   Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?

   When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel's sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?

   Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Beth-el, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:

   וְשָׁאֲלוּve/sha/a/LUand they will greetלְךָle/KHAyouלְשָׁלוֹםle/sha/LOMin peaceוְנָתְנוּve/na/te/NUand giveלְךָle/KHAyouשְׁתֵּי־לֶחֶםshte-LE/chemtwo loavesוְלָקַחְתָּve/la/kach/TAwhich you shall takeמִיָּדָם׃miy/ya/DAMfrom their hand

   And they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.

   אַחַרa/CHARafterכֵּןkenthatתָּבוֹאta/VOyou shall come toגִּבְעַתgiv/ATthe hill ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֲשֶׁר־שָׁםa/SHER-shamwhere isנְצִבֵיne/tsi/VEthe garrison ofפְלִשְׁתִּיםFe/lish/TIMthe Philistinesוִיהִיvi/HIand it shall beכְבֹאֲךָkhe/vo/a/KHAwhen you comeשָׁםshamthereהָעִירha/IRto the cityוּפָגַעְתָּu/fa/ga/TAthat you shall meetחֶבֶלCHE/vela band ofנְבִאִיםne/vi/IMprophetsיֹרְדִיםyor/DIMcoming downמֵהַבָּמָהme/hab/ba/MAfrom the high placeוְלִפְנֵיהֶםve/lif/ne/HEMand before themנֵבֶלNE/vela harpוְתֹףve/TOFand tambourineוְחָלִילve/cha/LILand pipeוְכִנּוֹרve/khin/NORand lyreוְהֵמָּהve/HEM/maand theyמִתְנַבְּאִים׃mit/nab/be/IMshall be prophesying

   After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:

   וְצָלְחָהve/tsa/le/CHAand will come mightilyעָלֶיךָa/LE/khaupon youרוּחַRU/achthe Spirit ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְהִתְנַבִּיתָve/hit/nab/BI/taand you shall prophesyעִמָּםim/MAMwith themוְנֶהְפַּכְתָּve/neh/pakh/TAand be turned intoלְאִישׁle/ISHa manאַחֵר׃a/CHERanother

   And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

   וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand let it beכִּיkiwhen(תבאינה)tavyanah[תָבֹאנָה]ta/VO/nathey shall comeהָאֹתוֹתha/o/TOTthe signsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseלָךְlakhto youעֲשֵׂהa/SEdoלְךָle/KHAfor yourselfאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhateverתִּמְצָאtim/TSAfindsיָדֶךָya/DE/khayour handכִּיkiforהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodעִמָּךְ׃im/MAKHwith you

   And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

   וְיָרַדְתָּve/ya/rad/TAand you shall go downלְפָנַיle/fa/NAYbefore meהַגִּלְגָּלhag/Gil/GALto Gilgalוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIיֹרֵדyo/REDam coming downאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youלְהַעֲלוֹתle/ha/a/LOTto offerעֹלוֹתo/LOTburnt offeringsלִזְבֹּחַliz/BO/achto sacrificeזִבְחֵיziv/CHEsacrifices ofשְׁלָמִיםshe/la/MIMpeace offeringsשִׁבְעַתshiv/ATsevenיָמִיםya/MIMdaysתּוֹחֵלto/CHELyou shall waitעַד־בּוֹאִיad-bo/Iuntil I comeאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youוְהוֹדַעְתִּיve/ho/da/TIand showלְךָle/KHAyouאֵת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERwhatתַּעֲשֶׂה׃ta/a/SEyou shall do

   And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.

   וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it wasכְּהַפְנֹתוֹke/haf/no/TOwhen he turnedשִׁכְמוֹshikh/MOhis backלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goמֵעִםme/IMfromשְׁמוּאֵלShe/mu/ELSamuelוַיַּהֲפׇךְ־לוֹvay/ya/ha/FOKH-lothat changed for himאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodלֵבleva heartאַחֵרa/CHERanotherוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand came aboutכׇּל־הָאֹתוֹתkol-ha/o/TOTall the signsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַהוּא׃ha/HUthat

   And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

    וַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uwhen they cameשָׁםshamthereהַגִּבְעָתָהhag/Giv/A/tato Gibeahוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdחֶבֶל־נְבִאִיםCHE/vel-ne/vi/IMa band of prophetsלִקְרָאתוֹlik/ra/TOto meet himוַתִּצְלַחvat/tits/LACHand came mightilyעָלָיוa/LAYVupon himרוּחַRU/achthe Spirit ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוַיִּתְנַבֵּאvay/yit/nab/BEand he prophesiedבְּתוֹכָם׃be/to/KHAMamong them

    And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכׇּל־יוֹדְעוֹkol-yod/Owhen all who knew himמֵאִתְּמוֹלme/it/te/MOLfrom yesterdayשִׁלְשֹׁםshil/SHOMand beforeוַיִּרְאוּvay/yir/Uand they sawוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdעִם־נְבִאִיםim-ne/vi/IMamong the prophetsנִבָּאnib/BAprophesyingוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהָעָםha/AMthe peopleאִישׁishoneאֶל־רֵעֵהוּel-re/E/huto anotherמַה־זֶּהma-zewhat is thisהָיָהha/YAthat has comeלְבֶן־קִישׁle/VEN-kishto the son of Kishהֲגַםha/GAMis alsoשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulבַּנְּבִיאִים׃ban/ne/vi/IMamong the prophets

    And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredאִישׁisha manמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidוּמִיu/MIbut who isאֲבִיהֶםa/vi/HEMtheir fatherעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeהָיְתָהha/ye/TAit becameלְמָשָׁלle/ma/SHALa proverbהֲגַםha/GAMis alsoשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulבַּנְּבִאִים׃ban/ne/vi/IMamong the prophets

    And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?

    וַיְכַלvay/KHALand he finishedמֵהִתְנַבּוֹתme/hit/nab/BOTprophesyingוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameהַבָּמָה׃hab/ba/MAto the high place

    And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדּוֹדdodthe uncle ofשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himוְאֶל־נַעֲרוֹve/EL-na/a/ROand his servantאָןanwhereהֲלַכְתֶּםha/lakh/TEMdid you goוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלְבַקֵּשׁle/vak/KESHto seekאֶת־הָאֲתֹנוֹתet-ha/a/to/NOTthe donkeysוַנִּרְאֶהvan/nir/Eand when we sawכִי־אַיִןkhi-A/yinthat they were nowhereוַנָּבוֹאvan/na/VOwe cameאֶל־שְׁמוּאֵל׃el-She/mu/ELto Samuel

    And Saul's uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were no where, we came to Samuel.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidדּוֹדdodthe uncle ofשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulהַגִּידָה־נָּאhag/GI/da-natell me I prayלִיlimeמָה־אָמַרma-a/MARwhat saidלָכֶםla/KHEMto youשְׁמוּאֵל׃She/mu/ELSamuel

    And Saul's uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulאֶל־דּוֹדוֹel-do/DOto his uncleהַגֵּדhag/GEDtellהִגִּידhig/GIDhe toldלָנוּLA/nuusכִּיkithatנִמְצְאוּnim/tse/Uhad been foundהָאֲתֹנוֹתha/a/to/NOTthe donkeysוְאֶת־דְּבַרve/ET-de/VARbut of the matter ofהַמְּלוּכָהham/me/lu/KHAthe kingdomלֹא־הִגִּידlo-hig/GIDhe did not tellלוֹlohimאֲשֶׁרa/SHERof whichאָמַרa/MARhad spokenשְׁמוּאֵל׃She/mu/ELSamuel

    And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.

    וַיַּצְעֵקvay/yats/EKand called togetherשְׁמוּאֵלShe/mu/ELSamuelאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleאֶל־יְהֹוָהel-Adonaito the LORDהַמִּצְפָּה׃ham/Mits/PAto Mizpah

    And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpeh;

18. 18

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־בְּנֵיel-be/NEto the children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֱלֹהֵיe/lo/HEthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIהֶעֱלֵיתִיhe/e/LE/tibrought upאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelמִמִּצְרָיִםmim/Mits/RA/yimfrom Egyptוָאַצִּילva/ats/TSILand deliveredאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouמִיַּדmiy/YADfrom the hand ofמִצְרַיִםMits/RA/yimEgyptוּמִיַּדu/miy/YADand from the hand ofכׇּל־הַמַּמְלָכוֹתkol-ham/mam/la/KHOTall the kingdomsהַלֹּחֲצִיםhal/lo/cha/TSIMthat oppressedאֶתְכֶם׃et/KHEMyou

    And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:

19. 19

    וְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youהַיּוֹםhay/YOMtodayמְאַסְתֶּםme/as/TEMhave rejectedאֶת־אֱלֹהֵיכֶםet-e/lo/he/KHEMyour Godאֲשֶׁר־הוּאa/SHER-huwho Himselfמוֹשִׁיעַmo/SHI/asavesלָכֶםla/KHEMyouמִכׇּל־רָעוֹתֵיכֶםmik/KOL-ra/o/te/KHEMfrom all your calamitiesוְצָרֹתֵיכֶםve/tsa/ro/te/KHEMand your distressesוַתֹּאמְרוּvat/to/me/RUand you have saidלוֹloto Himכִּי־מֶלֶךְki-ME/lekhbut a kingתָּשִׂיםta/SIMsetעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuover usוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִתְיַצְּבוּhit/yats/tse/VUpresent yourselvesלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלְשִׁבְטֵיכֶםle/shiv/te/KHEMby your tribesוּלְאַלְפֵיכֶם׃u/le/al/fe/KHEMand by your thousands

    And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.

20. 20

    וַיַּקְרֵבvay/yak/REVand brought nearשְׁמוּאֵלShe/mu/ELSamuelאֵת־כׇּל־שִׁבְטֵיet-kol-shiv/TEall the tribes ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelוַיִּלָּכֵדvay/yil/la/KHEDand was takenשֵׁבֶטSHE/vetthe tribe ofבִּנְיָמִן׃Bin/ya/MINBenjamin

    And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.

21. 21

    וַיַּקְרֵבvay/yak/REVand he brought nearאֶת־שֵׁבֶטet-SHE/vetthe tribe ofבִּנְיָמִןBin/ya/MINBenjaminלְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָוle/mish/pe/cho/TAVby its clansוַתִּלָּכֵדvat/til/la/KHEDand was takenמִשְׁפַּחַתmish/PA/chatthe clan ofהַמַּטְרִיham/Mat/RIthe Matritesוַיִּלָּכֵדvay/yil/la/KHEDand was takenשָׁאוּלSha/ULSaulבֶּן־קִישׁben-Kishthe son of Kishוַיְבַקְשֻׁהוּvay/vak/SHU/huand they sought himוְלֹאve/LObut notנִמְצָא׃nim/TSAhe was found

    When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.

    וַיִּשְׁאֲלוּ־עוֹדvay/yish/a/LU-odso they asked againבַּיהֹוָהba-Adonaiof the LORDהֲבָאha/VAhas comeעוֹדodyetהֲלֹםha/LOMhereאִישׁishthe manוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהִנֵּה־הוּאhin/NE-hubehold he hasנֶחְבָּאnech/BAhidden himselfאֶל־הַכֵּלִים׃el-hak/ke/LIMamong the baggage

    Therefore they enquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff.

    וַיָּרֻצוּvay/ya/RU/tsuand they ranוַיִּקָּחֻהוּvay/yik/ka/CHU/huand fetched himמִשָּׁםmish/SHAMfrom thereוַיִּתְיַצֵּבvay/yit/yats/TSEVand when he stoodבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongהָעָםha/AMthe peopleוַיִּגְבַּהּvay/yig/BAhe was tallerמִכׇּל־הָעָםmik/KOL-ha/AMthan all the peopleמִשִּׁכְמוֹmish/shikh/MOfrom his shouldersוָמָעְלָה׃va/MA/laand upward

    And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidשְׁמוּאֵלShe/mu/ELSamuelאֶל־כׇּל־הָעָםel-kol-ha/AMto all the peopleהַרְּאִיתֶםhar/re/i/TEMdo you seeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomבָּחַר־בּוֹba/CHAR-bohas chosenיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDכִּיkithatאֵיןenthere is noneכָּמֹהוּka/MO/hulike himבְּכׇל־הָעָםbe/KHOL-ha/AMamong all the peopleוַיָּרִעוּvay/ya/RI/uand shoutedכׇל־הָעָםkhol-ha/AMall the peopleוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidיְחִיye/CHIlong liveהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.

    וַיְדַבֵּרvay/dab/BERand toldשְׁמוּאֵלShe/mu/ELSamuelאֶל־הָעָםel-ha/AMto the peopleאֵת־מִשְׁפַּטet-mish/PATthe manner ofהַמְּלֻכָהham/me/lu/KHAthe kingdomוַיִּכְתֹּבvay/yikh/TOVand he wroteבַּסֵּפֶרbas/SE/ferin a bookוַיַּנַּחvay/yan/NACHand laid it upלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיְשַׁלַּחvay/shal/LACHand sent awayשְׁמוּאֵלShe/mu/ELSamuelאֶת־כׇּל־הָעָםet-kol-ha/AMall the peopleאִישׁishevery manלְבֵיתוֹ׃le/ve/TOto his house

    Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

    וְגַם־שָׁאוּלve/GAM-sha/ULand Saul alsoהָלַךְha/LAKHwentלְבֵיתוֹle/ve/TOto his houseגִּבְעָתָהGiv/A/tato Gibeahוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentעִמּוֹim/MOwith himהַחַיִלha/CHA/yilthe men of valorאֲשֶׁר־נָגַעa/SHER-na/GAwhom had touchedאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodבְּלִבָּם׃be/lib/BAMtheir hearts

    And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.

    וּבְנֵיu/ve/NEbut sons ofבְלִיַּעַלve/liy/YA/alworthlessnessאָמְרוּa/me/RUsaidמַה־יֹּשִׁעֵנוּma-yo/shi/E/nuhow shall save usזֶהzethisוַיִּבְזֻהוּvay/yiv/ZU/huand they despised himוְלֹא־הֵבִיאוּve/LO-he/VI/uand brought notלוֹlohimמִנְחָהmin/CHAa presentוַיְהִיvay/HIbut he wasכְּמַחֲרִישׁ׃ke/ma/cha/RISHas one keeping silent

    But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.
