוּאhuthat isהַגּוֹרָלhag/go/RALthe lotלְהֻמָּםle/hum/MAMto crush themוּלְאַבְּדָם׃u/le/ab/be/DAMand to destroy them

    Because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;

    וּבְבֹאָהּu/ve/vo/Aand when she cameלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאָמַרa/MARhe commandedעִם־הַסֵּפֶרim-has/SE/ferby lettersיָשׁוּבya/SHUVshould returnמַחֲשַׁבְתּוֹma/cha/shav/TOhis deviceהָרָעָהha/ra/Awickedאֲשֶׁר־חָשַׁבa/SHER-cha/SHAVwhich he devisedעַל־הַיְּהוּדִיםal-Hay/ye/hu/DIMagainst the Jewsעַל־רֹאשׁוֹal-ro/SHOupon his own headוְתָלוּve/ta/LUand they hangedאֹתוֹo/TOhimוְאֶת־בָּנָיוve/ET-ba/NAYVand his sonsעַל־הָעֵץ׃al-ha/ETSon the gallows

    But when Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

    Wherefore they called these days Purim after the name of Pur. Therefore for all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and which had come unto them,

    קִיְּמוּkiy/ye/MUordained(וקבל)vakaval[וְקִבְּלוּ]ve/kib/be/LUand took uponהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themוְעַל־זַרְעָםve/AL-zar/AMand upon their seedוְעַלve/ALand uponכׇּל־הַנִּלְוִיםkol-han/nil/VIMall such as joined themselvesעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themוְלֹאve/LOso that notיַעֲבוֹרya/a/VORit should failלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTthat they wouldעֹשִׂיםo/SIMkeepאֵת־שְׁנֵיet-she/NEtwoהַיָּמִיםhay/ya/MIMthe daysהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseכִּכְתָבָםkikh/ta/VAMaccording to their writingוְכִזְמַנָּםve/khiz/man/NAMand according to their appointed timeבְּכׇל־שָׁנָהbe/KHOL-sha/NAin every yearוְשָׁנָה׃ve/sha/NAand year

    The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year;

    וְהַיָּמִיםve/hay/ya/MIMand the daysהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseנִזְכָּרִיםniz/ka/RIMshould be rememberedוְנַעֲשִׂיםve/na/a/SIMand keptבְּכׇל־דּוֹרbe/KHOL-dorthroughout every generationוָדוֹרva/DORand generationמִשְׁפָּחָהmish/pa/CHAfamilyוּמִשְׁפָּחָהu/mish/pa/CHAand familyמְדִינָהme/di/NAprovinceוּמְדִינָהu/me/di/NAand provinceוְעִירve/IRand cityוָעִירva/IRand cityוִימֵיvi/MEand the days ofהַפּוּרִיםHap/pu/RIMPurimהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseלֹאlonotיַעַבְרוּya/av/RUshall failמִתּוֹךְmit/TOKHfrom amongהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsוְזִכְרָםve/zikh/RAMand the memorial of themלֹא־יָסוּףlo-ya/SUFperish notמִזַּרְעָם׃miz/zar/AMfrom their seed

    And that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed.

29. 29

    וַתִּכְתֹּבvat/tikh/TOVand she wroteאֶסְתֵּרEs/TEREstherהַמַּלְכָּהham/mal/KAthe queenבַת־אֲבִיחַיִלvat-A/vi/CHA/yilthe daughter of Abihailוּמׇרְדֳּכַיu/Mor/do/KHAYand Mordecaiהַיְּהוּדִיhay/Ye/hu/DIthe Jewאֶת־כׇּל־תֹּקֶףet-kol-TO/kefwith all authorityלְקַיֵּםle/kay/YEMto confirmאֵת־אִגֶּרֶתet-ig/GE/retthe letter ofהַפֻּרִיםHap/pu/RIMPurimהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisהַשֵּׁנִית׃hash/she/NITthe second

    Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority, to confirm this second letter of Purim.

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentסְפָרִיםse/fa/RIMlettersאֶל־כׇּל־הַיְּהוּדִיםel-Kol-hay/ye/hu/DIMto all the Jewsאֶל־שֶׁבַעel-SHE/vato sevenוְעֶשְׂרִיםve/es/RIMand twentyוּמֵאָהu/me/Aand a hundredמְדִינָהme/di/NAprovincesמַלְכוּתmal/KHUTthe kingdom ofאֲחַשְׁוֵרוֹשׁA/chash/ve/ROSHAhasuerusדִּבְרֵיdiv/REthe words ofשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceוֶאֱמֶת׃ve/e/METand truth

    And he sent the letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,

    לְקַיֵּםle/kay/YEMto confirmאֶת־יְמֵיet-ye/MEthe days ofהַפֻּרִיםHap/pu/RIMPurimהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseבִּזְמַנֵּיהֶםbiz/man/ne/HEMat their appointed timesכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasקִיַּםkiy/YAMhad enjoinedעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMthemמׇרְדֳּכַיMor/do/KHAYMordecaiהַיְּהוּדִיhay/Ye/hu/DIthe Jewוְאֶסְתֵּרve/Es/TERand Estherהַמַּלְכָּהham/mal/KAthe queenוְכַאֲשֶׁרve/kha/a/SHERand asקִיְּמוּkiy/ye/MUthey had decreedעַל־נַפְשָׁםal-naf/SHAMfor themselvesוְעַל־זַרְעָםve/AL-zar/AMand for their seedדִּבְרֵיdiv/REthe matters ofהַצּוֹמוֹתhats/tso/MOTthe fastingsוְזַעֲקָתָם׃ve/za/a/ka/TAMand their cry

    To confirm these days of Purim in their times appointed, according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had enjoined them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry.

32. 32

    וּמַאֲמַרu/ma/a/MARand the decree ofאֶסְתֵּרEs/TEREstherקִיַּםkiy/YAMconfirmedדִּבְרֵיdiv/REthe matters ofהַפֻּרִיםHap/pu/RIMPurimהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוְנִכְתָּבve/nikh/TAVand it was writtenבַּסֵּפֶר׃bas/SE/ferin the book

    And the decree of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.
