   O God, where art thou? And where is the pavilion that covereth thy hiding place?

   עַד־מָתַיad-ma/TAYhow longתֵּחָשֵׂךְte/cha/SEKHshall be stayedיָדֶךָya/DE/khayour handוְעֵינְךָve/e/ne/KHAand your eyeאָכֵןa/KHENyeaעֵינְךָe/ne/KHAyour eyeהַטְּהוֹרָהhat/te/ho/RAthe pureתַּבִּיטtab/BITbeholdמִשְּׁמֵיmish/she/MEfrom heavensעַדadeternalעַל־עַוְלוֹתal-av/LOTupon the wrongsעַמְּךָam/me/KHAof your peopleוַעֲבָדֶיךָva/a/va/DE/khaand of your servantsוְאׇזְנְךָve/oz/ne/KHAand your earתִּנָּקֵבtin/na/KEVbe penetratedבְּזַעֲקָתָם׃be/za/a/ka/TAMwith their cries

   How long shall thy hand be stayed, and thine eye, yea thy pure eye, behold from the eternal heavens the wrongs of thy people and of thy servants, and thine ear be penetrated with their cries?

   Yea, O Lord, how long shall they suffer these wrongs and unlawful oppressions, before thine heart shall be softened toward them, and thy bowels be moved with compassion toward them?

   O Lord God Almighty, maker of heaven, earth, and seas, and of all things that in them are, and who controllest and subjectest the devil, and the dark and benighted dominion of Sheol—stretch forth thy hand; let thine eye pierce; let thy pavilion be taken up; let thy hiding place no longer be covered; let thine ear be inclined; let thine heart be softened, and thy bowels moved with compassion toward us.

   Let thine anger be kindled against our enemies; and, in the fury of thine heart, with thy sword avenge us of our wrongs.

   Remember thy suffering saints, O our God; and thy servants will rejoice in thy name forever.

   בְּנִיbe/NImy sonשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceלְנַפְשֶׁךָle/naf/SHE/khabe unto your soulצָרָתְךָtsa/ra/te/KHAyour adversityוְעׇנְיְךָve/on/ye/KHAand your afflictionsאַךְ־רֶגַעakh-RE/gashall be but a momentקָטֹן׃ka/TONsmall

   My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment;

   וְאַחַרve/a/CHARand thenאִםimifתִּשָּׂאtis/SAyou endureבְּטוֹבbe/TOVwellיְרוֹמִמְךָye/ro/mim/KHAshall exalt youאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodלַמָּרוֹםlam/ma/ROMon highוְתִגְבַּרve/tig/BARyou shall triumphעַלaloverכׇּל־צֹרְרֶיךָ׃kol-tsor/re/KHAall your foes

   And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes.

   רֵעֶיךָre/E/khayour friendsעֹמְדִיםom/DIMdo standעִמְּךָim/me/KHAby youוְיִקְרְאוּve/yik/re/Uand they shall hailלְךָle/KHAyouעוֹדodagainבְּלִבּוֹתbe/lib/BOTwith heartsחַמִּיםcham/MIMwarmוּבְיָדַיִםu/ve/ya/DA/yimand handsאוֹהֲבוֹת׃o/ha/VOTfriendly

   Thy friends do stand by thee, and they shall hail thee again with warm hearts and friendly hands.

    לֹאlonotכְּאִיּוֹבke/Iy/YOVas Jobאַתָּהat/TAyou areעֲדֶנָהa/DE/nayetרֵעֶיךָre/E/khayour friendsלֹאlonotיָרִיבוּya/ri/VUdo contendעִמְּךָim/me/KHAagainst youוְלֹאve/LOand notיַאֲשִׁימוּךָya/a/shi/mu/KHAcharge youבְּפֶשַׁעbe/FE/shawith transgressionכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasעָשׂוּa/SUthey didלְאִיּוֹב׃Le/iy/YOVJob

    Thou art not yet as Job; thy friends do not contend against thee, neither charge thee with transgression, as they did Job.

    וְהַמַּאֲשִׁימִיםve/ham/ma/a/shi/MIMand they who chargeאוֹתְךָot/KHAyouבְּפֶשַׁעbe/FE/shawith transgressionתִּקְוָתָםtik/va/TAMtheir hopeתֹּאבַדto/VADshall be blastedוּמַבָּטָםu/mab/ba/TAMand their prospectsיִמַּסyim/MASshall melt awayכַּכְּפוֹרkak/ke/FORas the hoar frostהַנָּמֵסhan/na/MESmeltsלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeלַהַטLA/hatthe burningקַרְנֵיkar/NEraysשֶׁמֶשׁSHE/meshof the sunעֹלָה׃o/LArising

    And they who do charge thee with transgression, their hope shall be blasted, and their prospects shall melt away as the hoar frost melteth before the burning rays of the rising sun;

    וְגַםve/GAMand alsoכִּיkithatאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodשָׂםsamsetיָדוֹya/DOhis handוְחוֹתָמוֹve/cho/ta/MOand his sealלְהַחֲלִיףle/ha/cha/LIFto changeעִתִּיםit/TIMthe timesוּזְמַנִּיםu/ze/man/NIMand seasonsוּלְעַוֵּרu/le/av/VERand to blindאֶת־דַּעְתָּםet-da/TAMtheir mindsלְבַלle/VALthat notיָבִינוּya/VI/nuthey may understandאֶת־נִפְלְאוֹתָיוet-nif/le/o/TAYVhis marvelous worksלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיִבְחָנֵםyiv/cha/NEMhe may prove themוְיִתְפְּשֵׂםve/yit/pe/SEMand take themבְּעׇרְמָתָם׃be/or/ma/TAMin their craftiness

    And also that God hath set his hand and seal to change the times and seasons, and to blind their minds, that they may not understand his marvelous workings; that he may prove them also and take them in their own craftiness;

13. 13

    וְגַםve/GAMalsoכִּיkibecauseלִבָּםlib/BAMtheir heartsנִשְׁחָתnish/CHATare corruptedוְאֵתve/ETand the thingsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהֵםhemthey areחֲפֵצִיםcha/fe/TSIMwillingלְהָבִיאle/ha/VIto bringעַלaluponאֲחֵרִיםa/che/RIMothersוְאוֹהֲבִיםve/o/ha/VIMand loveלְעַנּוֹתle/an/NOTto have sufferאֲחֵרִיםa/che/RIMothersיָבוֹאya/VOmay comeעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themselvesהֵמָּהHEM/mathemselvesעַדadto the veryתַּכְלִית׃takh/LITuttermost

    Also because their hearts are corrupted, and the things which they are willing to bring upon others, and love to have others suffer, may come upon themselves to the very uttermost;

14. 14

    לְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיֵבֹשׁוּye/VO/shuthey may be disappointedגַּםgamalsoהֵםhemtheyוְתִקְוָתָםve/tik/va/TAMand their hopesתִּכָּרֵת׃tik/ka/RETmay be cut off

    That they may be disappointed also, and their hopes may be cut off;

15. 15

    וּבְעוֹדu/ve/ODand henceשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsלֹאlonotרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyהֵםhemthat theyוְזַרְעָםve/zar/AMand their posterityיִסָּפוּyis/sa/FUshall be sweptמִתַּחַתmit/TA/chatfrom underהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimheavenנְאֻםne/UMsaysאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERthatלֹאlonotיִשָּׁאֵרyish/sha/ERis leftאֶחָדe/CHADone of themלַעֲמֹדla/a/MODto standעַל־הַחוֹמָה׃al-ha/cho/MAby the wall

    And not many years hence, that they and their posterity shall be swept from under heaven, saith God, that not one of them is left to stand by the wall.

16. 16

    אֲרוּרִיםa/ru/RIMcursed areכׇּל־מְרִימֵיkol-me/ri/MEall those that lift upעָקֵבa/KEVthe heelעַלalagainstמְשִׁיחַיme/shi/CHAYmy anointedנְאֻםne/UMsaysיְהוָהAdonaithe Lordוְקוֹרְאִיםve/kor/IMand cryחָטְאוּcha/te/Uthey sinnedוְלֹאve/LOand notחָטְאוּcha/te/Uthey sinnedלְפָנַיle/fa/NAYbefore meנְאֻםne/UMsaysיְהוָהAdonaithe Lordכִּי־אִםki-imbutעָשׂוּa/SUdidהַיָּשָׁרhay/ya/SHARthat which was meetבְּעֵינַיbe/e/NAYin my eyesוַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand whichצִוִּיתִים׃tsiv/vi/TIMI commanded them

    Cursed are all those that shall lift up the heel against mine anointed, saith the Lord, and cry they have sinned when they have not sinned before me, saith the Lord, but have done that which was meet in mine eyes, and which I commanded them.

    וְהַקּוֹרְאִיםve/hak/kor/IMbut those who cryפֶּשַׁעPE/shatransgressionעֹשִׂיםo/SIMdoכֵּןkensoכִּיkibecauseעַבְדֵיav/DEthe servantsחֵטְאchetof sinהֵםhemthey areוּבְנֵיu/ve/NEand the childrenמֶרִיME/riof disobedienceהֵמָּה׃hem/MAthemselves

    But those who cry transgression do it because they are the servants of sin, and are the children of disobedience themselves.

18. 18

    וְהַנִּשְׁבָּעִיםve/han/nish/ba/IMand those who swearלַשֶּׁקֶרlash/SHE/kerfalselyעַלalagainstעֲבָדַיa/va/DAYmy servantsלַהֲבִיאָםla/ha/vi/AMthat they might bring themבְּעַבְדוּתbe/av/DUTinto bondageוָמָוֶת׃va/ma/VETand death

    And those who swear falsely against my servants, that they might bring them into bondage and death—

19. 19

    אוֹיoywoלָהֶםla/HEMunto themכִּיkibecauseהִכְשִׁילוּhikh/shi/LUthey offendedאֶת־קְטַנַּיet-ke/tan/NAYmy little onesיִכָּרְתוּyik/ka/re/TUthey shall be severedמֵחֻקּוֹתme/chuk/KOTfrom the ordinancesבֵּיתִי׃be/TIof my house

    Wo unto them; because they have offended my little ones they shall be severed from the ordinances of mine house.

20. 20

    טַנְאָםtan/AMtheir basketלֹאlonotיִמָּלֵאyim/MA/leshall be fullבָּתֵּיהֶםbat/te/HEMtheir housesוַאֲסָמֵיהֶםva/a/sa/me/HEMand their barnsיֹאבֵדוּyo/VE/dushall perishוְהֵםve/HEMand they themselvesיִהְיוּyih/YUshall beלְבוּזle/VUZdespisedבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyesהַמַּחֲלִיקִיםham/ma/cha/li/KIMof those that flatteredלָהֶם׃la/HEMthem

    Their basket shall not be full, their houses and their barns shall perish, and they themselves shall be despised by those that flattered them.

21. 21

    לֹאlonotתִּהְיֶהtih/YEthey shall haveלָהֶםla/HEMunto themזְכוּתze/KHUTrightבַּכְּהֻנָּהbak/ke/hun/NAto the priesthoodוְלֹאve/LOnorלְזַרְעָםle/zar/AMtheir posterityאַחֲרֵיהֶםa/cha/re/HEMafter themמִדּוֹרmid/DORfrom generationלָדוֹר׃la/DORto generation

    They shall not have right to the priesthood, nor their posterity after them from generation to generation.

22. 22

    טוֹבtovbetterהָיָהha/YAit had beenלָהֶםla/HEMfor themלוּluthatנִתְלָהnit/LAhad been hangedפֶּלַחPE/lacha millstoneרֶכֶבRE/khevupperעַלalaboutצַוָּארָםtsav/va/RAMtheir necksוְהֻטְבְּעוּve/hut/be/Uand they drownedבִּמְצוּלוֹתbim/tsu/LOTin the depthיָם׃yamof the sea

    It had been better for them that a millstone had been hanged about their necks, and they drowned in the depth of the sea.

23. 23

    אוֹיoywo untoלְכׇל־מֵצִיקֵיle/KHOL-me/tsi/KEall those that discomfortעַמִּיam/MImy peopleוּמְגָרְשֵׁיהֶםu/me/ga/re/she/HEMand driveוְרֹצְחֵיהֶםve/rots/che/HEMand murderוְהַמְּעִידִיםve/ham/me/i/DIMand testifyנֶגְדָּםneg/DAMagainst themנְאֻםne/UMsaysיְהוָהAdonaithe LordצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsדּוֹרdora generationאֶפְעֶהef/Eof vipersלֹאlonotיִמָּלֵטyim/ma/LETshall escapeמִדִּינֵיmid/di/NEthe damnationגֵּיהִנֹּם׃ge/hin/NOMof hell

    Wo unto all those that discomfort my people, and drive, and murder, and testify against them, saith the Lord of Hosts; a generation of vipers shall not escape the damnation of hell.

24. 24

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdעֵינַיe/NAYmy eyesרֹאוֹתro/OTseeוְיֹדְעוֹתve/yod/OTand knowאֶת־כׇּל־מַעֲשֵׂיהֶםet-kol-ma/a/se/HEMall their worksוְיֶשׁ־לִיve/YESH-liand I haveמִשְׁפָּטmish/PATa judgmentמָהִירma/HIRswiftשָׁמוּרsha/MURin reserveבְּעִתּוֹbe/it/TOin the season thereofלְכֻלָּם׃le/khul/LAMfor them all

    Behold, mine eyes see and know all their works, and I have in reserve a swift judgment in the season thereof, for them all;

25. 25

    כִּיkiforיֵשׁyeshthere isעֵתeta timeמוּעָדָהmu/a/DAappointedלְכׇל־אִישׁle/KHOL-ishfor every manכְּפִיke/FIaccording asמַעֲשָׂיו׃ma/a/SAYVhis works shall be

    For there is a time appointed for every man, according as his works shall be.

26. 26

    אֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodיִתֵּןyit/TENshall giveלָכֶםla/KHEMyouדַּעַתDA/atknowledgeבְּרוּחַ־קׇדְשׁוֹbe/RU/ach-kod/SHOby his Holy Spiritאָכֵןa/KHENyeaבְּמַתְּנַתbe/mat/te/NATby the giftרוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁRU/ach-Hak/KO/deshof the Holy Ghostאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאֵיןencannotלְבַטֵּאle/vat/TEto utterאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלֹאlonotנִגְלְתָהnig/le/TAhas been revealedמֵאָזme/AZsinceהָיָהha/YAwasעוֹלָםo/LAMthe worldעַדaduntilעַתָּה׃at/TAnow

    God shall give unto you knowledge by his Holy Spirit, yea, by the unspeakable gift of the Holy Ghost, that has not been revealed since the world was until now;

27. 27

    אֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichחִכּוּchik/KUawaitedלָהּlafor itאֲבוֹתֵינוּa/vo/TE/nuour forefathersבְּתוֹחֶלֶתbe/to/CHE/letwith anxious expectationנַפְשָׁםnaf/SHAMof their soulלְהִגָּלוֹתle/hig/ga/LOTto be revealedבְּאַחֲרִיתbe/a/cha/RITin the lastהַיָּמִיםhay/ya/MIMtimesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהֶרְאוּher/Upointedלָהֶםla/HEMthemהַמַּלְאָכִיםham/mal/a/KHIMthe angelsכִּיkiasשְׁמוּרָהshe/mu/RAheld in reserveהִיאhiit isלִמְלֹאlim/LOfor the fulnessכְבוֹדָם׃khe/vo/DAMof their glory

    Which our forefathers have awaited with anxious expectation to be revealed in the last times, which their minds were pointed to by the angels, as held in reserve for the fulness of their glory;

28. 28

    עֵתeta timeתָּבוֹאta/VOto comeבָּהּbain the whichלֹאlonothingיִמָּנַעyim/ma/NAshall be withheldדָּבָרda/VARany thingאִםimwhether thereאֵלelbe Godאֶחָדe/CHADoneוְאִםve/IMorאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMgodsרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyיִגָּלוּ׃yig/ga/LUthey shall be manifest

    A time to come in the which nothing shall be withheld, whether there be one God or many gods, they shall be manifest.

29. 29

    כׇּל־כִּסְאוֹתkol-kis/OTall thronesוּמֶמְשָׁלוֹתu/mem/sha/LOTand dominionsוּשְׂרָרוֹתu/se/ra/ROTprincipalitiesוְכֹחוֹתve/kho/CHOTand powersיִגָּלוּyig/ga/LUshall be revealedוְיוּשְׂמוּve/yus/MUand set forthעַלaluponכׇּל־הָעֹמְדִיםkol-ha/om/DIMall who enduredבְּעֹזbe/OZvaliantlyלִבְשׂוֹרַתliv/so/RATfor the gospelיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aof Jesusהַמָּשִׁיחַ׃Ham/ma/SHI/achChrist

    All thrones and dominions, principalities and powers, shall be revealed and set forth upon all who have endured valiantly for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

30. 30

    וְגַםve/GAMand alsoאִםimifיֵשׁyeshthere beגְּבוּלוֹתge/vu/LOTbounds setלַשָּׁמַיִםlash/sha/MA/yimto the heavensאוֹoorלַיַּמִּיםlay/yam/MIMto the seasאוֹoorלַיַּבָּשָׁהlay/yab/ba/SHAto the dry landאוֹoorלַשֶּׁמֶשׁlash/SHE/meshto the sunלַיָּרֵחַlay/ya/RE/achmoonאוֹoorלַכּוֹכָבִים׃lak/ko/kha/VIMstars

    And also, if there be bounds set to the heavens or to the seas, or to the dry land, or to the sun, moon, or stars—

    כׇּל־עִתּוֹתkol-it/TOTall the timesתְּקוּפוֹתֵיהֶםte/ku/fo/te/HEMtheir revolutionsוְכׇל־יְמֵיve/KHOL-ye/MEall the daysמוֹעֲדֵיהֶםmo/a/de/HEMappointedוְחׇדְשֵׁיהֶםve/chod/she/HEMmonthsוּשְׁנוֹתֵיהֶםu/she/no/te/HEMand yearsוְכׇל־יְמֵיve/KHOL-ye/MEand all the daysיְמֵיהֶםye/me/HEMof their daysוְחׇדְשֵׁיהֶםve/chod/she/HEMmonthsוּשְׁנוֹתֵיהֶםu/she/no/te/HEMand yearsוְכׇל־כְּבוֹדֵיהֶםve/KHOL-ke/vo/de/HEMand all their gloriesוְתוֹרוֹתֵיהֶםve/to/ro/te/HEMlawsוּמוֹעֲדֵיהֶםu/mo/a/de/HEMand set timesיִגָּלוּyig/ga/LUshall be revealedבִּימֵיbi/MEin the daysתְּקוּפַתte/ku/FATof the dispensationמְלֹאme/LOof the fulnessהָעִתִּים׃ha/it/TIMof times

    All the times of their revolutions, all the appointed days, months, and years, and all the days of their days, months, and years, and all their glories, laws, and set times, shall be revealed in the days of the dispensation of the fulness of times—

    According to that which was ordained in the midst of the Council of the Eternal God of all other gods before this world was, that should be reserved unto the finishing and the end thereof, when every man shall enter into his eternal presence and into his immortal rest.

    How long can rolling waters remain impure? What power shall stay the heavens? As well might man stretch forth his puny arm to stop the Missouri river in its decreed course, or to turn it up stream, as to hinder the Almighty from pouring down knowledge from heaven upon the heads of the Latter-day Saints.

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdרַבִּיםrab/BIMthere are manyהַקְּרוּאִיםhak/ke/ru/IMcalledוּמְעַטִּיםu/me/at/TIMbut fewהַנִּבְחָרִיםhan/niv/cha/RIMare chosenוּמַדּוּעַu/mad/DU/aand whyלֹאlonotנִבְחָרוּ׃niv/cha/RUare they chosen

    Behold, there are many called, but few are chosen. And why are they not chosen?

    כִּיkibecauseלִבָּםlib/BAMtheir heartsשָׁתshatsetמְאֹדme/ODso muchעַלaluponדִּבְרֵיdiv/REthe thingsהָעוֹלָםha/o/LAMof worldהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְהֵםve/HEMand theyשֹׁאֲפִיםsho/a/FIMaspireלִכְבוֹדlikh/VODto the honorsאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMof menוְלֹאve/LOthat notלָמְדוּla/me/DUthey do learnאֶת־הַלֶּקַחet-hal/LE/kachthe lessonהָאֶחָדha/e/CHADoneהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    Because their hearts are set so much upon the things of this world, and aspire to the honors of men, that they do not learn this one lesson—

    כִּיkithatזְכֻיּוֹתze/khuy/YOTthe rightsהַכְּהֻנָּהhak/ke/hun/NAof the priesthoodקְשׁוּרוֹתke/shu/ROTare connectedלִבְלִי־הִפָּרֵדliv/LI-hip/pa/REDinseparablyבְּכֹחוֹתbe/kho/CHOTwith the powersהַשָּׁמָיִםhash/sha/MA/yimof heavenוְכֹחוֹתve/kho/CHOTand that the powersהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimof heavenלֹאlocannotיִמָּשְׁלוּyim/ma/she/LUbe controlledוְלֹאve/LOnorיִתָּפְשׂוּyit/ta/fe/SUhandledכִּי־אִםki-imonlyעַל־פִּיal-piuponעִקְּרֵיik/ke/REthe principlesהַצֶּדֶק׃hats/tse/DEKof righteousness

    That the rights of the priesthood are inseparably connected with the powers of heaven, and that the powers of heaven cannot be controlled nor handled only upon the principles of righteousness.

    אׇמְנָםom/NAMit is trueיִנָּתְנוּyin/na/te/NUthat they may be conferredלָנוּLA/nuupon usאַךְakhbutכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenנָחֵלna/CHELwe undertakeלְכַסּוֹתle/khas/SOTto coverאֶת־חַטֹּאתֵינוּet-chat/to/TE/nuour sinsאוֹoorלְמַלֵּאle/mal/LEto gratifyגַאֲוָתֵנוּga/a/va/te/NUour prideוּשְׁאִיפָתֵנוּu/she/i/fa/te/NUour ambitionהַשָּׁוְאhash/SHAVvainאוֹoorלִמְשֹׁלlim/SHOLto exercise controlאוֹoorלִרְדּוֹתlir/DOTdominionאוֹoorלֶאֱנֹסle/e/NOScompulsionבְּנַפְשׁוֹתbe/naf/SHOTupon the soulsבְּנֵיbe/NEof the childrenאָדָםa/DAMof menבְּכׇל־מִדַּתbe/KHOL-mid/DATin any degreeעַוְלָהav/LAof unrighteousnessהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimthe heavensיִסֹּגוּyis/SO/guwithdraw themselvesרוּחַRU/achthe SpiritיְהוָהAdonaiof the Lordנֶעֶצְבָהne/ets/VAis grievedוּבְסוּרָהּu/ve/su/RAand when it is withdrawnאָמֵןa/MENAmenלִכְהֻנַּתlikh/hun/NATto the priesthoodהָאִישׁha/ISHof manהַהוּאha/HUthatאוֹoorלִרְשׁוּתוֹ׃lir/shu/TOhis authority

    That they may be conferred upon us, it is true; but when we undertake to cover our sins, or to gratify our pride, our vain ambition, or to exercise control or dominion or compulsion upon the souls of the children of men, in any degree of unrighteousness, behold, the heavens withdraw themselves; the Spirit of the Lord is grieved; and when it is withdrawn, Amen to the priesthood or the authority of that man.

38. 38

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבְּטֶרֶםbe/TE/remereיֵדַעye/DAhe is awareנֶעֱזַבne/e/ZAVhe is leftלְנַפְשׁוֹle/naf/SHOunto himselfלִבְעֹטliv/OTto kickבַּדׇּרְבֹנוֹתbad/dor/vo/NOTagainst the pricksלִרְדֹףlir/DOFto persecuteאֶת־הַקְּדוֹשִׁיםet-hak/ke/do/SHIMthe saintsוּלְהִלָּחֵםu/le/hil/la/CHEMand to fightבֵּאלֹהִים׃be/lo/HIMagainst God

    Behold, ere he is aware, he is left unto himself, to kick against the pricks, to persecute the saints, and to fight against God.

39. 39

    לָמַדְנוּla/mad/NUwe learnedמִנִּסָּיוֹןmin/nis/sa/YONby experienceמַרmarsadכִּיkithatדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhit is the natureוְיֵצֶרve/YE/tserand dispositionכִּמְעַטkim/ATof almostכׇּל־אָדָםkol-a/DAMall menהוּאhuisבְּקַבְּלָםbe/kab/be/LAMas soon as they getמְעַטme/ATa littleרְשׁוּתre/SHUTauthorityכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasיַחְשְׁבוּyach/she/VUthey supposeמַהֵרma/HERimmediatelyיָחֵלּוּya/chel/LUthey will beginלִרְדּוֹתlir/DOTto exerciseבְּעָוֶל׃be/a/VELunrighteous dominion

    We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion.

40. 40

    לָכֵןla/KHENhenceרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyהַקְּרוּאִיםhak/ke/ru/IMare calledוּמְעַטִּיםu/me/at/TIMbut fewהַנִּבְחָרִים׃han/niv/cha/RIMare chosen

    Hence many are called, but few are chosen.

    אֵיןennoכֹּחַKO/achpowerאוֹoorהַשְׁפָּעָהhash/pa/Ainfluenceיְכוֹלִיםye/kho/LIMcanאוֹoorרְאוּיִיםre/u/YIMoughtלָקוּםla/KUMto be maintainedבִּזְכוּתbiz/KHUTby virtueהַכְּהֻנָּהhak/ke/hun/NAof the priesthoodכִּי־אִםki-imonlyבְּפִתּוּיbe/fit/TUYby persuasionבְּאֶרֶךְbe/E/rekhby longאַפַּיִםap/PA/yimsufferingבְּנַחַתbe/NA/chatby gentlenessוְעַנְוָהve/an/VAand meeknessוּבְאַהֲבָהu/ve/a/ha/VAand by loveבְּלֹא־חֲנֻפָּה׃be/LO-cha/nup/PAunfeigned

    No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;

42. 42

    בְּחֶסֶדbe/CHE/sedby kindnessוּבְדַעַתu/ve/DA/atand knowledgeטְהוֹרָהte/ho/RApureאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichתַּרְחִיבtar/CHIVshall enlargeאֶת־הַנֶּפֶשׁet-han/NE/feshthe soulמְאֹדme/ODgreatlyבְּלֹאbe/LOwithoutחֹנֶףCHO/nefhypocrisyוּבְלֹאu/ve/LOand withoutרְמִיָּה׃re/miy/YAguile

    By kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile—

    לְהוֹכִיחַle/ho/KHI/achreprovingבְּעִתּוֹbe/it/TObetimesקָשׁוֹתka/SHOTwith sharpnessכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenתִּנָּשֵׂאtin/na/SEyou are moved uponבְּרוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁbe/RU/ach-hak/KO/deshby the Holy Ghostוְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןve/a/cha/RE-khenand afterwardsלְהַרְבּוֹתle/har/BOTshowing forth an increaseאַהֲבָהa/ha/VAof loveאֶל־הַמּוּכָחel-ham/mu/KHACHtoward him whom you reprovedפֶּןpenlestיַחְשׇׁבְךָyach/shov/KHAhe esteem youלְאוֹיֵבle/o/YEVto be an enemyלוֹ׃loto him

    Reproving betimes with sharpness, when moved upon by the Holy Ghost; and then showing forth afterwards an increase of love toward him whom thou hast reproved, lest he esteem thee to be his enemy;

    לְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיֵדַעye/DAhe may knowכִּיkithatאֱמוּנָתְךָe/mu/na/te/KHAyour faithfulnessחֲזָקָהcha/za/KAis strongerמֵחֶבְלֵיme/chev/LEthan the cordsמָוֶת׃ma/VETof death

    That he may know that thy faithfulness is stronger than the cords of death.

45. 45

    גַּםgamalsoמֵעֶיךָme/E/khalet your bowelsיִמָּלְאוּyim/ma/le/Ube fullחֶסֶדCHE/sedof charityאֶל־כׇּל־אָדָםel-kol-a/DAMtowards all menוְאֶל־בֵּיתve/EL-betand to the householdהָאֱמוּנָהha/e/mu/NAof faithוְיֹשֶׁרve/YO/sherand let virtueיְעַטֵּרye/at/TERgarnishמַחְשְׁבוֹתֶיךָmach/she/vo/te/KHAyour thoughtsתָּמִידta/MIDunceasinglyוְאָזve/AZthenיִגְבַּרyig/BARshall wax strongבִּטְחוֹנְךָbit/chon/KHAyour confidenceלִפְנֵיlif/NEin the presence ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוְתוֹרַתve/to/RATand the doctrineהַכְּהֻנָּהhak/ke/hun/NAof the priesthoodתִּטֹּףtit/TOFshall distilעַלaluponנַפְשְׁךָnaf/she/KHAyour soulכְּטַלke/TALas the dewsמִשָּׁמָיִם׃mish/sha/ma/YIMfrom heaven

    Let thy bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distil upon thy soul as the dews from heaven.

    The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion, and thy scepter an unchanging scepter of righteousness and truth; and thy dominion shall be an everlasting dominion, and without compulsory means it shall flow unto thee forever and ever.
