   And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!

   And it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom.

   וַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand becameהַתְּשֻׁעָהhat/te/shu/Athe victoryבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatלְאֵבֶלle/E/velinto mourningלְכׇל־הָעָםle/KHOL-ha/AMto all the peopleכִּי־שָׁמַעki-sha/MAfor heardהָעָםha/AMthe peopleבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingנֶעֱצַבne/e/TSAVis grievedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingעַל־בְּנוֹ׃al-be/NOfor his son

   And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people: for the people heard say that day how the king was grieved for his son.

   וַיִּתְגַּנֵּבvay/yit/gan/NEVand stoleהָעָםha/AMthe peopleבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatלָבוֹאla/VOto come toהָעִירha/IRthe cityכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasיִתְגַּנֵּבyit/gan/NEVstealהָעָםha/AMthe peopleהַנִּכְלָמִיםhan/nikh/la/MIMwho are ashamedבְּנוּסָםbe/nu/SAMin their fleeingבַּמִּלְחָמָה׃bam/mil/cha/MAin the battle

   And the people gat them by stealth that day into the city, as people being ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.

   וְהַמֶּלֶךְve/ham/ME/lekhand the kingלָאַטla/ATwrappedאֶת־פָּנָיוet-pa/NAYVhis faceוַיִּזְעַקvay/yiz/AKand cried outהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingקוֹלkolwith a voiceגָּדוֹלga/DOLloudבְּנִיbe/NImy sonאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomאַבְשָׁלוֹםAv/sha/LOMAbsalomבְּנִיbe/NImy sonבְנִי׃ve/NImy son

   But the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!

   And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy servants, which this day have saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines;

   In that thou lovest thine enemies, and hatest thy friends. For thou hast declared this day, that thou regardest neither princes nor servants: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well.

   Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortably unto thy servants: for I swear by the LORD, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry one with thee this night: and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that befell thee from thy youth until now.

   Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king doth sit in the gate. And all the people came before the king: for Israel had fled every man to his tent.

    And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king saved us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land for Absalom.

    And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?

    And king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, even to his house.

    Ye are my brethren, ye are my bones and my flesh: wherefore then are ye the last to bring back the king?

14. 14

    וְלַעֲמָשָׂאve/La/a/ma/SAand to Amasaתֹּמְרוּtom/RUyou shall sayהֲלוֹאha/LOnotעַצְמִיats/MImy boneוּבְשָׂרִיu/ve/sa/RIand my fleshאָתָּהAT/tayou areכֹּהkosoיַעֲשֶׂה־לִּיya/a/SE-limay do to meאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוְכֹהve/KHOand moreיוֹסִיףyo/SIFalsoאִם־לֹאim-loif notשַׂר־צָבָאsar-tsa/VAthe commander of the armyתִּהְיֶהtih/YEshall beלְפָנַיle/fa/NAYbefore meכׇּל־הַיָּמִיםkol-hay/ya/MIMall the daysתַּחַתTA/chatin the place ofיוֹאָב׃Yo/AVJoab

    And say ye to Amasa, Art thou not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.

    וַיַּטvay/YATand he turnedאֶת־לְבַבet-le/VAVthe heart ofכׇּל־אִישׁ־יְהוּדָהkol-Ish-ye/hu/DAall the men of Judahכְּאִישׁke/ISHas a manאֶחָדe/CHADoneוַיִּשְׁלְחוּvay/yish/le/CHUand they sentאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingשׁוּבshuvreturnאַתָּהat/TAyouוְכׇל־עֲבָדֶיךָ׃ve/KHOL-a/va/DE/khaand all your servants

    And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent this word unto the king, Return thou, and all thy servants.

    וַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand returnedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameעַד־הַיַּרְדֵּןad-Hay/yar/DENto the JordanוִיהוּדָהVi/hu/DAand Judahבָּאbacameהַגִּלְגָּלָהhag/Gil/GA/lato Gilgalלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goלִקְרַאתlik/RATto meetהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלְהַעֲבִירle/ha/a/VIRto bring overאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּן׃et-Hay/yar/DENthe Jordan

    So the king returned, and came to Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to conduct the king over Jordan.

    וַיְמַהֵרvay/ma/HERand hurriedשִׁמְעִיShim/IShimeiבֶן־גֵּרָאven-Ge/RAthe son of Geraבֶּן־הַיְמִינִיben-Hay/mi/NIthe Benjamiteאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wasמִבַּחוּרִיםmib/Ba/chu/RIMfrom Bahurimוַיֵּרֶדvay/YE/redand came downעִם־אִישׁim-ishwith the men ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahלִקְרַאתlik/RATto meetהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingדָּוִד׃Da/VIDDavid

    And Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite, which was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.

    וְאֶלֶףve/E/lefand a thousandאִישׁishmenעִמּוֹim/MOwith himמִבִּנְיָמִןmib/Bin/ya/MINof Benjaminוְצִיבָאve/Tsi/VAand ZibaנַעַרNA/arthe servant ofבֵּיתbetthe house ofשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulוַחֲמֵשֶׁת־עָשָׂרva/cha/ME/shet-a/SARand fifteenבָּנָיוba/NAYVhis sonsוְעֶשְׂרִיםve/es/RIMand twentyעֲבָדָיוa/va/DAYVhis servantsאִתּוֹit/TOwith himוְצָלְחוּve/tsa/le/CHUand they rushed intoהַיַּרְדֵּןhay/Yar/DENthe Jordanלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went over Jordan before the king.

    וְעָבְרָהve/a/ve/RAand crossedהָעֲבָרָהha/a/va/RAthe crossingלַעֲבִירla/a/VIRto bring overאֶת־בֵּיתet-betthe household ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְלַעֲשׂוֹתve/la/a/SOTand to doהַטּוֹבhat/TOVwhat was goodבְּעֵינָוbe/e/NAVin his eyesוְשִׁמְעִיve/Shim/Iand Shimeiבֶן־גֵּרָאven-Ge/RAthe son of Geraנָפַלna/FALfellלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingבְּעׇבְרוֹbe/ov/ROas he crossedבַּיַּרְדֵּן׃bay/Yar/DENthe Jordan

    And there went over a ferry boat to carry over the king's household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, as he was come over Jordan;

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingאַל־יַחֲשָׁב־לִיal-ya/cha/SHAV-lilet not count against meאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordעָוֺןa/VONiniquityוְאַל־תִּזְכֹּרve/AL-tiz/KORand do not rememberאֵת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERthat whichהֶעֱוָהhe/e/VAdid wrongעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayאֲשֶׁר־יָׄצָאׄa/SHER-ya/TSAthat went outאֲדֹנִי־הַמֶּלֶךְa/do/NI-ham/ME/lekhmy lord the kingמִירוּשָׁלָ͏ִםmI/ru/sha/LA/yimfrom Jerusalemלָשׂוּםla/SUMto setהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶל־לִבּוֹ׃el-lib/BOto his heart

    And said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

    For thy servant doth know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come the first this day of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredאֲבִישַׁיA/vi/SHAYAbishaiבֶּן־צְרוּיָהben-Tse/ru/YAthe son of Zeruiahוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהֲתַחַתha/TA/chatforזֹאתzotthisלֹאlonotיוּמַתyu/MATshall be put to deathשִׁמְעִיShim/IShimeiכִּיkibecauseקִלֵּלkil/LELhe cursedאֶת־מְשִׁיחַet-me/SHI/achthe anointed ofיְהֹוָה׃Adonaithe LORD

    But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD's anointed?

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדָּוִדDa/VIDDavidמַה־לִּיma-liwhat is to meוְלָכֶםve/la/KHEMand to youבְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofצְרוּיָהTse/ru/YAZeruiahכִּי־תִהְיוּ־לִיki-tih/YU-lithat you should be to meהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayלְשָׂטָןle/sa/TANan adversaryהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayיוּמַתyu/MATshall be put to deathאִישׁisha manבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELin Israelכִּיkiforהֲלוֹאha/LOdo notיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowכִּיkithatהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayאֲנִי־מֶלֶךְa/NI-ME/lekhI am kingעַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃al-Yis/ra/ELover Israel

    And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶל־שִׁמְעִיel-Shim/Ito Shimeiלֹאlonotתָמוּתta/MUTyou shall dieוַיִּשָּׁבַעvay/yish/sha/VAand sworeלוֹloto himהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    Therefore the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him.

    וּמְפִבֹשֶׁתu/Me/fi/VO/shetand Mephiboshethבֶּן־שָׁאוּלben-Sha/ULthe son of Saulיָרַדya/RADcame downלִקְרַאתlik/RATto meetהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְלֹא־עָשָׂהve/LO-a/SAand he had not tendedרַגְלָיוrag/LAYVhis feetוְלֹא־עָשָׂהve/LO-a/SAand had not tendedשְׂפָמוֹse/fa/MOhis mustacheוְאֶת־בְּגָדָיוve/ET-be/ga/DAYVand his garmentsלֹאlonotכִבֵּסkhib/BEShad he washedלְמִן־הַיּוֹםle/MIN-hay/YOMfrom the dayלֶכֶתLE/khetthe going ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingעַד־הַיּוֹםad-hay/YOMuntil the dayאֲשֶׁר־בָּאa/SHER-bathat he cameבְשָׁלוֹם׃ve/sha/LOMin peace

    And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in peace.

    And it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth?

    וַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhO kingעַבְדִּיav/DImy servantרִמָּנִיrim/MA/nideceived meכִּי־אָמַרki-a/MARfor saidעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantאֶחְבְּשָׁה־לִּיech/be/SHA-lilet me saddle for myselfהַחֲמוֹרha/cha/MORthe donkeyוְאֶרְכַּבve/er/KAVand rideעָלֶיהָa/LE/haupon itוְאֵלֵךְve/e/LEKHand goאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhwith the kingכִּיkiforפִסֵּחַfis/SE/achis lameעַבְדֶּךָ׃av/DE/khayour servant

    And he answered, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me: for thy servant said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go to the king; because thy servant is lame.

28. 28

    וַיְרַגֵּלvay/rag/GELand he has slanderedבְּעַבְדְּךָbe/av/de/KHAyour servantאֶל־אֲדֹנִיel-a/do/NIto my lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַאדֹנִיva/do/NIand my lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingכְּמַלְאַךְke/mal/AKHis as the angel ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodוַעֲשֵׂהva/a/SEso doהַטּוֹבhat/TOVwhat is goodבְּעֵינֶיךָ׃be/e/NE/khain your eyes

    And he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes.

29. 29

    כִּיkibecauseלֹאlonotהָיָהha/YAwereכׇּל־בֵּיתkol-betall the house ofאָבִיa/VImy fatherכִּיkibutאִם־אַנְשֵׁי־מָוֶתim-an/SHE-MA/vetmen of deathלַאדֹנִיla/do/NIbefore my lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַתָּשֶׁתvat/TA/shetand you setאֶת־עַבְדְּךָet-av/de/KHAyour servantבְּאֹכְלֵיbe/okh/LEamong those who eat atשֻׁלְחָנֶךָshul/cha/NE/khayour tableוּמַה־יֶּשׁ־לִיu/MA-yesh-liand what is there for meעוֹדodstillצְדָקָהtse/da/KAa rightוְלִזְעֹקve/liz/OKto cry outעוֹדodstillאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְ׃el-ham/ME/lekhto the king

    For all of my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king?

30. 30

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלוֹloto himהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלָמָּהLAM/mawhyתְּדַבֵּרte/dab/BERdo you speakעוֹדodstillדְּבָרֶיךָde/va/RE/khayour wordsאָמַרְתִּיa/MAR/tiI have saidאַתָּהat/TAyouוְצִיבָאve/Tsi/VAand Zibaתַּחְלְקוּtach/le/KUshall divideאֶת־הַשָּׂדֶה׃et-has/sa/DEthe field

    And the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I have said, Thou and Ziba divide the land.

31. 31

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidמְפִיבֹשֶׁתMe/fi/VO/shetMephiboshethאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingגַּםgamevenאֶת־הַכֹּלet-hak/KOLthe wholeיִקָּחyik/KACHlet him takeאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterאֲשֶׁר־בָּאa/SHER-bathat has comeאֲדֹנִיa/do/NImy lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingבְּשָׁלוֹםbe/sha/LOMin peaceאֶל־בֵּיתוֹ׃el-be/TOto his house

    And Mephibosheth said unto the king, Yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come again in peace unto his own house.

32. 32

    וּבַרְזִלַּיu/Var/zil/LAYand Barzillaiהַגִּלְעָדִיhag/Gil/a/DIthe Gileaditeיָרַדya/RADcame downמֵרֹגְלִיםme/Rog/LIMfrom Rogelimוַיַּעֲבֹרvay/ya/a/VORand crossedאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhwith the kingהַיַּרְדֵּןhay/Yar/DENthe Jordanלְשַׁלְּחוֹle/shal/le/CHOto send him offאֶת־[הַיַּרְדֵּן]et-Hay/yar/DENthe Jordan(בירדן)׃vayaradan

    And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan.

33. 33

    וּבַרְזִלַּיu/Var/zil/LAYand Barzillaiזָקֵןza/KENwas oldמְאֹדme/ODveryבֶּן־שְׁמֹנִיםben-she/mo/NIMa son of eightyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsוְהוּא־כִלְכַּלve/HU-khil/KALand he had provided forאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingבְּשִׁיבָתוֹbe/shi/va/TOwhile he stayedבְמַחֲנַיִםve/Ma/cha/NA/yimin Mahanaimכִּי־אִישׁki-ishfor a manגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatהוּאhuwas heמְאֹד׃me/ODvery

    Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king of sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.

34. 34

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶל־בַּרְזִלָּיel-Bar/zil/LAYto Barzillaiאַתָּהat/TAyouעֲבֹרa/VORcross overאִתִּיit/TIwith meוְכִלְכַּלְתִּיve/khil/kal/TIand I will provide forאֹתְךָot/KHAyouעִמָּדִיim/ma/DIwith meבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃bI/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalem

    And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will feed thee with me in Jerusalem.

35. 35

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidבַּרְזִלַּיBar/zil/LAYBarzillaiאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingכַּמָּהkam/MAhow many areיְמֵיye/MEthe days ofשְׁנֵיshe/NEthe years ofחַיַּיchay/YAYmy lifeכִּי־אֶעֱלֶהki-e/e/LEthat I should go upאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhwith the kingיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalem

    And Barzillai said unto the king, How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?

36. 36

    בֶּן־שְׁמֹנִיםben-she/mo/NIMa son of eightyשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIam Iהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthis dayהַאֵדַעha/e/DAdo I knowבֵּין־טוֹבben-tovbetween goodלְרָעle/RAand evilאִם־יִטְעַםim-yit/AMor can tasteעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERwhatאֹכַלo/KHALI eatוְאֶת־אֲשֶׁרve/ET-a/SHERand whatאֶשְׁתֶּהesh/TEI drinkאִם־אֶשְׁמַעim-esh/MAor can I hearעוֹדodstillבְּקוֹלbe/KOLthe voice ofשָׁרִיםsha/RIMsinging menוְשָׁרוֹתve/sha/ROTand singing womenוְלָמָּהve/LAM/maand whyיִהְיֶהyih/YEshall beעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantעוֹדodstillלְמַשָּׂאle/mas/SAa burdenאֶל־אֲדֹנִיel-a/do/NIto my lordהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?

37. 37

    כִּמְעַטkim/ATjust a littleיַעֲבֹרya/a/VORwill crossעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantאֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּןet-Hay/yar/DENthe Jordanאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhwith the kingוְלָמָּהve/LAM/maand whyיִגְמְלֵנִיyig/me/LE/nishould repay meהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingהַגְּמוּלָהhag/ge/mu/LAthe rewardהַזֹּאת׃haz/ZOTthis

    Thy servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?

38. 38

    יָשׇׁב־נָאya/SHOV-nalet return I prayעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantוְאָמֻתve/a/MUTand let me dieבְּעִירִיbe/i/RIin my own cityעִםimbyקֶבֶרKE/verthe grave ofאָבִיa/VImy fatherוְאִמִּיve/im/MIand my motherוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdעַבְדְּךָav/de/KHAyour servantכִמְהָםKhim/HAMChimhamיַעֲבֹרya/a/VORlet him crossעִם־אֲדֹנִיim-a/do/NIwith my lordהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַעֲשֵׂה־לוֹva/a/SE-loand do to himאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־טוֹבet-a/SHER-tovwhat is goodבְּעֵינֶיךָ׃be/e/NE/khain your eyes

    Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.

39. 39

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאִתִּיit/TIwith meיַעֲבֹרya/a/VORshall crossכִּמְהָםKim/HAMChimhamוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iאֶעֱשֶׂה־לּוֹe/e/SE-loI will do to himאֶת־הַטּוֹבet-hat/TOVwhat is goodבְּעֵינֶיךָbe/e/NE/khain your eyesוְכֹלve/KHOLand allאֲשֶׁר־תִּבְחַרa/SHER-tiv/CHARthat you chooseעָלַיa/LAYof meאֶעֱשֶׂה־לָּךְ׃e/e/SE-lakhthat will I do for you

    And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.

40. 40

    וַיַּעֲבֹרvay/ya/a/VORand crossedכׇּל־הָעָםkol-ha/AMall the peopleאֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּןet-Hay/yar/DENthe Jordanוְהַמֶּלֶךְve/ham/ME/lekhand the kingעָבָרa/VARhad crossedוַיִּשַּׁקvay/yish/SHAKand kissedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלְבַרְזִלַּיLe/var/zil/LAYBarzillaiוַיְבָרְכֵהוּvay/va/re/KHE/huand blessed himוַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand he returnedלִמְקֹמוֹ׃lim/ko/MOto his place

    And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king was come over, the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.

41. 41

    וַיַּעֲבֹרvay/ya/a/VORand crossedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingהַגִּלְגָּלָהhag/Gil/GA/lato Gilgalוְכִמְהָןve/Khim/HANand Chimhamעָבַרa/VARcrossedעִמּוֹim/MOwith himוְכׇל־עַםve/KHOL-amand all the people ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudah(ויעברו)vayvarav[הֶעֱבִירוּ]he/e/VI/rubrought overאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingוְגַםve/GAMand alsoחֲצִיcha/TSIhalf ofעַםamthe people ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    Then the king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him: and all the people of Judah conducted the king, and also half the people of Israel.

42. 42

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdכׇּל־אִישׁkol-ishall the men ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelבָּאִיםba/IMwere comingאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhto the kingמַדּוּעַmad/DU/awhyגְּנָבוּךָge/na/VU/khahave stolen youאַחֵינוּa/CHE/nuour brothersאִישׁishthe men ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוַיַּעֲבִרוּvay/ya/a/VI/ruand have brought overאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingוְאֶת־בֵּיתוֹve/ET-be/TOand his householdאֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּןet-Hay/yar/DENthe Jordanוְכׇל־אַנְשֵׁיve/KHOL-an/SHEand all the men ofדָוִדDa/VIDDavidעִמּוֹ׃im/MOwith him

    And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and have brought the king, and his household, and all David's men with him, over Jordan?

43. 43

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredכׇּל־אִישׁkol-ishall the men ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahעַל־אִישׁal-ishthe men ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelכִּי־קָרוֹבki-ka/ROVfor nearהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֵלַיe/LAYto meוְלָמָּהve/LAM/maand whyזֶּהzethisחָרָהcha/RAare you angryלְךָle/KHAfor youעַל־הַדָּבָרal-had/da/VARover the matterהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisהֶאָכוֹלhe/a/KHOLeatאָכַלְנוּa/KHAL/nuhave we eatenמִן־הַמֶּלֶךְmin-ham/ME/lekhfrom the kingאִם־נִשֵּׂאתim-nis/SETor carriedנִשָּׂאnis/SAhas been carriedלָנוּ׃LA/nuto us

    And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: wherefore then be ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king's cost? or hath he given us any gift?

44. 44

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredאִישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵלish-Yis/ra/ELthe men of Israelאֶת־אִישׁet-ishthe men ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidעֶשֶׂר־יָדוֹתE/ser-ya/DOTten sharesלִיlito meבַמֶּלֶךְvam/ME/lekhin the kingוְגַם־בְּדָוִדve/GAM-be/da/VIDand also in Davidאֲנִיa/NIIמִמְּךָmim/me/KHAmore than youוּמַדּוּעַu/mad/DU/aand whyהֱקִלֹּתַנִיhe/kil/lo/TA/nidid you despise meוְלֹא־הָיָהve/LO-HA/yaand was notדְבָרִיde/va/RImy wordרִאשׁוֹןri/SHONfirstלִיlito meלְהָשִׁיבle/ha/SHIVto bring backאֶת־מַלְכִּיet-mal/KImy kingוַיִּקֶשׁvay/YI/keshand was harderדְּבַר־אִישׁde/VAR-ishthe word of the men ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahמִדְּבַרmid/de/VARthan the word ofאִישׁishthe men ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
